Each car has its own advantages and disadvantages
We bring to your attention our version of comparing the data of the two models and let’s start with the appearance, reports [email protected].
Compared to the Mondeo, the Camry is the embodiment of solidity, although the designers tried to apply a little frivolous makeup to the overweight “face,” such as chrome curls around the foglights. I don’t know how much they managed to attract young people with this step and not scare away officials, but from the front the Camry now looks like a huge catfish. Fishermen will love it. But the same 17-inch wheels look more organic than in the Mondeo arches.
The largest automaker in the world, the Japanese corporation Toyota Motor, plans to almost completely stop the production and sale of gasoline cars by 2050 and completely switch to the production of hybrid cars and fuel cell cars. The company announced this in Tokyo during the presentation of its own development program called “Toyota 2050 - environmental problems,” writes TASS. The main goal of such an ambitious step is to significantly reduce harmful emissions.
The Mondeo is equipped a little better - the Camry lacks navigation and parking. By the way, you can refuse these options in Mondeo and save a decent amount. Both cars have dual-zone climate control, heated front and rear seats, comfortable access systems, parking sensors, electric seats, powerful Sony (Ford) and JBL (Toyota) audio systems, multimedia systems with touch screens and, of course, a full set of airbags . Except that the Camry’s flat “chairs” are covered in slippery leather, while the Mondeo’s seats have grippy Alcantara inserts.
Inside, by the way, the theme of body design continues - completely different impressions! Toyota seems to have been chopped with an ax - strict shapes, an abundance of rectangular buttons. As the Germans would say: “Kvadratish, praktish, gut!” But everything is convenient and located in intuitively expected places, although the steering wheel, which is large by modern standards, is somewhat surprising. The steering wheel itself is new, it came to the Camry after restyling. And the wood-effect inserts, after many years of shock, have finally acquired a noble hue. In addition, the light interior of the Camry seems more spacious, although it is not as practical - the armrest and seats of a car with a mileage of 19 thousand kilometers already need cleaning.
The Mondeo is completely different inside. The fit in the seat is tight, the body is fixed, as if you were in a sports car. The small steering wheel is trimmed in soft leather, and the heavily raked center console juts out into the cabin and enhances the cockpit feel. The details are more elegant, and the shapes are not reminiscent of 80s cabinet furniture. And no wood - just a combination of black and silver plastic. Instead of an analog instrument panel, there is a screen with drawn scales, and the menus of the Sync 2 multimedia complex do not look as simple as the graphics and blue background of the Toyota Touch 2 system. Both cars do not have the usual mechanical “handbrake” - in the Mondeo it is activated by a button, and in the Camry - with your foot.
It's a shame that on a straight road the Ford Mondeo can't prove its status as a high-tech modern sedan. In any case, with the 149-horsepower 2.5 engine - it is derated from the “American” 175 hp. and 225 N∙m. And you can feel it - having an advantage in power and torque (181 hp, 231 N∙m), the Toyota Camry easily leaves its opponent. And I’m especially pleased with the pleasant pick-up in the middle “revolution” zone, the groovy engine! Moreover, according to the passport acceleration to hundreds, the difference does not seem big - 10.3 seconds for Ford and 9 seconds for Toyota. But in fact, the Toyota is more dynamic in all driving modes, even despite the six-speed automatic tuned for a smooth ride.
The Mondeo automatic also does not strive to break shift speed records, snapping at active actions with the gas pedal in jerks. But it will be a little cheaper to drive - with a fuel consumption similar to Toyota's of 11 l/100 km, the Ford engine is designed to use AI-92 gasoline instead of Camry's "95". But where the Mondeo comes into its own is on twisty roads. Pure pleasure! We will not tire of repeating - the chassis is configured perfectly! The large sedan follows the wheel with the ease of a “charged” hatchback, as if it does not weigh more than 1.6 tons. Although some drivers may find its sharp reactions and actively steering rear axle frightening. You'll have to get used to it.
