The Japanese company Toyota brought to the 2015 Geneva Motor Show a restyled version of the Toyota Auris family for the 2015-2016 model year. The updated Toyota Auris has acquired a corrected appearance, new elements and equipment in the cabin, improved sound insulation, changed steering and suspension settings, and most importantly, new gasoline and diesel engines. The updated Toyota Auris 2015-2016 was accompanied on the Toyota Motor Corporation podium at the Geneva International Motor Show by the older model Toyota Avensis, which also underwent a similar update.

The compact Auris in Russia enjoys rather modest popularity among domestic car enthusiasts. In 2014, there were only 1,410 people wishing to buy a Toyota Auris in Russia. But in Europe, the car confidently holds second place in terms of sales among the entire Toyota model line (the leader is Toyota Yaris). As usual, we’ll start with the appearance of the review participant and immediately note that the changes in the exterior design of the body of the updated Toyota Auris hatchback and Toyota Auris Touring Sports station wagon are purely cosmetic in nature, designed to give the cars a more modern look and equip the new product with fashionable LED headlights and side lights with LED filling. Photos of the restyled version of the Auris model from Toyota will help us and our readers identify new parts and elements on the car body, especially since there are not so many of them. At the front, the updated versions of the Toyota Auris 2015-2016 model year differ from the pre-reform models with new and more compact headlights with LED filling and a different false radiator grille, a completely new bumper with a redrawn placement of the central air intake and foglights, and also complemented by bright aerodynamic elements.

In profile, the new product can only be recognized by the new design of 16-17 inch wheel rims and new enamel colors - Dark Blue Mica and Blue Metallic. At the rear of the updated Toyota Auris, a more massive bumper and expressive side lights with LED filling have appeared. By the way, LED lamps are designed for a service life of at least 100,000 hours!

The interior of the updated Auris family was awarded with a new dashboard with two radii, sunk in deep wells, and a 4.2-inch color on-board computer screen, new side ventilation deflectors and a new upper front panel, a modern multimedia system with a color 8-inch touch screen and a modernized climate control unit. The sound insulation of the interior has been improved through the use of additional sound-absorbing materials; the materials used for finishing the interior panels and seats have become of higher quality.

  • Also, the updated Toyota Auris 2015 received the Toyota Safety Sense active safety complex, which operates using radars and cameras installed on the windshield and bumper. The complex includes the following systems: Pre-Collision System (frontal collision prevention system with automatic braking function), Lane Departure Alert (warning system for unauthorized crossing of the marking line), Auto High Beam (automatic high beam control), Road Sign Assist (tracking assistant behind road signs).

  • The diesel 1.6-liter D-4D (112 hp 270 Nm) provides acceleration to 100 km/h in 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 190 km; average diesel fuel consumption is 4.1 liters. Interestingly, this motor was developed by BMW motorists.
  • The petrol 1.2-liter turbocharged engine (116 hp 185 Nm) is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission (optionally equipped with a Multidrive S variator), with a manual gearbox the engine accelerates the car to the first hundred in 10.1 seconds, the maximum speed is 200 mph. Gasoline consumption in combined driving mode is 4.7 liters with a manual transmission and 4.7 liters with a CVT.

Of course, the engine lineup still includes the 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i and 1.6-liter Valvematic petrol engines, the 1.4-liter D-4D diesel engine, as well as a hybrid power plant for the Auris Hybrid, which includes 1.8 -liter VVT-i petrol engine and electric motor generate, producing a pair of 136 hp and providing acceleration from 0 to 100 mph in 10.9 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph.

Were you expecting “anger”? Receive. The new front end turned out to be controversial. The new “mouth” of the front bumper added 25 millimeters to the length of the car. Defiantly? Maybe. It seems as if the regular Camry has become seriously angry, and from now on expresses its readiness to rush into battle. However, the stern expression of the new “face” does not particularly cause concern... What do we have? The front is in the form of a “mouth”, the rear is unchanged except for the corrected headlights.

