Before that, I constantly drove a Zhiguli and a Nissan Atlas microtruck, there were other cars, but those were one-time trips. The impression from Emina is the most positive. It runs smoothly without jerks, knocks, interior creaks or yaws on the road, the suspension is soft, but you can hear a slight tapping noise from the rear, it turned out that the silent blocks of the lower links were worn out, I ordered the original ones for 550 rubles each plus a replacement for 1600 rubles. The engine does not start badly, but it seems to me that the starter turns for a long time, perhaps there are some problems with ignition, injection, or maybe it just seems. By the way, the signaling starts faster IMHO. The automatic is quite dynamic, it rips from a stop and accelerates normally. Of course, it cannot be compared with sports and semi-sports cars, but for its weight of 1800 kg. I think it's ok. The frontal resistance, it seemed to me, is small, but the side windage is felt, but the car holds the road confidently. Still, 4WD, and the base is large. The seating position is quite high, visibility from the driver's seat is generally excellent, but when I sat behind the wheel for the first time, I got the feeling that I was sitting in the back seat, because... the windshield extends far forward. The dimensions feel bad at first, you need to get used to it, the car is big, but the side mirrors help out, by the way, the mirrors have a spherical shape, i.e. removed, so you also need to get used to what you see in the mirror with a real distance. There is a parking mirror at the back, but the rear corners are not visible through it because... they are rounded, there were also problems with the front clearance, you need to get used to it. You can't see where the hood ends. But the problem can be solved - you can install a large antenna. What’s also not very cool is the narrow sun visors. They could have made it wider or double. I saw double shields on the Honda Prelude. Regarding the stove: there are enough air ducts to provide airflow to the legs, face, windshield and side windows. My Emine has only one stove, to be honest, at first I was afraid that it would be cold for the passengers in the cabin, but these are just fears, in fact, the back is the same as the front, despite the fact that the air back is also supplied through special air ducts passing through the front doors, I didn't notice them right away. There are no windshields on the side front windows, which is not essential, but it would still be necessary to install them. The front hatch opens manually, creating a small gap through which air is drawn out of the cabin at speed. The second hatch above the cabin has an electric motor for opening and closing. Both hatches are equipped with sun curtains. Hatches are a very convenient thing and they will not be superfluous. Power steering is, IMHO, not a luxury, but a necessity. I rotate the wheels with one finger, while the car is very obedient and, unlike the worm-roller steering of a Lada, the impact transmitted from the wheels to the steering wheel is much easier to control and the steering wheel does not hit your hands. The Nissan Atlas also has power steering, no problems there. The rear axle, springs and shock absorbers are separate, the front has independent suspension, struts. Although the engine is located under the front seats, due to the fact that it is tilted at an angle of 75 degrees. Doesn’t protrude much into the cabin, i.e. You can go back and vice versa without getting out of the car. For example, on a Mazda Bongo Friendly, to do this, you will need to lift your legs high up, but on NOAH, the floor is generally flat, because engine under their hood. By the way, the 2TZ’s timing belt is not a belt, but a chain. The salon has electric. a socket in the form of a cigarette lighter socket, cup holders, and a folding armrest on the middle seat with recesses for a glass or jar. The windows are factory tinted with UV protection and look mirror-like from the outside. The gas tank flap opens from the cabin, when the gas tank is open, and it is located behind the sliding door of the passenger compartment, there is a lock so that the passenger compartment door does not accidentally open and the pistol in the gas tank is not removed. The back door opens easily, but in the cold the locks do not lock well, so you have to slam it harder. Above the door there is a spoiler with an additional brake light and a parking mirror. There is an electric heater and a “broom” on the rear window. The interior windows open like the front hatch, forming a small gap at the rear; they do not go down, only the front windows roll down. Central locking also adds certain conveniences, i.e. no need to run around the car to open or close the doors. The mirrors are folding, the front glass is washed directly from the brushes, i.e. There are nozzles in the brushes themselves, which creates some problems when replacing brushes, and on “winter” and “summer” brushes the fastening of the washer nozzles is different (!). The handbrake lever is located on the right (!) between the driver's seat and the door. It’s very inconvenient for me, my hand doesn’t fit well and when I get out of the car the handle rests on my leg. Other control levers and buttons are located quite conveniently and accessible. In my opinion, the huge front panel is good, but it’s not convenient to wipe off dust (short arms