Driving a Camry - no revelations. Having transferred straight from the Mondeo, you notice “sloppy” brakes with a long pedal stroke, and the “steering wheel”, despite the fact that the cross-section of the rim resembles the BMW M-series steering wheels, actually has nothing in common with them - neither feedback nor information content. What's going on with the front wheels? Only Yokohama tires know. The “driver's” strings and decent rolls, due to which you slide off the flat leather “chair,” do not excite. And in long turns the body begins to sway on soft springs. In fact, even in a Toyota you can drive fast if you suddenly need to - let it roll and sway, but it clings to the asphalt. The difference is that for the Mondeo, twisting paths are a joy, while the Camry simply has the ability to avoid hitting a ditch face-first.
And for rear passengers, the Camry is still out of competition and outright outperforms the Mondeo in this regard - the Toyota sofa is more comfortable to sit on, there is more legroom and headroom. An amazing fact, because the Mondeo's wheelbase (2850 mm) is a full 75 mm longer than the Camry's wheelbase (2775 mm). In addition, the Camry can be purchased in the Prestige package, which adds a remote control for the audio system, climate control and electrically adjustable backrest angle. But the Ford is quieter. You close the door and seem to isolate yourself from the surrounding reality - a very decent “noise”! For long-distance trips, the Mondeo is preferable - the higher the speed, the more confidently it stands on the road, as if clinging to it, and the whistling of the wind is almost inaudible. Only tires on rough asphalt can be heard. The Camry also has the worst insulation in the wheel arches (again that Yokohama Decibel ruins everything!), and in general the overall noise level is higher than in the Mondeo - you can hear the air cutting through.
It would be logical to assume that a soft suspension would provide Toyota with a better ride, but this is only partly true - and the Mondeo shock absorbers do an excellent job with every little thing like patches, waves, and even on crushed trucks and cracked regional roads, the Ford goes like a charm. Only large potholes or holes with sharp edges can knock him off balance. Camry, on the contrary, copes better with the joints of Moscow overpasses, speed bumps and deep asphalt defects, but sways more strongly on waves.
A strange picture emerges. In terms of the totality of their qualities, these two sedans are on the same level, but in character they are diametrically opposed! Therefore, it is very easy to choose between them. The Toyota Camry is without any doubt better suited for those who ride behind or often travel with the whole family - it has a more comfortable sofa and trunk, calmer powertrain settings, and in corners it does not try to overtake everyone and everything. You will have to put up with high insurance rates and frequent maintenance (every 10 thousand km). The Ford Mondeo, on the other hand, is a car for those who drive and enjoy it, and its chassis settings are more selfish. And we confidently say that the Mondeo, with its good noise insulation, highway capabilities and cat-like agility, is a class-leading alternative to the Camry.
In addition, Mondeo is cheaper, and it will be a car with a 2.5 engine and automatic transmission. The Toyota Camry 2.5 is available only in the Comfort version, but if you don’t need a large range of options and don’t need a 181-horsepower engine, then you can buy the Camry 2.0 (150 hp). But this is another story, which we will definitely try to talk about in the next article.

Toyota recalls 6.5 million vehicles worldwide
The reason is problems with controlling the door power windows. Toyota Motor Corporation announced a recall of 6.5 million vehicles worldwide, Bloomberg reports. The reason for the recall is a problem with the door power window control switch. The company warns that a short circuit is possible, which will lead to overheating and melting of parts. The recall affects vehicles manufactured in Japan from January 2005 to August 2006 and from August 2008 to June 2010. In addition, the recall will affect vehicles manufactured outside of Japan during the periods from August 2005.
Due to the scandal, Volkswagen lost its world sales leadership - Toyota overtook
Toyota has regained its title as the world leader in car sales. Earlier, in the first half of the year, the Japanese group was overtaken by Volkswagen, but it experienced a decline due to a scandal with Toyota Motor Corp. software. at the end of nine months of 2015, it regained its title as the leading auto company in terms of sales volumes amid the scandal surrounding Volkswagen, RBC reports citing Bloomberg. The Japanese group reported that it sold 7.49 million cars, while the German group reached 7.43 million.
