Compared to the previous generation, the exterior of the crossover has undergone a number of changes. The design features a wide radiator grille, a massive front bumper, and angular wheel arches.
The appearance has become more sporty and aggressive, this impression is created thanks to black plastic inserts installed on the bottom of the body.
The interior is equipped with an Entune 3.0 multimedia system. It is controlled via the touch display on the central panel.
The car is five-seater, but due to the updated body the luggage compartment has increased. There are no seven-seat options on the Russian market, even for an additional fee.
A distinctive feature of the fourth Rav was also the increased ground clearance. It is 15 mm higher when compared to the previous generation. The new TNGA-K platform helped to realize this.
The security system has also been updated. It warns of the risk of hitting a pedestrian or colliding with another car. The new technology also recognizes road signs, controls lane departures and automatically switches between low and high beam headlights.

I liked the car: confident acceleration, pleasant taxiing - no complaints, excellent ride quality, roomy. A good family car with an expressive appearance.
The adaptive cruise control was very impressive, allowing the RAV4 V to practically drive itself, controlling the distance to the car in front and keeping itself in its lane. I had never driven a Japanese car before, and in the end: curiosity about the brand, expressive appearance and interest in the hybrid setup won out.
The new 2021 Toyota RAV4 is cool, big and feature-rich. Before that there were a lot of cars and crossovers too. I was pleased with the consumption; if you drive up to 110 km/h, then the consumption is 5.5.
The trunk is large, there is a lot of space for rear passengers, I really like the seat ventilation - it’s just super in summer, the leather is also of good quality. The dashboard is soft, all the rotary buttons are comfortable. The graphics in the monitor are not very good, the navigation is so-so, but I heard there is a company where they change the module in this head unit and everything will be fine, the main screen is a touchscreen, a very small tank of 55 liters and a turbine is really missing.
I tested it and drove about 20 km! The car is like heaven and earth from the last generation! Much softer, more dynamic, consumption has dropped by at least a liter. The car feels bigger and steers smoother. The seat cushion is short, like all Asians! Three modes, depending on which the color of the backlight changes: eco, drive and sport!
The trunk in the new RAF 4 is noticeably larger. Instead of a spare tire, there is a spare tire, but the gaps are such that apparently a spare tire will fit in if you have a wheel and tire! The number on the back door rattles terribly. Audio quality is average. The most advantageous color is white mother-of-pearl (+ RUR 26,000). Active cruise control follows the car in front, steers itself when leaving the lane and returns the car if there are markings.
Plus reads signs and displays a warning about the speed limit on the panel; if exceeded, it turns red. The key fob remained the same, wireless charging appeared on the panel, and when the seat is transformed, the pillows now do not fall down, but only the backrests lie down. There is a new four-camera all-round viewing system. The machine is definitely a plus in terms of robotization and technology development!

The manufacturer has launched production of a crossover with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 146 hp. and fuel consumption of 7.7 liters per 100 km, as well as a more powerful power plant with a volume of 2.5 liters and a performance of 199 hp. The base engine is available paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT, and in the second case, the drive can be either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while with a manual transmission there is only 2WD. The top variant has an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.
The dynamic characteristics of Toyota RAF 4 2021 depend on the specific modification. For models equipped with a two-liter engine and manual transmission, the acceleration time to 100 km/h will be 10.1 seconds, with a CVT – 11.0 seconds, all-wheel drive – 11.2 seconds. The maximum speed for such a motor is 180 km/h. A modification with automatic transmission and all-wheel drive will accelerate the car to “hundreds” in 9.3 seconds, and a powerful diesel engine (this is not supplied to us) will do it in 9.9 seconds.