), while it is practically not used at all, they could also make a glove compartment in it, there is enough space. In the MMC RVR there is such a glove compartment on the front panel at the top. The interior seats can be turned to face each other. If desired or necessary, the seats in the cabin, including the front ones, can be folded out to create an excellent bed more than 2 meters long and about 1.5 meters wide. The bed is naturally not completely flat, i.e. It is advisable to ditch the mattress, but two adults and one child can easily sleep on it. In the cabin there is a glove compartment for a jack and a balloon, which is not entirely convenient, because... To get to it you need to kick all passengers from the middle row of seats out of the car. The spare wheel hangs outside under the trunk; by the way, instead of a “banana”, a standard wheel easily fits in. One winter there was a blizzard, the roads were swept, out of habit of driving a rear-wheel drive car, I accelerated before the shift, but when the car entered the loose snow, it practically didn’t throw it anywhere, the wheels didn’t dig in, it just kept going. The downside is the rather low ground clearance of 160mm (on the new one) with a wheelbase of 2860mm, i.e. You won’t run into too much on the ruts and over the hillocks. After all, it’s a car for afalta, it’s not an SUV. Hanging under the belly is the engine, gearbox, transfer case, plastic protection, and a gas tank on the left. So be careful on the track, you might accidentally knock something over. We went outdoors in winter; the car overcame snowdrifts on virgin soil perfectly, creating a track for other cars. I didn’t have the chance to compete with jeeps in cross-country ability, but I don’t think that the advantage would be on my side. Under the hood are all the tanks, battery, heater, and air filter. Dipsticks for the engine and automatic transmission under the front passenger seat. There is also a diagnostic connector for removing codes for testing engines, automatic transmissions, and ABS. Standard music: AM/FM, tape recorder, CD, 4 speakers. One of the serious disadvantages is the inaccessibility of the engine, i.e. in order to get to it (for example, check, change spark plugs), you need to remove the driver’s seat completely, and you also need to unhook the gas tank cable and do not forget about the signal connector for an unfastened seat belt, which is located under the seat. The passenger seat reclines, then you need to remove the carpet covering the hatch, for which you need to unscrew the trim on the sills, remove the glove box that is on the floor, the rest for the driver's left foot, then unscrew the hatch cover that covers the engine compartment and when all this is done you will see what again, you can’t really get anywhere, but you can change the spark plugs, just to “see” them you still need to unscrew 3 screws and remove the black plastic cover covering the spark plug wells and wires, and to unscrew the spark plug of the 4th cylinder you need to remove the fastenings of the handbrake handle . The distributor is also difficult to reach, but you can do everything by touch. Replacing the oil filter, oils in the engine, axles, and transfer case is quite simple and accessible, nothing interferes, you just need a pit or overpass. Replacing Dexron in an automatic transmission using the drain and fill method was done three times at a time, because when drained, 2.6 liters are poured through the plug in the pan. with an automatic transmission volume of almost 6 liters. I filled it up, drove for 200-300 meters, drained and filled up again, drove again for 200-300 meters, drained and filled up, then drove for 10 kilometers and brought the level back to normal while it was hot. I bought 9 liters, but 8 was enough. Dexron is poured through the dipstick. Replacing dexron in the power steering is even simpler: you need to remove the supply line tube (upper, thin) from the tank, drain the old fluid from the tank, plug the hole in the tank with a plug, then fill in the new one. Place a container under the removed tube and start the engine for 1-2 seconds. in this case, the pump will expel the old fluid. In this case, it is necessary to add dexron to the tank and so on until clean water comes out of the drain tube. Then assemble everything and bleed the system by turning the steering wheel with the engine running from the extreme left position to the extreme right, delaying in each position for 2-3 seconds. Make sure there is no foaming and/or bubbles in the tank. Then bring the level to normal. When it warmed up and turned on the air conditioning, the cabin soon smelled of damp mold. It turned out that the air conditioner radiators (I have two of them, one in the cabin under the ceiling, the other under the hood) were very clogged with dust, I had to clean them. At the same time, I put old nylon tights over the air intake so that less dust would get into the cabin, and I put a mosquito net on the radiator. It protects well from poplar fluff and insects. When traveling to the sea (about 2000 km), the car’s behavior was impeccable. The large base gives excellent stability on the road. Overtaking, thanks to excellent dynamics and a higher driver's seating position, has become easier, i.e. there is no need to rev the engine for a long time and tediously, picking up speed, we sit higher - we see further. At first there were some inconveniences when overtaking due to the right-hand drive, but after about 200-300 km. I got used to it and didn’t feel any discomfort. We drove in the morning, there was fog on the road in places and the windows fogged up from the inside. Everything was solved simply: turn on the air conditioning for a few seconds and the windows are perfectly clean. During the entire trip, only two glitches occurred: the sound of the tape recorder disappeared - it was cured by distorting the connectors on it, and the second thing was that the warm-up disappeared during startup - it was cured by itself, apparently there was also something in the wiring or connectors. In all other respects it’s perfect. While driving, the children “walked” around the cabin, slept at full height, the windows were curtained from the sun, and in general they felt very comfortable. Cruising speed is 100-120 km/h. I tried harder not to accelerate because the car was full of children, and my wife constantly pulled me back, although when overtaking I easily reached 140-150. The only thing I didn't like was the small ground clearance. Everything was fine along the highway, but when we pulled onto the gravel road leading to the bay, I hit the pebbles twice, although with protection, and the pebbles there were the size of a child’s head, and even with sharp edges. I had to, where I had almost flown by on a Zhiguli before, crawl carefully on Emina, constantly trying to guide her so that protruding stones did not get under her belly, i.e. either wheel on them or go around them. From all that has been said above, I would like to conclude: a modern, comfortable, family car, for driving on fairly good roads, at the same time, moderate off-road conditions are not an obstacle for it, but still, it is not a jeep. I won’t say anything about repairs, since I haven’t done anything significant with it yet, but in terms of fuel consumption and ever-increasing gasoline prices, it’s a bit expensive, although they say you can install gas equipment and it will be cheaper. DESCRIPTION OF MACHINE EQUIPMENT:

What gasoline to fill in Toyota Estima 3rd generation

For factory Estima body engines (3rd generation) on which knock sensors have not previously been adjusted, it is recommended to use AI-95 gasoline with an octane rating of 95 to obtain the calculated specific engine power.

The ignition timing of the engine also allows you to drive on the minimum permissible gasoline AI-92, there will be no harm.

What happens if you fill with high-actane gasoline (AI-98/100)?

The engine of this Toyota model does not require high-octane gasoline. Such fuel will burn more calmly and worse in it, often ignoring the spark of the candle. In this case, the combustible mixture, not having time to burn during the power stroke, continues to burn with the exhaust valves open. Such processes at high operating temperatures and prolonged exposure lead to burnout of valves and exhaust seats. Engine performance indicators deteriorate, gasoline consumption increases, and wear on the piston group increases more than usual.

What happens if you mix 95 and 92 gasoline in a tank?

If you intentionally or mistakenly pour 95 and 92 gasoline together into an Estima tank, you will get a mixture with an average octane number, but not for long. At first they will be mixed in the tank; in theory, there is no threat to the engine from such fuel. Further, bypassing diffusion due to different densities of substances, gasoline with a lower octane will end up at the bottom, and with a higher octane at the top. As a result, the substance in its entirety will not work; first the fuel pump will pump worse gasoline, and then better.

About consumption on the current mileage

The average age of a car in the Estima body (3rd generation) is 11 years. The mileage for the model released in 2011 is already about 260,000 km. Even taking into account the maintenance that has been completed according to the regulations, such cars are now experiencing a noticeable increase in gasoline consumption, in comparison with the capabilities of these models in 2007. The operating power of the engine of those years was initially designed for standard compression, which was already broken. The factory transmission also becomes more demanding on fuel consumption.
We calculated real fuel consumption in 2021 for such cars, taking into account mileage under normal operating and maintenance conditions. Fuel consumption now ranges from 8.3 to 16.5 liters per 100 km, for the 3rd generation Estima modifications produced from 2007 to 2014 with a minimum power gasoline engine.

Other generations of Toyota Estima

How to reduce gasoline consumption

To start saving fuel, you need to understand the reasons for its increased consumption. The table contains practical tips and recommendations obtained from open sources.