Ford Mondeo and Toyota Camry are well known to domestic consumers. These cars became especially noticeable starting in 2015. However, the eternal question remains: which is better, Ford Mondeo or Toyota Camry, of these two options?
Camry outsells
So far, judging by the state of the market, Camry still remains among the leaders in sales in Russia. But the sedan with the “blue oval” is also not asleep and is gradually gaining momentum, having already overtaken the Honda Accord and Nissan Tiana.
Ford has every chance to take the lead. The car has a dynamic silhouette and a memorable “face”, which from a distance can even be confused with an Aston Martin. On 17-inch wheels the sedan doesn't look very impressive. But if you install 18-piece wheels on it, the appearance immediately changes, making the car more prestigious. Now the “American” with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder power unit is sold for 1.58 million rubles.
Camry looks much more solid in comparison with Mondeo.
Although, in essence, these cars are very similar. On the latest bodies produced in 2015, the designers, in an attempt to win the hearts of a young audience, decided to add a chrome frame for the foglights. Whether they succeeded or not is up to the consumer to decide.
On 17-inch wheels, the “Japanese” looks much more interesting than the “American”, but at the same time, an Asian car with a similar configuration is more expensive and costs an average of 1.59 million rubles.
Ford Mondeo
The first Ford Mondeo rolled off the assembly line in Belgium in 1993, since then the American concern Ford has released 5 families of this model, the last update took place 4 years ago. The manufacturer offers several engine options, the most popular on the market is a sedan with a 2.5-liter power unit producing 149 hp .
Technical characteristics of the 2014 Mondeo 2.5 l:
- 6-speed automatic transmission.
- Front-wheel drive.
- Power 149 hp
- The volume of the fuel tank is 62 liters , consumption is about 8 liters of AI-92 gasoline.
- Acceleration time to one hundred kilometers is 10.3 seconds .
- Ground clearance 145 mm , body length 4872 mm , weight 1640 kg .
- 5 seats including driver.
The cost of this car is about 1.4 million rubles , depending on additional options.
The new Ford Mondeo has a fairly aggressive front grille and smooth body lines. The suspension is a little stiff, but it does its job well, the steering wheel is very informative, the handling is excellent, the braking system responds quickly and clearly, and the sound insulation is excellent. Inside the cabin there is enough space for 5 people, the finishing is made of medium quality materials and no wooden inserts. The seats themselves are comfortable and have lateral support. The car performed well at medium distances around the city, but on the highway there is a lack of power.
In general, it gives the impression of a well-built car, with an interesting appearance and interior, as well as a fairly rich set of equipment for 1.4 million rubles . The car is produced in Belgium and Russia.
Equipment
Ford has richer equipment. So, the Camry does not have navigation, and there is also no valet parking. Recently, this function has found great interest among car enthusiasts. But if you wish, you can refuse it when ordering a car. By the way, this will save an average of 88 thousand rubles.
The main options for both machines are approximately the same:
- climate control;
- heating of all seats;
- Acoustic Parking System (APS);
- electrically adjustable front seats;
- good audio systems;
- touch screen.
Interior design
Toyota has practical and strict shapes. Rectangular buttons are arranged in order and allow the driver to intuitively find the activation of the required option. At the same time, the Camry has a rather large steering wheel.
The bright interior of the “Japanese” looks beautiful and presentable.
The tone also visually increases the space, but quickly gets dirty.
Ford Mondeo looks completely different inside. The chairs are designed in such a way that a person sits tightly in them. The soft leather on the small steering wheel is pleasant to the touch and only brings driving pleasure. The console is designed in a more futuristic style. The buttons and pressed panel do not have such a strict and arrogant appearance. And if the Camry has wood-effect inserts, which some car enthusiasts consider inappropriate, then the Mondeo does not have this. Dark plastic blends seamlessly with silver inserts.