The new 2021 Toyota RAV 4 model received an expressive design consistent with the FT-AC concept, which was presented in the seventeenth year. The production version is practically no different from the prototype, having received a large radiator grille, narrow headlights and many horizontal lines. All this makes the crossover’s exterior more modern and original. One of the differences between the car is the ability to choose different colors for the body and roof in order to give the car an even more unique look. And on the top of the racks there is a special thin line. With its help, the roof level visually changes depending on the chosen color schemes. The dimensions of the crossover are made optimal for urban conditions:
- width, increased by 10 mm compared to the previous generation, is 1.854 m
- length is 4.595 m (5 mm longer)
- height decreased by 5 mm - to 1.699 m
The maximum crossover wheel size is 19 inches instead of the 18-inch wheels of previous generations. Shortened overhangs and increased approach and departure angles have improved the vehicle's off-road performance. Now its ground clearance is not 20, but 21 cm, which allows you to freely drive on bad roads and off-road.
Salon
The interior of the Toyota Rav 4 2021 in the new body has changed as noticeably as the appearance. And, although the interior has not become as futuristic as some models from other manufacturers (for example, Volkswagen Touareg), it looks quite modern:
- Above the center console is a 7-inch or 8-inch Entune 3.0 touchscreen infotainment system (depending on trim level)
- The panel contains buttons that allow you to control the audio system, change the climate and driving modes
- Finishing materials have noticeably improved, although they are not premium – however, these indicators are sufficient for middle-class crossovers
The seats of the new RAF 4 have lateral support. And there is enough space in the second row for three adult passengers. Although during a test drive, some experts concluded that the knees of people sitting in the rear seats may rest against the backrests located in front.
Among the changes, it is worth paying attention to the increased trunk volume. Now, with the rear seats in the normal position, the luggage compartment holds 547 liters. If the seats are folded, the capacity increases to 1650 liters. Additional functionality for the trunk when placing cargo is provided by fastening nets.
The safety of the driver and passengers is ensured by a huge list of special options. These include a system that prevents collisions with pedestrians, dynamic cruise control, automatic high beams, lane tracking and even reading road signs. The high level of safety is confirmed by passing the NCAP crash test. In it, the RAV4 received 5 stars out of 5 possible.

Comparison with palettes of previous generations
The first generation was distinguished by restrained dark and gray tones. But for lovers of bright things, the manufacturer offered blue and red colors.
This palette was in demand, and it went through all versions of the Rav 4, including the latest generation. Only the color shade changed towards darker or lighter tones.
In the third Rav 4, brown and bronze colors appeared. In the fourth generation, Toyota was painted in a bright dark brown metallic; in the restyled version, there were no changes in the color scheme.
Khaki debuted in the 2021 crossover. The manufacturer has already called its premiere successful, noting that this color is in great demand.
The model received a lot of positive reviews even during its presentation. Buyers noted that the black Rav 4 looks especially attractive.
But the most popular remains the Rav 4 color white mother of pearl. Since the start of car sales in December 2021, more than 40% of customers have purchased it.
The second most popular color with an indicator of 30% was the black color of the Toyota Rav 4. At the same time, the manufacturer notes the great interest of buyers in the silver shade.
Options
3 modifications of the 2019 Toyota Rav 4 were presented in New York:
• Adventure RAV 4; • Limited RAV 4; • XSE Hybrid RAV 4.
From the name of the first configuration it is clear that this is a version for the most active, and accordingly the exterior with pronounced off-road details. These include arch extensions, plastic wheel arches, a special wheel design and, of course, roof rails.

The second modification is Limited, it is positioned as a city model, and it was not for nothing that a girl sat in it at the presentation. The Limited comes with 19-inch wheels and no roof rails or fender flares. The third is the XSE Hybrid, the fattest modification of the 2021 Toyota Rav 4, it comes with many additional options and looks like a Lexus with a Toyota badge.
Price and options
Buyers can choose one of four available trim levels for the crossover with a gasoline engine: Standard, Comfort, Prestige and Prestige Safety.
The hybrid version is provided in the “Active” configuration, close to the gasoline “Standard” one.
The basic version of the car is equipped with:
- heated front seats;
- air conditioner;
- multimedia system;
- electric windows;
- adjustable mirrors;
- fog lights;
- wheel pressure control;
- hill assist system.
Price: 1,756,000 rub.
“Comfort” is additionally equipped with:
- light and rain sensors;
- heated steering wheel;

- aluminum cast wheels;
- climate and cruise control;
- rear view camera.
Price: 1,980,000 rub.
“Prestige” complements the “Comfort” package:
- leather upholstered seats;
- all-wheel drive with rear-wheel torque distribution;
- electric adjustment of the lumbar support of the driver's seat.