ConsumptionCauseDescription and Solution
&#9660 50%Using HBOThe traditional method of saving fuel consumption is to switch the car to run on gas. Such re-equipment will significantly reduce fuel costs. At the same time, the noise level will noticeably decrease, the exhaust will be cleaner, and the engine will start to run much smoother.
&#9660 15%CoastingA situation when a car rolls by itself after acceleration or down a hill. When driving in gear by inertia, gasoline is consumed in minimal quantities to maintain engine idle speed. In this case, the driver just needs to release the gas pedal without turning off the gear; in this case, the fuel supply is completely stopped and the car moves by inertia. In this case, there is no need to turn off the engine, because starting the engine too often will only lead to excess consumption and additional wear on the starter and battery.
&#9660 10%Movement behind the truckNot a bad way to save gas when driving on the highway. Driving behind large cars at a distance of 3-5 meters helps the car not experience air resistance, thereby significantly reducing gasoline consumption. In this case, you will have to adapt to the speed of the truck; it is important to move smoothly, which also has a positive effect on consumption.
&#9660 10%Cruise controlUsing cruise control saves fuel when driving over long distances. The car will move smoothly, without jerking on the gas pedal.
&#9660 10%Extra weightWhy carry something unnecessary in the trunk. Excess weight always leads to increased gas mileage. By cleaning the bins in your car, you can save up to 10 percent of fuel.
&#9660 5%Lightweight wheelsUsing lightweight wheels with rims made of durable and lightweight forging can achieve savings in fuel consumption.
&#9660 5%Narrow tire treadTire tread width affects fuel consumption. The narrower the tread, the lower the gas mileage.
&#9660 1%Smooth startSmooth start of movement. You need to start moving from a place calmly and confidently, avoiding sudden acceleration, since rapid acceleration will definitely increase fuel consumption.
&#9660 1%Parking in the garageWarming up a car in cold weather is not easy, and while it is warming up, precious gasoline is burning. A heated garage solves this problem, especially noticeably in winter.
&#9650 1%1 cm disc radiusDriving on wheels with a larger radius increases consumption, for example: R19 instead of R17. The increase occurs in increments of 1 cm of radius + 1% to the flow rate.
&#9650 1%Equipment in the cabinThe use of electronic equipment inside the car while it is moving. Any attachments: radio, video recorder, navigator, chargers in the cigarette lighter - all this increases the load on the generator and increases fuel consumption.
&#9650 1%dipped headlightsDriving a car with the headlights on low beam.
&#9650 5%High beam headlightsVehicle movement with high beam headlights on. Do not use high beam headlights unless necessary, and keep an eye on the light switch during daytime.
&#9650 5%Long stopRunning the engine for more than 5 minutes after stopping increases gasoline consumption.
&#9650 5%Antifreeze temperatureCoolant temperature below design increases flow rate. Monitor the quality of the antifreeze poured in and its consumption.
&#9650 5%Camber anglesUnadjusted wheel alignment during long-term use. Periodically call in for service and adjust the wheel alignment by pulling the rods and ends. Monitor tire wear; uneven wear may indicate poor tuning. A wobble in the steering wheel at high speed may also indicate this.
&#9650 5%HeadwindDriving in windy weather when driving against a headwind.
&#9650 5%Low tire pressureDriving the vehicle with low tire pressure. (for every 0.5 kg/cm2.). Monitor the recommended tire pressure on the front and rear tires of your vehicle. Inflate the wheels with a pump in a timely manner.
&#9650 5%Non-seasonal tiresDriving a car with tires that are out of season. If a car is shod with winter tires in May-June, then its gluttony will be many times higher than if the driver changed it to summer tires in time.
&#9650 10%100 kg loadEvery 100 kg of cargo placed in the body or trailer of a vehicle increases consumption by 10%. Do not carry excess cargo unless necessary.
&#9650 10%Using automatic transmissionEstima models (3rd generation) with automatic transmission require more fuel than those with manual transmission. In addition to the operation of the box itself, the consumption is also increased by malfunctions associated with it. For example, when you frequently travel in a lower gear, when the transmission malfunctions and does not switch to a higher gear, where possible.
&#9650 10%Using the air conditionerConsumption increases significantly when using air conditioning in the cabin while the car is moving.
&#9650 10%Bad rollOvertightened wheel hub bearings. When replacing wheel bearings, the main thing is not to overtighten them after installing them on the hubs. It is better to have it replaced at a good service center where I know how hard the fasteners need to be tightened.
&#9650 10%Spark plug gapIncorrectly set spark plug gaps, as well as the use of old spark plugs. After 5-7000 kilometers, the previously set gap between the spark plug electrodes will increase (by 0.1mm). As a result, if you do not change the spark plugs in a timely manner or do not check the spark plug gap, this will lead to failure of the ignition system and increase fuel consumption.
&#9650 10%Clutch problemsWorn clutch or poorly functioning clutch mechanism in your car. Have the clutch checked, adjusted or replaced at a service center.
&#9650 10%Bad air filterFailure to promptly replace the air filter or an unsuitable filter increases gasoline consumption.
&#9650 15%Driving on a cold engineStarting to drive a car with a cold engine. Always warm up the engine, even in the warm summer season.
&#9650 25%TrailerDriving with an empty trailer.

Reviews from Toyota Estima owners

Toyota Estima, 1990

A good family car. After switching to gas, the costs for each refueling decreased significantly, so I began to ride more and covered 76,000 km in a year and a half. The impression when driving outside the city is like on a ship, a long wheelbase combined with all-wheel drive and a large weight (1900 kg). In the city, the Toyota Estima is a little slow when accelerating, due to the low engine power combined with the automatic transmission, the brakes are excellent, it’s good that there is no ABS. As a driver, I get positive emotions when driving, but there is some disappointment when I look at the upholstery of the seats and interior of the Toyota Estima. The driver's seating position is very high, like in a jeep, and the cross-country ability is the same, it's nice to ride through the forest for mushrooms, or through the mud to go fishing. The salon is huge and can fit a lot of necessary things. And also - warm in winter and cool in summer.

Advantages

: Great family car.

