Japanese manufacturers have staked out a place among ultra-reliable cars. Toyota and Mitsubishi are brands that have a lot in common, although there are few Mitsubishi models on the Russian market. But the reason for this is not the quality of the cars, but the supply of exclusively crossovers and SUVs to the region. There are many more Toyota models, they come to us at affordable prices, which means more people buy them. So which car is better - Toyota or Mitsubishi?
Which is better: Toyota Rav 4 2021 or Mitsubishi Outlander 2021 - comparison of models
Japanese cars are very popular in Russia.
Mitsubishi and Toyota are the leaders among Japanese manufacturers. These brands are often compared, trying to figure out which is better: Mitsubishi or Toyota. In fact, the cars of these manufacturers are fundamentally different, despite frequent comparisons. At the same time, Mitsubishi has many advantages over the second Japanese manufacturer. It’s better to see once than to hear a hundred times, so the official Mitsubishi dealer in Krasnoyarsk invites you to test drive the car you like. This way you can appreciate all the advantages of one of the best automakers of our time.
National idea
It seems that all Japanese manufacturers operate according to the same principles: high reliability, inexpensive materials, average price. With rare exceptions, the heroes of this article are guided by these same ideas. The average cost of a Mitsubishi is less, but due to the relative rarity of the cars, the cost of servicing and parts is higher, which means there is parity.
To compare similar brands, the most non-standard and creative models were chosen - Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and Toyota C-HR. 2 coupe-crossovers that stand out against the background of similar and somewhat boring sedans and SUVs.
The exterior of the models deserves all praise. The Eclipse looks more solid and mature, while the C-HR looks more like a cartoon character about Transformers. However, this does not affect the overall impression at all - in a stream of cars, Toyota attracts attention, and the same applies to its competitor. Handling is also excellent, both models behave obediently, hold their trajectory and respond at the first call of the steering wheel. But that's where the similarities end.
Toyota
The production is carried out by the popular automobile concern Toyota Motor Corporation. The machines are assembled in Japan, Turkey, England, France, and Russia. Toyota offers a large selection of different car brands. The bodywork of the cars can be made in hatchback, station wagon, or sedan styles. Toyota offers the following types of crossovers: C-HR, RAV4, Fortuner, Highlander. The brands are characterized by a calm and composed exterior. The minimum cost of a car from this manufacturer is 1,400,000 rubles.
Toyota Corolla is often seen on Russian roads. The modernized model is distinguished by a new exterior, improved performance characteristics, and a number of technical innovations. At the same time, the car is inexpensive to maintain. Since cars from this manufacturer are popular among Russians, there are many service centers and stores throughout the country that sell parts and consumables for cars of this brand.
Most users speak well of Toyota cars, noting their high quality and reliability. They also include the following advantages:
- Capacity.
- Convenience of a car dealership.
- Smooth ride.
- Elegant appearance.
- Maintainability.
Toyota Corolla VS Mitsubishi Lancer: which car is better?
Reliability, quality, comfort - three components that car enthusiasts value so much in their “iron horses”. That is why many people prefer Toyota cars, especially the C-class sedan - the Corolla model. The Japanese manufacturer tirelessly improves its brainchild. Today, car enthusiasts can enjoy the tenth generation Toyota Corolla - a high-tech, stylish, compact, and most importantly safe car. In its class, Toyota Corolla competes with another “Japanese” - Mitsubishi Lancer X. What are the main differences between “classmates” and what should you give your preference to?
Toyota Corolla VS Mitsubishi Lancer
- 1 Differences visible to the naked eye
- 2 Compare the technical parameters of the car
- 3 A look from the inside
I think Lancer 10 is a worthy competitor to the Corolla. Considering the nice interior and its lower cost. Who thinks about this?
Such questions should be asked at a civic club (or any other one you wish), and you will receive a more or less objective answer.
Lancer did not stand next to the Corolla.
More simple, therefore cheaper. In the maximum configuration there is no monitor, no cameras, no climate control. There are no safety aids (antibucking, exchange rate control), etc. The trunk is 140 liters smaller. There is less space in the cabin. For rear passengers, the Corolla is a limousine compared to the Lancer.
I think that the Lancer is not a competitor because of its outdated body :) since 7 there has essentially been no restyling. It will go like a used car. but if you take a new one, it’s not an option. purely my opinion))
Here the Corolla is compared with different cars, but not with the Lancer. I wanted to know why the latter was passed over?
There really isn't enough space in the luggage for my transportation.
I agree that it is outdated in appearance, probably mainly due to the fact that it has become familiar. I liked the inside.
