Owner reviews of Toyota Fortuner

About the model

The Japanese car brand Toyota is popular among drivers around the world. The company produces high-quality cars of different classes. The brand boasts a whole collection of excellent off-road SUVs. Land Cruiser 100 and 200 have long been hits among drivers.

However, the company also has less popular models. But the build quality of these machines is no worse than that of the recognized favorites. Reviews of Toyota Fortuner only confirm the simple thesis presented.

Review of Toyota Fortuner - it couldn’t be better

I am actively interested in outdoor recreation, I love fishing, hunting, and trips to pick mushrooms. I used to drive a regular sedan, but the car’s capabilities clearly did not meet my needs. I saved up some money, sold the Corolla and took the Fortuner. The impressions are the most positive.

One of the advantages of the model is the spacious interior. The car is great for large families and trips with friends. Accommodates 7 people without any problems.

Now for consumption. In my city it took about 16 liters of gas. On the highway, consumption is less, but not significantly (about 14-15 liters). Among the advantages of the model I can highlight:

  1. Cheap service and cost of spare parts.
  2. Reliability. I've owned the car for a couple of years and haven't had any problems. After the purchase I went through the chassis and that was all.

I would like to supplement my review of the Toyota Fortuner with a little advice for other motorists. I don't recommend driving an SUV. At the rear there are conventional drum brakes. It is better not to push the car more than 120-140 km/h. At this speed the car behaves confidently. It feels like it turns into corners no worse than the pop Pradik.

Reviews from Toyota Fortuner 2019-2020 owners

Among the advantages of Fortuner, I can highlight the dashboard - it is informative and pleasing to the eye, there is also an on-board computer. The steering wheel controls have become comfortable and even somewhat reminiscent of a BMW. Two glove compartments and a glove box are also advantages and features.

The wood-effect inserts on the dashboard look solid, but I didn’t like the insert on the steering wheel, or you need to get used to it - a couple of times I even slipped my hand, since it is thinner than the base of the steering wheel. A noticeable disadvantage is the trunk, since it has no pockets or shelves. I am a hunter and this is inconvenient for me.

Review of diesel Toyota Fortuner 2.8D (177 hp) with automatic transmission 2019

In terms of operation, I can say the following: the engine is enough for up to 100 km/h, pilots and racers, please do not worry, the car is not for you. It picks up sharply from 2-2.5 thousand rpm, it goes up long climbs easily, you don’t really need to turn the engine, the torque is excellent. At a speed of 120 km/h the rpm is 1,700.

Shumka 4 points out of five. The engine can only be heard when the rpm is over 2.5 thousand, but I admit I like the sound. Acceleration is dynamic up to 80 km/h, then it stops. He walks along the sand without straining at the word “at all.”

Pavel, review of Toyota Fortuner 2.8D diesel with automatic transmission 2021.

On slippery roads, it is advisable to use all-wheel drive, otherwise it may skid even when TSR is running. Off-road at low speed, it rushes like a tank. High seating position and good visibility! Of the minuses: on the road it shakes a little at a speed of 100-120 km/h, probably on small potholes.

Review of the new Toyota Fortuner Elegance 2.8D 2021

From time to time you have to travel along the route Chita - Ulan-Ude and back. Distance one way is 650 km. So, a full tank is enough to get to your destination and drive about 100 km around the city.

According to my observations, consumption is about 9.0 - 9.5 liters per 100 km, while the computer shows instantaneous gasoline consumption of about 5 liters. On a Toyota 4Runner 2005. (4.0 l engine), Land Cruiser 200 2011 (4.7 liter engine), which I drove earlier - I had to refuel on the road.

Alexey, review of Toyota Fortuner 2.7 (166 hp) automatic transmission 2018.

The thin metal of the body bends when pressed with a finger. Very delicate coloring, the varnish is scratched even by tall grass. I’m not talking about bushes and branches at all. The color fastness to mechanical stress was very disappointing.