Flaws

: “links” regularly fail.

Toyota Estima, 1992

The car is just super. A real road cruiser. Cross-country ability is beyond praise. I passed without slipping where the Nivas floundered for an hour. Huge salon, capacity is simply class. I practically don’t repair the car and don’t tinker where it’s not necessary, but I check everything periodically, especially after hard trips. Only periodic maintenance and oil changes (I do everything myself). So far, in the five years of operation, Toyota Estima has not pulled any tricks. Maybe this is because I love my car, I take care of it and it pays me back in kind. All cars have disadvantages. It’s just that the advantages of Toyota Estima make you not notice its shortcomings. I am a supporter of minivans and I need just such a car. I recently wanted to exchange my Toyota Estima for a newer one, but I didn’t. My Toyota Estima is simply beautiful, in excellent condition, the body shape is still relevant today, making passersby turn their heads. So why spend bad money? Moreover, I “twisted” the car with everything I could: xenon, video cameras, TV, DVD, etc.

Generation 1 (1990-2000)

It is almost impossible to determine the exact cause at home; you have to contact a special service, which is sometimes located far from the driver’s place of residence. Either it's a matter of lambda, or now we've added more gasoline until it's full, at that gas station the arrow was at the top mark, at this gas station it was above the mark, under the cap, well, in general, something like this, we measure 92 under the same conditions, I'll try not to drown The gasoline froze again at 92 gasoline, we drive only in the city, warming up 6 km of the journey, warming up 6 km, drove back 212 km, and filled up 58 liters 27 liters per 100 km Something seems to be a bit too much, no.

"Toyota-Estima-Hybrid": technical characteristics, vehicle equipment and owner reviews

The concept of environmentally friendly cars has been exciting the minds of the automotive community for many years now, gaining momentum from time to time due to the emergence of real developments in this direction. The Japanese manufacturer Toyota is one of the leaders in the development of “green” cars, offering not only exclusive high-tech electric cars, but also quite practical models for commercial and family use. An example of this is the Toyota Estima Hybrid modification, a review of which is presented below. The version was born in 2006, becoming one of the first minivans in its class with a mixed fuel supply.

Real fuel consumption of Toyota Avensis, based on owner reviews

More on the topic Reduce fuel consumption for Toyota Estima Lada 2101, Toyota Gaia Mitsubishi Spice Star, Hafi Brio, Opel Commodore Hyundai Tucson, Mercedes w123 Honda Odyssey, Suzuki Vitara. It makes no sense to separately highlight the second generation Restyle and consider it in detail in this material, since after the update the Avensis engines remained unchanged, and the consumption also did not change.

General information about the model

The hybrid version of Estima is radically different from the standard version of the model. Moreover, in addition to internal processing of the power unit, the developers improved optional systems, made adjustments to the exterior and, due to new mechanics, transformed the driving properties of the car. But the main changes, of course, affected the engine. Toyota Estima Hybrid with a combined power plant has become more economical and productive. And this despite the fact that the company for a long time did not dare to convert minibuses to electric traction. The Estima minivan partly continued the concept of changes to the Prius subcompact, but in a more global technological version. And if Toyota began the first transformation of conventional ICE models into a hybrid form in the early years of the 2000s, then the formation of Estima lasted several more years after its release in 2006. Moreover, even today designers do not abandon the minibus , periodically making minor adjustments to it.

Customer reviews:. Toyota Hilux

The perfection of the charge is largely a capacity of 3-5 liters, two durite things or buy a new one and the appropriate diameter, as well as starting the engine in winter. Today it is a classic frame SUV that competes in the market with Land Rover Discovery, Nissan Patrol, Jeep Wrangler, Mitsubishi Pajero, Honda Pilot and Mazda CX9.

Specifications

To begin with, it is worth noting that even against the backdrop of competitive hybrid modifications, this option looks quite attractive. The lack of sufficient power and “synthetic” interaction with controls are well-known shortcomings of the first “green” cars, but this does not apply to the Toyota-Estima-Hybrid modification, the technical characteristics of which can be presented as follows:

  • Length – 480 cm.
  • Width – 180 cm.
  • Height – 175 cm.
  • Wheelbase – 295 cm.
  • Machine weight – 2040 kg.
  • Drive – 4 wheels.
  • The main power plant is a 2.4 liter petrol unit.
  • Number of cylinders – 4.
  • Engine power – 150 hp. With.
  • ICE frequency – 4000 rpm.
  • Front electric motor – 143 hp unit. With.
  • The rear electric motor is a 68 hp unit. s., operating on alternating current.
  • The general frequency range of the electric motor is from 0 to 5120 rpm.