“Prestige Safety” adds to the previous configuration:

2021 Model Review
The 2021 Toyota Rav 4 was shown in New York in March of this year. Despite the fact that the crossover is selling like hot cakes, management is releasing a new generation of the bestseller that will go on sale in the spring of 2021.
If the current generation is positioned as an urban crossover, then with the release of the new generation, the management states that the crossover is intended for young and active families, whose time is spent not only in the city, but they can go out into nature, to the mountains, to the beach.
In appearance, it is noticeable that the crossover has become more courageous and respectable in appearance, a kind of compact Land Cruiser for the city. Square wheel arches, a wide grille, and square body lines hint at an off-road spirit. It is worth noting that the exterior also depends on the choice of modification; three of them were shown in New York; we will talk about them in more detail later.
Interior and equipment
The interior of the 2021 Toyota Rav 4 has changed completely, it has become more solid and of better quality, the driver's seat has become more pronounced and sporty. A large display has appeared between the instruments, and on the dashboard there is a display of the Etune 3.0 infotainment system, its dimensions depend on the configuration; there are 7 and 8 inch monitors.

American models will be equipped with a rear view camera, adaptive cruise control, electric handbrake, lane marking monitoring system, automatic braking system, by the way, all this will come as standard.
For an additional fee, it is possible to purchase seat ventilation, a panoramic roof, electric seats, a heated rear sofa, a premium JBL audio system and an electric trunk with sensors under the bumper to open the trunk with a wave of your foot.
Technical stuffing
Toyota Rav 4 2021 moved to the TNGA platform (the same platform as the new Toyota Corolla 2021), due to the platform, body rigidity increased by 57% compared to the previous body.
The suspension was inherited from the previous generation, it is MacPherson strut at the front and a multi-link chassis at the rear. The dimensions of the car have increased slightly, but have grown: the length has increased by 50 mm and is 4655 mm, the width has increased by 10 millimeters, respectively, it has become 1854 millimeters. The wheelbase has increased by 30 millimeters, to 2690 millimeters.
If we talk about the American market (the model was not presented for Russia, it is expected that it will be shown in the fall of 2021), then the engine range has not fundamentally changed. This is a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated unit, which is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and develops a power of about 200 horsepower. We can assume that there will be a 2-liter engine from the previous generation.
Toyota Rav 4 2021 will not impress with cross-country ability like, for example, the new Toyota Fortuner body, but it will definitely please you on a country or winter road.

The popularity of the crossover segment increases the number of possible competitors of the Rav 4. Among them, it is worth noting the following models:

Considering the expected price of the Rav 4 is about $30,000, it is quite capable of becoming a competitor to most models with similar characteristics. The only serious rival is the Qashqai, which constantly ranks first in the ranking of the most popular cars in Europe.

Toyota RAV4 2.5 199 hp
The 2.5-liter A25A-FKS engine is structurally not much different from the “younger” M20A-FKS unit. The maximum power of the power plant is 199 hp. (at 6600 rpm), torque reaches 243 Nm (in the range of 4000-5000 rpm). A new 8-speed automatic transmission works in conjunction with the engine; the drive of this modification is exclusively all-wheel drive.

Options and prices for the 2021 RAV 4
Basic versions of the car are equipped with a 2-liter engine and the following equipment:

- automatic high beam;
- a system capable of recognizing road signs.
Owners of top trim levels can count on electrically adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, a premium audio system with 11 speakers, and an electric tailgate with contactless opening. The interior of these versions will be leather, and one of the options is a panoramic roof with a sunroof.
The estimated cost of the car, which will appear in Russia no earlier than June 2021, ranges from 1.6 to 2.3 million rubles. The same model is expected in Ukrainian car dealerships at about the same time. The estimated cost is in the range of 0.7–1.2 million hryvnia.