Before this, I had a Suzuki Grand Vitara, so I drove it through fields and forests for 10 years, there were almost no scratches, but after several trips into the forest I received multiple and in some places deep scratches on the body.

Review of Toyota Fortuner 2.7 with automatic transmission 2021

The engine is powerful and the car is maneuverable. I drive around the city, and many people look with surprise at how this is possible on a Forte, although it’s rear-wheel drive, and I only turned on 4WD in the mud outside the city, in winter we’ll see how it shows itself.

Consumption in the city with air conditioning is 18 liters. I think it will decrease by 10 thousand. Outside the city - an honest 12 liters at 130 km/h. It overtakes perfectly, although many people write that the engine is a vegetable, but this is not so, you need to know how to drive.

Specifications

The new Toyota Fortuner 2021 body is built on the frame chassis of the 8th generation Hilux pickup truck, but has a number of fundamental differences. The front suspension of the Japanese SUV at the front is spring, independent, on double wishbones, while at the rear there is a dependent spring suspension with long strokes.

Disc brakes are installed on all wheels of the car, with ventilated ones at the front. The Toyota Fortuner II SUV has the following overall dimensions, mm

  • Length - 4 795
  • Width - 1,855
  • Height - 1 835
  • Wheelbase - 2,745
  • Ground clearance (clearance) - 225

The trunk volume in the seven-seater version is stated at 297 liters, but the seats in the gallery can be folded, increasing the compartment capacity to 620 liters. Fuel tank volume - 80-87 l. The model's curb weight is largely determined by the selected engine/equipment and varies from 2,060 to 2,215 kg.

  • The 2021 Toyota Fortuner SUV is powered by a 2.7-liter gasoline engine producing 163 hp. (245 Nm), which can work with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. In both cases, acceleration from zero to hundreds is stated at 12.0 seconds, while the car can reach speeds of up to 180 km/h.
  • More expensive versions of the model are equipped with a 2.8-liter diesel engine. It can work exclusively with automatic transmission, developing 177 forces and 450 Nm of torque. From 0-100 km/h, the diesel SUV accelerates in 11.2 seconds, and it can be accelerated to the same 180 kilometers per hour.

On paper, the difference between the engines may seem insignificant, but practice shows that gasoline Fortuners are seriously inferior in dynamics to diesel ones. Moreover, the operation of a gasoline engine with an automatic transmission also raises certain questions - each acceleration is accompanied by a series of jerks, so there is no need to talk about any smoothness. Diesel, in turn, gets along well with automatic transmission.

The suspension on the “Japanese” is stiff, so you can forget about comfort when traveling on uneven asphalt, but at the same time it is energy-intensive and allows you to pass even significant defects in the road surface without breakdown of the shock absorbers.

As for off-road, the diesel version looks best here, as it can overcome obstacles in the form of steep climbs on the move and without hesitation, while owners of gasoline cars have to first figure out the optimal approach.

Interesting Facts

The second generation Toyota Fortuner 2 was officially presented in July two thousand and fifteen by the Australian division of the company, while sales of the “rogue” started in the main markets in the fall of the same year.

As for Russia, the SUV reached our country only in October two thousand and seventeen, and at the start of sales the car was offered exclusively with a diesel engine, and a more affordable gasoline modification appeared in the showrooms of official dealers of the brand only in the eighteenth.

In 2021, Toyota introduced the Fortuner from the TRD factory division, which received a more aggressive off-road body kit and stylish decor.

Review (exterior and interior)

Toyota Fortuner 2021 in a new body is made in the corporate style of the Japanese brand and looks noticeably prettier than its predecessor. The “face” of the model is formed by narrow headlights, a generously chromed radiator grille with three horizontal fins, as well as striking side sections of the front bumper with fog lights. The latter are also decorated with chrome and resemble fangs from the outside.

The profile of the SUV attracts attention with a break in the window sill closer to the stern and small windows in the rear roof pillars. At the rear of the car there are narrow lights, united by a chrome plate with the model name, and an equally solid visor hangs over the monumental fifth door.