This has been the classic layout of the Japanese minivan since 2006, but today other configurations are offered, including with a diesel engine. Opinions regarding the use of internal combustion engines on heavy fuel differ, but there are significant positive comments. For example, many point to the traction compensation of low-power electrical installations that the Toyota Estima Hybrid is equipped with. Owner reviews initially criticized the developers for compiling a modest power plant with a traditional high-torque 150 hp engine. With. But as the design improved, it became obvious that hybridization also brought many significant advantages to the model. First, it’s worth taking a closer look at the internal structure of this modification.

Interior and layout: ride package

Toyota Estima 3. 0 4WD / Toyota Estima, 5 door minivan, 220 l. s, 4 automatic transmission, 2000 - 2003 - increased fuel consumption This is an in-line four-cylinder engine, which, according to the passport data, consumed about 7 liters of gasoline per hundred, in reality the figures were a couple of liters more. I have now driven 100 km in the city, and the consumption of 22 liters began to warm up the car more when the temperature needle stood between the marks - the middle one in the middle and the bottom one - between them.
About engines for Toyota Estima Such performance will allow you to fully load the Toyota Estima on long journeys without feeling any discomfort when driving the hybrid, because there will be no loss of traction. The difference between a diesel engine and a gasoline engine is that in the first case the fuel spontaneously ignites when supplied to a cylinder with pre-compressed air.

Features of the power plant

The driving platform consists of one gasoline and two electric motors. As already noted, electric motors are located in the front and rear, which partly contributed to the transfer of the minibus to all-wheel drive. But the main advantages of the new power plant lie in the integration of a fundamentally new mixed traction system, one of the configurations of which was originally implemented in the restyled version of the Toyota Estima Hybrid minivan. Photos of the front power units, by the way, are presented below.

So what is a mixed traction conversion? Fundamental changes affected the chassis of the car. Thus, if the first versions of the hybrid were equipped with the THS-C system, which ensured the transmission of force to the front wheels by connecting a continuously variable variator, classic for Japanese minibuses, then in the new versions, the Toyota-Estima-Hybrid received the THS-II traction transmission mechanism, which was previously provided Prius model. As a result, the combination of all-wheel drive and a reduction gearbox under electronic control made it possible to optimize the interaction between the driver, the power plant and the chassis components. It is this solution that eliminates the feeling of “synthetic” control.

The THS-II system cannot be called unique, since it has already been used in various hybrid cars, but in Estima, thanks to the highly efficient 2.4-liter engine, the coefficient of thermal expansion of the gasoline mixture was increased. This made it possible, on the one hand, to maintain sensitivity in control, and on the other, to provide a power potential of 150 hp. With. for the front wheels, and 68 liters. With. - for the rear ones. How much such performance is, in principle, appropriate in a small minivan depends on the purpose of its use.

Switch to gas and start saving. Chassis

In the Estim, as in the Prius, there is regenerative braking, which, when decelerating, allows you to store energy in the battery, rather than heat the environment with the brake pads, like any other cars. So, evaluating the new model of the Estima hybrid minivan and comparing it with the previous model of the same name, we can conclude that the goal proclaimed by the authors of the Estima Hybrid project to get a completely new car at the end was achieved.

Fuel consumption

According to official data, one liter of gasoline should be enough for 20 km. This is a very good indicator for a minibus with a combined power plant, but in practice the result may not be so attractive - the gluttony of the main unit will depend on the characteristics of the specific fuel mixture and on the driving style of the car owner. However, on public roads, many owners also report higher efficiency of the Toyota-Estima-Hybrid modification. Fuel consumption in conditions of high-quality coverage can be 15 km/l. The data is recorded by an on-board computer directly connected to the THS-II system. And again, do not forget that we are talking about a minibus weighing about 2 tons. A serious increase in fuel consumption is observed only during high-speed maneuvers, where, by the way, the electrified version shows higher dynamics than the standard petrol Estima with a 3.5-liter engine

Restyling of the third generation Toyota Estima • Ride package

Main pros and cons of Toyota Estima III | Car breakdowns The interior has not undergone any visible changes at all, except that the infotainment system has undergone modernization, and the basic version now has options that were not there before: heated steering wheel and seats. In 2006, the last, third generation of Toyota Estima appeared, which is still produced today in an 8-seater body with modern, economical engines.
  • A-98 and A-95 will most likely fit into the required 5 liters per hundred.
  • A-92 will need at least 5.5 liters. On a flat highway at a speed of 80-90 km per hour, you can achieve a consumption of 4 liters per 100 km.
  • When driving uphill and when the minivan is fully loaded, gasoline consumption increases to 6 liters, but this figure is much more efficient than that of the non-hybrid version with a 3.5 liter engine. The electric installation saves fuel by 20%.