Both cars do not have a traditional handbrake handle. In Ford it is replaced by a button, and in Toyota it is replaced by a pedal.
What do Mondeo and Camry have in common, what are the differences?
The fact that both cars belong to the D class and have an interesting interior and exterior is perhaps all that is common between them. Otherwise they are completely different.
The Japanese is more suitable for comfortable travel and as a passenger. The salon is more spacious. The engine is more powerful, but it doesn't make you want to drive aggressively. The cost of servicing the Camry is higher than the Ford, but at the same time it is more fuel efficient. A car in a simple configuration is more than a hundred thousand rubles more expensive than a competitor from America, despite the fact that Ford is presented in a fairly rich configuration for this amount.
Ford Mondeo was created for the driver: precise steering, hard brakes, but it lacks power and this is especially felt on the highway after 100 km/h. The interior decoration is not as rich as on the Camry, which is compensated by excellent sound insulation and additional options at a low cost.
Vehicle dynamics indicators
11 liters per 100 km – this is Toyota’s fuel consumption. At the same time, it is filled with AI-95 gasoline. Mondeo, in turn, consumes AI-92 at the same consumption.
That is, it is cheaper to drive a Mondeo.
Mondeo, as they say, is more pleasant to the touch. Ford has a soft ride and better cross-country ability on rough roads. Getting into small holes and depressions is less noticeable. The American sedan picks up speed very quickly, and if necessary, it will stop abruptly. For Toyota, things are more complicated: the car goes through bumps a little more noticeably, picks up speed smoothly and leisurely, and stops sluggishly.
For rear-seat passengers, the Camry remains unrivaled. Mondeo is seriously inferior in this matter. Toyota has a lot of space in the back, and passengers sit comfortably. A person even two meters tall can easily fit there.
Dynamics versus comfort
Both cars are good and decent options for everyday transportation.
But they were created for two types of people - those who value driving dynamics and those who want to drive with increased comfort. It’s difficult to find something in between in these cars, so everyone will have to decide for themselves what they like best.
The new Mondeo has ambitious plans. He sees business class leaders as his main rivals. But what are his chances of pushing aside his venerable competitors? Toyota Camry will help us answer this question.
The mouth rejoices at the large piece. And if it also looks appetizing, then it is doubly tempting. The new Mondeo is really very attractive. In a light suit the flagship Ford looks respectable, in dark clothes it looks stern and elegant. The basic version of Trend does not offer fabulous wealth, but it has everything you need - and what is necessary is precisely in understanding the criteria of the business segment. For 656,082 UAH. you will get a car with an extensive list of options, but only with a 1.6-liter diesel engine and manual gearbox, and such a modification can hardly be considered optimal. There is no particular point in overpaying for the densely stuffed Titanium and Lux, but in Trend, in addition, only a finicky one-and-a-half-cylinder modification of the EcoBoost turbo engine (160 hp) and a not the most powerful diesel engine (2.0 l, 150 hp) are available. . And the optimal two-liter EcoBoost with a power of 203 hp. with a 6-speed automatic transmission is available only in Titanium equipment. But there are already the famous adaptive headlights, parking sensors, roof rails and a TFT display on the dashboard. This set costs 839,270 UAH.
Camry starts immediately with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 180 hp. There is also a 3.5 with an arsenal of 277 hp, but this is a different price order. And with the base engine equipped Comfort Camry costs 666,196 UAH. - very close to the starting Mondeo. Toyota's engine is, of course, more powerful, but in terms of configuration the Ford wins a little from the start - it has dual-zone climate control, cruise, and a start/stop system (for diesel engines). The rest of the configurations are similar. At the price of the Ford Mondeo 2.0 EcoBoost Titanium, Toyota offers the Camry equipped with Prestige (UAH 799,820). This is a car with a leather interior and adaptive lighting with xenon headlights. Here Mondeo has the advantage of an economical but powerful engine, while Camry has a slight advantage in equipment and price.