A girl worked at my work who had a Lancer 10, she very often went to lunch with me, in a 150 Corolla on very bad roads and on normal ones, and so she says that the Corolla is certainly more comfortable and less noisy than the Lancer. Now she and her husband are already driving a new Passat :)))
I had a Lancer x 2007. For me it’s a great car, it handles absolutely great. The cars are the same in my opinion: each is better in some ways, worse in others. The Corolla is a little more comfortable in terms of driving, the Lancer is more rigid. But it handles much better than the Corolla, the rear suspension is independent. In terms of reliability it is slightly inferior to the Corolla. I drove it for five years, the body was in perfect condition, the color was black, the mileage was 130 t.km. Not a single refueling of the air conditioner, no manipulations with the engine at all. For 80 thousand, replacement of the front struts, graphite ring in the exhaust tract. Sold for 390 thousand rubles. I took the Corolla to try. I’m a little disappointed with the controls, the pillars are heavily piled inside the car, rain pours inside the car, there are not strong knocks when the clutch is released - that’s what immediately caught my eye. There is more space in the Corolla, a larger trunk, a quieter cabin, but in the Lancer there is plenty of room for rear passengers. The body and some things have been slightly restyled. I've already become familiar with it. If it were 2 liters, I would honestly take a new one. Still happy with the Corolla: identical)
Although if there was a 2-liter Corolla, I would take it) My brother has a 150, an excellent car.
And personally, the only thing that disappoints me about the King is that the 1.8 engine does not have mechanics, which is what I wanted.
Differences
- Ground clearance. Toyota has a ground clearance of 160 mm. The Camry has the same amount, but it's a sedan. This tells potential buyers the need to be careful on bad roads and not rely on crossover status. The revived Eclipse is more practical and reliable in this regard – with a clearance of 183 mm.
- Dynamics. Mitsubishi is equipped with a 1.5 liter turbocharged engine, while Toyota is equipped with a modest 1.2 liter engine. And yet she wins in dynamics. Despite the Eclipse Cross's identical 0-60 mph time of 11.4 seconds and the Eclipse Cross's higher top speed, the C-HR's CVT is tuned better than the Mitsubishi's CVT. This, along with the low seating position and agility, guarantees a positive driving experience and excellent results over short distances compared to its competitor.
- Available place. The Eclipse Cross is larger in all respects: the interior is more spacious and the trunk is 40 liters larger. Taking into account the fact that the crossover status still presupposes the presence of good roominess of the car, Toyota is clearly inferior in this regard.
- Fuel consumption. 3 liters in mixed mode for the C-HR versus 7.7 for the Mitsubishi. That's a pretty big price to pay for a powerful motor that doesn't give you any advantage in speed.
- Interior finishing. At first impression the salons are similar. Same style, button layout, monitor. But, having looked closely and been behind the wheel for some time, you understand that the quality of materials and electronics in Toyota is better, and it’s more pleasant to be in it.
Mitsubishi
The production is carried out by the famous Japanese corporation Mitsubishi. It produces mainly SUVs and crossovers that are suitable for the road and weather conditions of the Russian Federation. His cars are famous for their high quality and reliability. The machine is assembled in Japan, Thailand, USA, Russia. The main feature of these cars is adaptability. The body part can be made in the form of an SUV, crossover, or pickup truck. The exterior is presentable.
A special feature of Mitsubishi cars is the Super Select transmission. It is available in all-wheel drive car models. Capable of connecting all four wheels if necessary. Under normal weather conditions, two wheels are connected. This allows you to use fuel economically and reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the environment.
Also unique to the cars of this manufacturer is the use of the Mivec electronic variable valve timing system. It allows you to develop maximum power and at the same time use the fuel mixture economically. All modern motors are developed using this technology.
The following brands are available in Russia:
- Pajero Sport.
- ASX.
- Eclipse Cross.
- Pajero.
- L200.
- Outlander.
The cost of a car starts from 980,000 rubles. Users highlight the high quality of machines with timely maintenance.
Exterior and interior decoration
HiLux in generation 8 has received an update. Part of the restyling was the release of the Exclusive modification in the most expensive configuration. In addition to an advanced set of power units, the car has acquired new exterior details.
- The exterior is crowned by a massive radiator grille - 6-gonal in shape and without horizontal fins.
- The front bumper also looks different: its air intake has become trapezoidal in shape, and changes have also been made to the profile of the recesses for the fog lamps.
- For tires, 18-inch wheels with a unique pattern were produced.
- The dimensions are also different: 9 mm longer, 2 cm wider and 3.5 cm lower than its predecessor.
The silhouette is swift, with a harmonious stern. Accents in the form of a raised side, a powerful bumper and chrome parts add a favorable impression.
The interior has been transformed into a completely modern one. The driver's side panel is lined with hard plastic. The multimedia system with a 7-inch screen and touch keys catches your eye. A 4.2-inch TFT screen is attached to the dashboard, where incoming calls are sent from the audio system, as well as information about the operation of the car.
In addition to comfortable seats, which are 1 cm higher, and a spacious drawer for small items, passengers are offered cup holders, climate control, and increased legroom. The driver can adjust the steering column in height and towards himself, and control the car's winding system from the key.
Exclusive is finished in black outside and inside. The upholstery of this series is made of perforated leather, and the ignition key is equipped with an intelligent Entry & Start system.