Toyota Estima Lucida 1st generation • Gas mixes easily with air and fills the cylinders more evenly with a homogeneous mixture, so the engine runs smoother and quieter.

Interior support

At the very first comparisons of the Estima hybrid version with the traditional gasoline version, the owners noted the presence of a large central console, which was absent in versions with a single internal combustion engine. But there is nothing surprising in this, since it is in this part from below that a massive battery emerges, which provides the electrical traction of the machine. How inconvenient is this solution? The new design slightly limited the free space of the Toyota Estima Hybrid modification, and the dashboard turned out to be extremely compact for a minibus, but at the same time very ergonomic and functional. In addition, the rear part of the cabin has generally retained free space, and this is where the batteries of electric cars are most often located. In this case, it is also present in the feed, but in the most optimized, low-power version.

Appearance

The exterior of the model began to undergo radical changes since 2016, when pronounced “egg-shaped” features of the body appeared. The classic hybrid version is for the most part conservative in its design and design. From time to time, the developers made only cosmetic changes - for example, adjusting the color of the headlights, bumper installation configurations and the shape of the taillights. Otherwise, the Toyota Estima Hybrid looks quite simple, and even boring. As for the new versions, restylings from 2021 made the model more aggressive and brutal. Even small design shades seriously changed the impression of the exterior - this, for example, concerns narrowed LED lights, the design of the air intake and running lights. At the same time, the manufacturer did not dare to radically revise the seven- and eight-seat configurations, leaving the functionality of the car at the same level.

How does the Toyota-Estima-Hybrid behave on the road?

You may not feel noticeable changes in handling at first - especially if the previous car was a traditional gasoline minivan. Only an increase in traction and speed will be immediately noticeable. The car's dynamics are not only enhanced, but also made more flexible and more effectively controlled by the driver thanks to the voltage regulator.

As for switching from internal combustion engines to electric motors, it is still not recommended to abuse this transition. The new installation is comfortable to use and safe thanks to the control electronics, but you should remember that the active battery discharges quickly. On the other hand, for short distances only electric motors of the Toyota Estima Hybrid version can be used. Engine characteristics in terms of fuel consumption with the updated Aeras Smart system can be increased to 15-18 km/l, and the operation of one internal combustion engine eliminates all the advantages of an unusual car.

But this all applies to driving in normal urban conditions, but how does the hybrid Estima perform off-road? Despite all-wheel drive, effectively controlled traction and a powerful 150-liter engine in the base, you shouldn’t count on cross-country ability. This is hampered by the not-so-successful geometric layout of the pan and sills. Having lost sight of even a small bump, you can easily hit the bottom with the most dire consequences.

Main weaknesses and malfunctions of Toyota Estima III (restyling)

The Japanese began producing the 3rd generation Toyota Estima back in 2006. But the manufacturers did not stop there and, although they did not create a new series, they decided to restyling the current model. They consider this car more successful.

Technical features of the new car

In principle, the car has not changed much, although some features have acquired a certain sharpness of the body, while maintaining its teardrop-shaped shape, expressing the individuality of the minivan. The main changes affected the interior of the cabin: more comfortable upholstery materials and its color were used. All-wheel drive or front-wheel drive, as well as the “Aeras” version with an aerodynamic body kit. Average fuel consumption in urban areas is 8-10 l./100 km, outside the city 9-12 l./100 km.

With a CVT transmission, cars differ from each other only in engine power, which in this case is 150 hp.

When purchasing such a “tank”, it is necessary to take into account both the strengths and weaknesses of the Toyota Estima from 2008.

Where and how to buy

It is advisable to buy a new car, directly from the manufacturer: there is more confidence in the quality. But not every client has the opportunity to travel to Japan. In addition, the customs fee for the new “swallow” is much higher. Therefore, it makes sense to go to a car auction, laying out your requirements and wishes.

Advice! Before registering at an auction, you should find a good, reliable intermediary. To do this, look at reviews on websites and talk to knowledgeable people. There is no need to rush at the first person you come across.

Having chosen a dealer, contact him and tell him what kind of minivan you want to purchase. Describe the car in detail, down to the color of the trim. This will make it possible to choose for you a “mobile home” of the required quality and price. In this case, all options will be taken into account, positive and negative qualities, of which there are many even in a new car.