The Fortuneren's salon is strictly seven-seater, while some of its solutions are borrowed from the donor Hilux. The modern front panel is decorated with eye-catching metallic inserts, while the car has a clearly defined center console.

At the top of the latter, between the ventilation deflectors, there is an electronic clock, and below it is a 7.0-inch display of the multimedia system and a dual-zone climate control unit. The driver is offered a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a dashboard with a traditional layout, where a color screen of the on-board computer is located between the large dials of the tachometer and speedometer.

The interior ergonomics of the Toyota Fortuner 2021 evoke mixed feelings. On the one hand, the car can offer passengers two spacious glove compartments and comfortable handles on the A-pillars, which significantly facilitate the process of getting in/out; on the other hand, control buttons for various functions are scattered almost throughout the cabin. Their location is illogical, and you have to put up with it.

The front seats on this SUV are comfortable, but limited reach adjustment of the steering wheel can negatively affect driver comfort. The amount of free space in the legs of second-row passengers is overwhelming, but the ceiling could be a little higher.

As for the gallery, it is complete and suitable not only for transporting children. True, when fully loaded, the model’s trunk becomes purely symbolic and its modest volume may simply not be enough for long trips.

Review of Toyota Fortuner: a workhorse

I picked up a car here https://carshot.com.ua/our-prices/, I was looking for a car exclusively for a comfortable life. I myself am a farmer, I live 120 km from the metropolis. I go to the city and back often, but I use the car in the area for the maximum amount of time.

My review of Toyota Fortuner is only positive. The model is unpretentious. Over the 5 years of operation I had to visit a service station a couple of times. In general, there were no special problems. Even in our regional center there were no difficulties in finding spare parts and technicians.

A positive impression arose after using it in cold weather. In winter, at -25 degrees, the car started without problems. No difficulties.

Another plus is spaciousness. A couple of times a month I go to the city for the fair. I fill the car with goods to the fullest. I used to suffer with a car and trailers, but now I’ve completely forgotten about the suffering.

Main characteristics of Toyota Fortuner

The Japanese SUV, which was originally produced in Thailand and intended exclusively for sale in this country, is a sports-utility car. This is a type of SUV that looks like a car designed for rough terrain, however, it is perfectly suited for urban conditions and operation in populated areas.

Toyota Fortuner is a frame car. The base was inherited from a Toyota Hilux pickup truck. But at the same time, unlike its brother, the Fortuner has a spring suspension, not a spring one. This technology allows the car to roll smoothly on a flat highway, but at the same time comfortably overcome off-road conditions. All-wheel drive will always pull you out of a deep snowdrift or sticky mud.

Inside the Toyota Fortuner there is a spacious interior. The driver and passengers sit high, and station wagon technology provides increased luggage capacity when the third row of seats is folded. Ground clearance allows you not to notice irregularities that would become an obstacle for other cars.

The following modifications of Toyota Fortuner are presented on the territory of the Russian Federation:

  • 2.8 l, diesel with automatic transmission, 166 horsepower, 245 Nm;
  • 2.7 l, gasoline with manual and automatic transmission, 177 horsepower, 450 Nm;

According to statistics, diesel cars are the most popular in Russia.

I do not recommend buying a Toyota Fortuner.

I want to start my review of Toyota Fortuner with a positive. The car has really huge ground clearance. In principle, I did not have any problems with overcoming obstacles on the road.

It rows confidently and reliably through mud and snow. I can add a huge interior and a spacious trunk to the advantages. You can even play football inside.

Now about the disadvantages. There are many of them:

  • consumption;
  • design;
  • comfort.

The car is gluttonous to the point of impossibility. Personally, I lost 24-25 liters of gas per 100 km in the city. Moreover, I try to drive carefully and don’t drive too hard. Just moving from one gas station to another with short stops to do your business.

The design leaves much to be desired. Externally, the car looks more like an expensive stool on wheels. Of course, it comes down to taste and color. Perhaps my opinion is biased, I don’t argue. At first I liked the car, but then I started looking for flaws in everything I could.