Looking at the Japanese car, it's hard to believe that numerous Camry buyers were fascinated by its appearance. It seems that the main criteria by which Toyota chooses its clothes is their comfort and neatness. And the slight restyling that happened at the end of last summer is not even a tribute to fashion, but a planned reminder of itself. And the salon is like a childhood favorite, a parent’s apartment familiar to the smallest detail. It has a modern multimedia system, instead of simple instruments - a spectacular optitron panel. But these electronic watches on the dashboard, wide wood trim, soft, leather-upholstered chairs - all this seems to be from the old days.
But it’s comfortable, spacious and the ergonomics are in perfect order. There is no need to strain your brain trying to find a common language with climate control and digital radio. Their management is structured logically and clearly. And for the rear passengers, the Camry has a wide sofa. It can accommodate three adults. It won't be cramped, and there's plenty of legroom, no less than in the Mondeo, which has a 7.5cm longer wheelbase. And the trunk of the “Japanese” is simply huge. However, Ford’s hold is even 10 liters larger, but at the same time it is less practical - it narrows noticeably towards the partition between the trunk and the passenger compartment, which does not allow carrying wide long items.
But for those people who cannot live without electronic gadgets, Mondeo has an excellent offer. The SYNC 2 multimedia system is a mind-blowing chamber, and you can endlessly understand its cunning brains. As for the driver's seat settings and steering wheel adjustments, everything is extremely simple. Visibility and ease of landing are not satisfactory. Drivers who prefer an active drive will certainly appreciate well-profiled seats with good lateral support.
Precision or comfort?
And the Ford drives excitingly. The steering force is small, but very informative. On the highway, the car moves confidently and accurately, not paying attention to the ruts, while at the same time it takes turns deftly, without noticeable rolls. The hum from the tires, although audible in the cabin, is not particularly annoying. The ears do not get tired from the sound of the engine. Although the base 1.5-liter EcoBoost has to work hard. The 203-horsepower engine solves the problem of lack of dynamics, but only with the top-end 2.0 with 240 hp. everything falls into place. Mondeo becomes aggressive and provocative, which, however, is fraught with complications: Ford drives through potholes with sharp edges and speed bumps mercilessly hard.
For our far from ideal roads, the Camry is better suited. Yes, its softer suspension is not ready to support a sporty driver's mood, but on a high-speed straight line the Toyota drives reliably, without straining at all, successfully “smoothing out” holes and potholes. As for her sprinting qualities, they are no worse than those of her young opponent. 181 hp engine enough for all occasions - for a car designed for comfort, in general, you don’t need more. Or is it still necessary? Then prepare 1,204,704 UAH. for Camry 3.5 - and 277 “horses” are at your service.
Which car is best for whom?
Toyota Camry is more suitable for lovers of relaxed driving or for those who move mainly in the passenger seat, appreciate Japanese quality and comfort and are willing to pay for it.
Ford Mondeo is a more affordable brand. An excellent option for those who want to purchase a spacious car for active movement around the city and are not ready to overpay for the brand. Maintenance and insurance of the Mondeo are cheaper than its rival, which undoubtedly makes it even more attractive.

conclusions
Mondeo is a bright, beautiful and high-tech device that can bring pleasure to both aesthetes and fans of an exciting drive. Unfortunately, for the ambitious beginner, these qualities are not enough to seriously intimidate the Camry. The Toyota may look simpler, but in terms of equipment, interior comfort, load capacity and dynamics it is not inferior at all. And at the same time, the Japanese sedan is distinguished by a smooth ride and omnivorous suspension unavailable on the Mondeo. Finally, there is more confidence in naturally aspirated engines in Ukrainian regions. Whatever one may say, Toyota is a relatively conservative, but more versatile car.
Ford Mondeo
Bright, impressive appearance, spacious interior, rich equipment, exciting handling, good sound insulation, large selection of additional options, reasonable cost of ownership
The suspension is harsh, demanding on the quality of roads, and not the most efficient automatic transmission.