Main advantages of Estima

Estima hybr >

  1. Powerful exterior design that combines beauty, style and sporty elements. The sliding doors are equipped with an electric drive and can be closed by pressing a button on the key fob. You can also open them with a key fob or by touching the door handle (provided you have a smart key with you). There is a Synergy Drive hybrid drive, a computer parallel and conventional parking system;
  2. Equal dynamics for loaded and empty vehicles. Takes confident acceleration on any climb. Where other cars slow down, Toyota comes out easily.
  3. For minivans, fuel consumption is relatively low. At a normal speed of 80 - 100 km/h, it “eats” 7 - 10 liters of fuel in the city; outside the city limits - up to 12 liters.
  4. In winter, it starts easily at fairly low temperatures. It does not slip on the road while driving.
  5. High rise. It feels good when driving both on the highway and on dirt roads.
  6. Richly equipped warm interior. Everything passengers need is available: soft velor upholstery, 3-zone climate, Bluetooth, TV, 3 cameras, 3 interior lighting options, and other bells and whistles.
  7. The two rear rows of seats recline. Second row with suspension, folding leg cushions. The 3rd row is automatic; if necessary, it folds into the floor, thereby forming an additional trunk. If you remove both rear rows at once, you get a trunk about 3 m long.

These are not all the advantages of Estima, and that’s good. The more comfortable the car, the more advanced it is, the more pleasant it is for the driver to sit behind the wheel.

Equipment

Currently, the manufacturer offers several variations of the Aeras configuration, the most popular of which is the 2.4 Aeras 4WD. In other words, a car with a 2.4 liter gasoline engine and two electric motors with a total power of more than 200 hp. With. In the minimal content of the so-called mini-update, the owner receives standard equipment with the Safety Sense C ride control system. Experienced hydride drivers immediately recommend turning to the advanced TSS-P complex, which provides the function of following the car in front - Toyota radar cruise control -Estima-Hybrid.” The Aeras Premium package also includes adaptive shock absorbers with the ability to adjust suspension stiffness, which significantly improves steering control. If desired, the electric drive control automation can also be upgraded using the new VDIM system. With such equipment, the driver overcomes difficult road surfaces more confidently, easily “handling” surface imperfections.

Positive feedback from owners

The car as a whole received more flattering reviews, which noted a variety of technical and operational aspects. If we start with the main thing, with the power plant, then first of all we note the efficiency of the units. As already mentioned, in calm city driving conditions you can count on 15-20 km/l, which is very good considering the high power of the Toyota Estima Hybrid minibus. Reviews even talk about 10-12 km/h with 92 gasoline. But, again, a lot depends on the driving style.

In terms of driving comfort, there are no complaints either. Both handling and physical ergonomics inside the cabin are at the highest level. The layout of the seats and the distribution of equipment, of course, are implemented in cramped conditions, but thanks to a solid engineering and design base, the developers were still able to achieve comfort for passengers without loss of functionality. With all the configuration changes, the Toyota Estima Hybrid retained its flexibility in terms of transforming the internal space, which primarily concerns the seats.

Also included in the list of advantages is the proprietary reliability of the components and the design itself. The Japanese have been thinking through the technical base of Estima in detail since the 90s and today, along with a durable frame and high-strength parts, they also offer modern active safety systems with electronic control.

Choosing a route. Toyota auris

Fuel consumption of Toyota RAV 4, reviews from owners I contacted AGTS and now I’m happy, everything is very convenient, savings can already be felt, although the equipment itself has not yet paid for itself, but I think that with my mileage, this time is not too far off. If you buy a vehicle based on the volume of fuel it consumes, then models that run on diesel fuel will be more economical.
Toyota Hilux 2.4, 2.5, 3.0 diesel and gasoline - fuel consumption per 100 km The technical solution of the proposed device is exposure to high temperature, the enclosing structures of the firebox are made of two layers with filling at gas stations in May and autumn, a separate reason for gasoline addiction. It turned out to be a completely redesigned car, built on a new platform using engines with previously unprecedented efficiency and throttle response.
  • a modification of the car with a 4.5 cubic meter internal combustion engine reaches a speed of up to 215 kilometers;
  • In the Land Cruiser 200, the consumption of gasoline or diesel varies depending on many factors, the main one of which is the terrain. For example, the lowest consumption will be when driving on the highway;
  • reliable security system;
  • stylish appearance and high-quality interior;
  • the car is designed to transport seven people and has a large trunk;
  • large dimensions.

Negative reviews from owners

Throughout its history, the Estima model has never been able to become a leader in the sales ratings of the Japanese manufacturer. This is partly due to belonging to a not-so-popular class of minivans, but even the hybridization of the car with all the positive accents could not seriously change the situation. What turns potential owners of the Toyota-Estima-Hybrid away? Reviews note that problems are still hidden in the basic design parameters, which do not allow the car to reveal its capabilities as a commercial vehicle. As a result, intermediate positioning between a family car and a truck for business.

If we talk about the shortcomings of the new power plant, then in addition to the intrusion of batteries into the cabin through the console, some owners note a decrease in the performance of the power element. There are different opinions on this matter, but even experts emphasize that a Japanese battery can “fade” due to prolonged downtime or thermal effects as a result of welding work near the power unit.
