Connoisseurs may argue, remembering that the Lancer was also produced in a hatchback body, but now we will talk about the most popular versions in Russia. Do the Toyota Corolla X and the Mitshubishi Lancer X have anything in common, or is the country of production the only thing that unites the two cars beloved by the public?

Lancer X with its entire appearance is trying to show that the blood of its illustrious older brother flows in its veins - the Evolution model, a “charged” sports sedan. Aggressive body contours, sweeping lines of the hood, turning into a “mouth” clearly marked by the radiator grille, narrow beveled headlights, giving the car the appearance of a predator preparing to jump.

The tenth generation Toyota Corolla looks completely different - at first glance you get the feeling that in front of you is a family car, completely devoid of racing ambitions, intended only for safe and comfortable movement.

But here’s what’s strange - with very similar dimensions of the cars (4570 * 1760 * 1505 mm for the Lancer versus 4620 * 1775 * 1465 mm for the Corolla), the family Toyota has a noticeably lower ground clearance - 15 cm versus 16.5 cm for the Lancer. And, although 15 cm is quite enough for moving along the city roads of Russian megacities, an extra one and a half centimeters will be very useful in bad road conditions. That is, the clearance of the Lancer, which claims to be sporty, turns out to be greater than the clearance of the seemingly much calmer Corolla. Could this not affect the smoothness of the ride?

Behavior on the road

Both the Lancer X and the tenth generation Corolla are purely city cars. The suspension of both sedans is energy-intensive enough for comfortable movement on city roads, but it should be noted that the Lancer is noticeably stiffer (another reference to Evolution?), and, as a result, follows the trajectory set by the steering wheel much more clearly. At the same time, the steering wheel is, as they say, informative - the driver feels that he is in control. Unfortunately, the inevitable price for better handling is a lower level of comfort when overcoming holes and potholes. Here the Corolla gets a well-deserved “point” - if the Lancer wants to be like its charged brother in both appearance and handling (we’ll talk about the engine line a little later), then the Corolla strives to follow the concept of the flagship Camry in everything. Hence the smooth ride (of course, hardly comparable to that of the Camry), and the curves of the body lines, and, one might say, some imposingness on the road.

By and large, we could have stopped at this point, because when choosing a car, the driver is primarily guided by the main “habitat”. But it would be rude on our part not to highlight, in particular, the line of power units.

Lancer X or Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is able to compete with the Lancer 10. The car has good dynamic performance. Noise insulation is a level higher than that of Mitsubishi. The engine's reliability level corresponds to the 1.8 liter Lancer X engine, which is famous for its long service life.

On the highway it is possible to achieve 6.5 liters per “hundred”, but only on condition of very measured driving - again, hello to the old “automatic”.

Almost all tenth-generation Toyota Corollas presented today on the secondary market are equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine producing 124 horsepower. Operating a car with such clearly expressed elements typical of sports cars will definitely appeal to young people. But what’s strange is that the steering wheel is adjustable only in one plane, height. That is, it may not be possible to adjust the landing in the most convenient way.

The designers seem to have taken practicality and comfort as the basis for the Corolla's interior. But, in my opinion, it is overly conservative, perhaps even a little boring. Soft seats, the ability to adjust the steering wheel both in height and reach, the steering wheel cut along the chord at the bottom - everything seems to hint to us that the car is family-friendly and friendly.

Reviews from owners about the Lancer's interior are similar in that the interior is quite noisy, so if you are buying a car for yourself and for a long time, it would not be a bad idea to make sound insulation. There are some complaints about the trunk volume - 315 liters is enough for city driving, but when traveling long distances you will have to choose what things you need to take with you and what is better to leave at home.