The L200 is updated with Dynamic Shield for masculine styling with the latest safety options and an improved all-wheel drive system.
The car is called the most unusual of all pickup trucks. The front end is designed like an Eclipse Cross or Xpander model, with narrow LED headlights, large turn signals and a stylized X-face.
The hood and body fronts became higher, the wheel arches acquired a slightly square shape, and the profile of the rear signals, bumper, and wheels changed.
The interior layout, for the most part, remains the same. The panels are upholstered with soft inserts, otherwise the central part on the driver's side and the design of the instruments have been worked out. New systems include 360° cameras, front and rear parking sensors, auto braking and blind spot monitoring.
COROL 111
Shall we take it? But adding only 28,000 rubles, you will buy a much more functional, comfortable and elegant sedan - with central armrests, leather steering wheel, heated windshield, high-frequency speakers and fog lights. This car is called “Comfort” and costs 819,000 rubles with a CVT. - we, perhaps, recognize it as the optimum. Although there is still room for doubt here - after all, by paying an additional 24,000 rubles, which is quite modest in these days, you will receive light alloy wheels and a rear view camera in the “Comfort+” version.
Distinctive features
These cars also have many differences. Among them are the following:
- Mitsubishi are more adapted to Russian roads.
- In terms of maintenance costs, Mitsubishi is more affordable.
- Toyota has a wider range of models.
- Mitsubishi are distinguished by their unpretentiousness.
- The quality of the interior trim is higher in Toyota.
- Mitsubishi is cheaper.
- On Russian roads you can often see cars produced by Toyota.
- Parts and consumables are easier to find on Toyota. At the same time, they are cheaper.
We remember
Toyota RAV4
In the top trim levels of the RAV4 there are 4 video cameras that offer this all-round viewing mode. The interior of the Toyota is unusual, and many different textured materials are used in the decoration. With ESP disabled, Toyota is still a hooligan, but a light comes on quite quickly, warning of possible overheating of the transmission. The 6-band automatic transmission is almost as smooth as a CVT. The trunk is 100 liters larger, but instead of a full-fledged spare wheel, there is only a “removable” one. On the move, the RAV4 is noisier and harsher than its rival.
Mitsubishi Outlander
Spare tire outside? This is not the best solution for a crossover - the wheel will be dirty, and secondly, if it gets stuck in a rut, you won’t be able to remove it. The Mitsubishi's interior looks more traditional, but there are questions about ergonomics - the driver's seat is located noticeably higher than in Toyota. After the next modernization, the variator has become faster and works very smoothly. The suspension is softer, sound insulation is better - Outlander is more comfortable on a flat road.

Powertrains and transmission
The old competitors are quite similar in technical specifications. It is quite difficult to decide which is better - Toyota Hilux or Mitsubishi L200, although there are differences, and they can be easily seen from the summary tables. Let's start comparing the l200 and HiLux with Toyota:
Characteristics | 2.4MT/2.8AT |
Engine type/volume | Diesel, 2393/2755 |
Power | 150/177 hp |
Speed maximum | 170/175 |
Consumption city/extra city/mixed | 8,9-6,4-7,3/10,9-7,1-8,5 |
Tank volume, liters | 80 |
Transmission | 6-speed, manual/automatic |
Drive unit | Full |
Front suspension | Spring independent |
Rear suspension | Spring dependent |
Front brakes | Disc, with ventilation |
Rear brakes | Drums |
Mitsubishi L200:
Characteristics | 2.45AT4WD DIESEL/2.46MT4WD DIESEL |
Engine type/volume | Diesel/2442 |
Power, l. With | 154 |
Speed maximum | 173/169 |

Drive unit | Full |
Front suspension | Double wishbone + stabilizer |
Rear suspension | Threaded axle on leaf springs |

Rear brakes | Drum + pressure regulator, 11.6 inches |
As you can see, the transmission parameters and some details differ. Both versions have automatic transmission. The fuel consumption of the Hilux 2.4MT is lower, but in the 2.8AT assembly, on the contrary, it is less economical than the L200.
Who should buy what and when?
The presence of common features and a variety of models complicates the choice of car. Experts advise when choosing to be guided by the following criteria:
- Appearance.
- Economical.
- Low cost of maintenance and repairs.
- Financial position.
- The quality of the roads on which you plan to drive your car.
Those who want to get an unpretentious, economical car should buy a Mitsubishi. Cars from this manufacturer are also suitable for those who have a limited budget. For those who pay great attention to appearance, it is better to consider the Toyota model range. There is a wide range available and you can choose a car that will suit your individual preferences.
If simplicity and low cost of car maintenance and repair are in the foreground, then you should buy a Toyota. If the road condition is bad, then preference should be given to Mitsubishi. These cars are more adapted to the low quality of the Russian road surface.
To make it easier to make a choice, it is recommended to read reviews about each model, consult with friends or acquaintances who own Toyota or Mitsubishi cars.
