For the 2021 Toyota Hilux model year, a more rigid steel frame was developed and the suspension was heavily redesigned, with several options for adjusting the front shock absorbers. But the developers paid much more attention to the new body, in which the geometry of almost all its elements was changed.
The front part suffered especially, where new optics with garlands of LED modules appeared. The radiator grille received a more noticeable frame, and new fog lights were placed in the side air intakes. Like many other Toyota SUV models, the 2021 Hilux comes with a choice of chrome or matte black trim options, depending on the trim level.
As for the 2021 model year version, it will have an even wider radiator grille, as well as an additional option for the “pattern” of alloy wheels, which will be offered in 17- and 18-inch versions. This power plant is notable for its ability to produce 500 Newton meters of torque, which automatically puts the Hilux in the company that already includes the recently discontinued Mercedes X-Class, as well as the Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok.

The first restyled cars should arrive at showrooms in July, although pre-orders for these pickups have already been actively accepted for several months.

Japanese engineers have prepared a pickup truck for use in Russia. The car received a reinforced frame and improved underbody protection. The suspension travel has increased by 46 mm compared to the previous version.
The length of the pickup truck body is the longest in its class, but the Hilux has excellent off-road qualities. The approach and departure angles are 30 and 27 degrees, respectively. All the advantages are revealed for their intended purpose - off-road driving and cargo transportation. A powerful engine, rigid body, elastic suspension, and high ground clearance make it easy to overcome obstacles.
Restyled Toyota Hilux pickup: richer and more comfortable
At the same time as the Toyota Fortuner SUV, the related Toyota Hilux pickup truck also underwent modernization. The scope of improvements is almost the same. External signs of restyling are an almost doubled radiator grille (previously only the top versions had a similar one), different bumpers and headlights. The expensive options now have all-LED headlights (previously there were diodes only in the low beam sections) and the design of the largest, 18-inch wheels has been changed.
As before, the Hilux is offered in single-row, Extra Cab and double-row cabs. But basic two-seater pickups are not represented in all markets (mainly in Asia); they have simple equipment, a minimum of decor and stamped wheels. The interior of these “hard workers” has not changed at all.
The update affected only more expensive trim levels: they have a revised design of instrument scales, improved graphics of the color display of the trip computer (its size is the same, 4.2 inches), and the new media system has a larger screen (eight inches instead of seven), a different interface, as well as functions Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A new option is a JBL audio system.
An addition to the European range is the top version of the Invincible, although a similar pickup truck has long been presented in Asian markets under the name Toyota Hilux Rocco. Among the features are a different front design, plastic wheel arch extensions, running boards, an arch behind the cabin and an original tailgate with the name of the equipment. Toyota Hilux Invincible is offered only with a “double” or “double” cabin, and the interior is decorated with perforated leather trim and black decor.

It is stated that a pickup truck with such an engine can accelerate to 100 km/h in ten seconds.

However, the old versions of the 2.8 diesel engine with a power of 170-177 hp, as well as the younger 2.4 turbodiesel (150 hp) and naturally aspirated gasoline 2.7 (166 hp) remain in the global range. All engines (including the new one with 204 horsepower) are combined with manual transmissions, but only diesel engines have a six-speed automatic transmission for an additional fee. The choice is rear-wheel drive (such Hiluxes are especially popular in Asia) or a transmission with a rigidly connected front axle. Moreover, rear-wheel drive versions now have an electronic imitation of differential locking using the brakes.

There are changes to the chassis. The rear suspension has new springs and shock absorbers, now the Hilux should become softer on the go. But no less resilient! On the contrary, from now on the permissible gross weight of all all-wheel drive versions is 3.5 tons. For example, in Russia the pre-reform Hilux is certified with a gross vehicle weight of 2910 kg. The power steering and stabilization system have also been recalibrated.
In our small homeland, Thailand, where the model is known under the double name Toyota Hilux Revo, sales of the updated pickup trucks have already begun. The release on the European market is scheduled for July. The company has not yet specified when the cars will appear at Russian dealers.