Review of Toyota Fortuner: reliability and style

My review of Toyota Fortuner is extremely positive. The car is stylish, roomy and passable. Looks solid. On the track it looks much more attractive than other frames.

During operation I discovered 3 shortcomings. It is better not to use an SUV for long-distance travel. The back will become so stiff that you can even howl. The disadvantages include gluttony. If you plan to take it, immediately prepare to drive from gas station to gas station.

The last drawback is handling at high speed. The car is definitely not suitable for racers. After 130 km/h it becomes difficult to control the movement.

I want “standard”, and that’s it!)

Good evening forum members!

I plan to take the new generation Fortuner. I chose the standard package for several reasons.

1 - I like manual transmission . This point alone is probably enough) An automatic transmission in such a car - in my understanding - kills all the fun of driving, because... I enjoy DRIVING a car, and not just driving. The city is small, there are no traffic jams, I don’t plan to move. But off-road is always welcome)

And of course it’s simpler, cheaper, more reliable - everyone probably knows that.

2 - engine 166 l/s . Someone says “he’s not going.” All these “goes” and “doesn’t go” are, of course, very relative. For example, for me (now I drive a West Cross sedan 1.6) - it will be more than enough. I'm a calm driver. It’s comfortable to drive on the highway in traffic at 100-110 km/h. Overtaking, changing lanes, for the sake of dubious seconds or even minutes is not my thing. I probably didn’t go above 125 at all. I never drowned it until I was 100 sq.m. Didn't go sideways. Yes - old fart. I live in the north (Arkhangelsk), cold weather in winter is common here, and a diesel engine with a turbine can begin to act up in such conditions. In addition, install all sorts of heaters - well, don’t bother with them.

The only doubt about gasoline is how it will behave with 5 people. inside along the road where only UAZs and loaves of bread drive. I will ask a question on this topic at the end of the post.

3 - additional options . As I already said, now I’m riding West. In the “cross” version, the minimum configuration starts with Lux. And in a year of driving I have never used: cruise, heated seats, cooling in the glove compartment, parking sensors, hill assist system. The last point is a complete nightmare because... you can’t turn it off, and it’s hard to guess at what slope it will work. Therefore, if I’m on a slope in traffic or at a traffic light, I use a kind of life hack - I first click the handbrake one notch and start with it. Then the system doesn't work. There is no grinding of the brakes, you can even forget about the handbrake)

And now, when choosing a configuration, I realize that all this stuffing doesn’t matter at all and is of no use in my case. Although keyless entry is a good thing, the difference in price will be already 1 million. Of course, for this million they will sell me another pack of “necessary” goodies, for example - plastic inserts “like wood”, an electric trunk, parking sensors, cruise control, and a multimedia console is another inconvenience.

the color of the handles, grille, steps - seriously? Heated seats, hill descent control, leather upholstery - a nightmare! In winter it’s cold, in summer it’s hot) Air permeability is zero. In general, I hope you understand my vision when choosing a configuration. Of course, I wouldn’t take the Vesta as standard, because the difference there is far from a million between the trim levels)

I will install separately:

-Climate control panel

-PTF

-Side cushions

And now the questions:

1) Is it possible to install the “push-button start and keyless entry system” option on the standard equipment?

2) Regarding the engine - are there current turbo kits for this engine, and how will they behave, what if there are owners here?

3) Has anyone done chip tuning on the “standard” and what were the results?

4) Is the suspension lift done at the dealer, or is this considered a “structural change” with all that it entails, such as voiding the warranty? The ground clearance of the Vesta (even without passengers) is always not enough for me.

5) I didn’t find the option “electrically heated windshield”, there is only one with the item “in the rest zone of the wipers”. Does it even exist? I'm wondering the same thing about the rear window.

6) I ask manual transmission owners to post a photo of the location of the pedals) Let me explain - in the version with automatic transmission, the gas pedal is quite recessed relative to the brake, and transferring the right foot from the gas to the brake is very inconvenient.
Perhaps a matter of habit. But still) Modified on January 2, 2021 by Zak