Interior design and equipment

The Japanese company’s specialists have worked hard not only on refining the exterior of the updated sedan. There have also been a lot of changes inside the cabin. Thus, the 2015 Toyota Camry received an improved front panel, a new instrument panel with a 4.2-inch diagonal information screen and a stylish 3-spoke steering wheel.

The company also improved the quality of finishing materials and used more noise-absorbing elements. A more interesting list of additional options has appeared. For example, the manufacturer offers a windshield with the option of heating the entire surface or just the lower part. The most expensive trim levels received a driver's seat with the option to save settings, an option for wireless charging of a mobile device, and heated rear seats.

The amount of free space remains the same. As in its predecessor, it is comfortable here not only for the driver and front passenger, but also for those who find themselves in the second row. The trunk volume of the restyled Toyota Camry is 506 liters.

But the interior has undergone a radical rethink: a new steering wheel has appeared, a different air conditioning unit has appeared, and the dashboard has been completely changed. But blue lighting is not the best solution. Previously, all the keys and monitors on the Camry were illuminated with a neutral green light, which you quickly get used to, but now? There are bright blue spots on the dials, all around there is the process of metallization... Did you want to refine it? It turned out differently: Chinese cars have been surprising with such color schemes for decades, filling all the poor quality everyday equipment, which was famous for its blue backlight. It is precisely because of this that there is no feeling of reliability.

However, there is a variety of colors. Half of the keys are illuminated in blue, the climate control keys are green, and the bottom rows of buttons that activate the heating are generally orange...

More “jambs” are not observed. Ergonomics are at a high level. The new steering wheel is ideal: the rim is thick, with pronounced tides in the 9 and 15 o'clock zone. There are heated windshield wiper sectors in static mode, heated seats... The only thing missing from the ideal set is steering wheel heating. The seat lacks distinct side bolsters, but successfully holds the load.

In motion, the duo of a 2.5-liter engine with a thoroughly modified automatic transmission demonstrated a fighting spirit. It's worth noting that you don't expect such vigor from a Camry. Previously, a good player in this field in the business car segment was the Honda Accord with a 2.4 liter engine. Subjectively, Honda has achieved the ideal settings for this combination of engine and gearbox. Now we can say that the Camry has approximately similar characteristics. Factory data is not surprising: 231 Newton-meter, 9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, 210 km/h - maximum speed. However, in Camry it is the process itself that is important, not the numbers.

Right from the start, the car shows serious grip, hinting that all 181 forces will try. Start - without a single delay. The reaction to pressing the gas is sometimes excessive: on slippery surfaces, the driving front wheels often slip. However, even here everything can be sadder, for example, the KIA Optima also takes on sharp reactions at first, but then quickly “fades away”, because the gears in the box are stretched out, and the engine settings are specific. The Camry spins confidently, changes gears quickly and on time.

The whole process takes place against the background of a tolerable noise accompaniment: there is a feeling that they did not skimp on sound insulation on this car. The sound of the power unit is clearly audible, but the engine is not annoying, and at times even pleases the ear with a roar. What's even better is that the engine is responsive throughout the entire speed range. There is enough power both in urban areas and on the highway. Although the consumption is not small: the city is no less than the average 13.5 liters per 100 kilometers.

A similar assertive attitude of the power unit could imply a corresponding chassis, so that the behavior of the car would be harmonious. However, in Camry the emphasis is still a little different: here comfort is a priority, and only then handling. The suspensions are tuned with a clear focus on softness: the front MacPherson strut and the rear multi-link absorb almost all road impacts, preventing strong vibrations on the body. On the other hand, there are rolls in turns. Not critical, but you can feel it. Sharp acceleration in a car causes the rear axle to squat, braking causes the front axle to squat. It is possible that, thanks to the soft suspension, the engine power is felt a little differently than it is in reality. Not without flaws: when driving at a speed of 70 km/h, the track, which often occurs, is fraught with not only longitudinal or transverse, but also diagonal rocking of the body.

Toyota Highlander

So, new Toyota models 2015
