Choosing a crossover is an important matter when you take into account the cost of such a car. Moreover, they now offer a large number of different vehicles. Among such diversity, it is difficult to give preference to a specific model, but you have to decide somehow.

If you want to understand what will be better: Patrol or Land Cruiser 200, our article will help you make the final decision.

  • Comparison of technical characteristics
  • How is Toyota different?
  • A few words about Nissan
  • Interior features
  • Features of power units
  • Passability level
  • Multifunctionality of the device system
  • Small technical tricks
  • What do we have as a result?

Comparison of technical characteristics

If you want to compare the Nissan Patrol and Land Cruiser 200, then you should start with the most important thing - the technical features of the models. It is worth noting that the technical indicators are not too different here. Both vehicles are equipped with a V8 engine, as a result, fords up to 70 centimeters deep do not cause any difficulties in overcoming. In addition, the standard equipment in both cases includes front and rear disc brakes. True, Nissan has more ground clearance (27.5 centimeters compared to 22.5 cm).

But if you are objective when choosing a Nissan Patrol or Land Cruiser 200, then it is worth noting that the first car is somewhat superior to the first. First of all, it’s worth focusing on the engine size. For Nissan it is as much as 5.5 liters, while for Kruzak it is 4.6 (which is also quite powerful). The transmission is also different:

  • Nissan – seven-speed automatic;
  • Land Cruiser - six-speed automatic transmission.

The dynamics of both cars are simply excellent (given their dimensions!), but even here Nissan has overtaken its Japanese competitor. The Patrol takes a hundred in 6.6 seconds, while the Toyota can reach a similar speed in only 8.6 seconds. And the maximum acceleration is 210 and 205 kilometers, respectively.

Video test drive and comparison of Nissan Patrol and Toyota Land Cruiser 200:

As a result, this also affected fuel consumption indicators. The 200 model Land Cruiser is somewhat more economical. In mixed mode, it will require 13.6 liters, while the analogue from the Nissan brand requires as much as 14.6 liters under the same driving conditions.

The Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol are legendary cars in recent Russian automotive history. And not only for automobiles. Since the nineties of the last century, these SUVs have proven themselves to be reliable and strong “rogues”, earning the love of Russians who know first-hand what off-roading is.

Although the love of our compatriots, fishermen and hunters, for classic UAZ cars is strong, the authority of the Nissan Patrol and Toyota Land Cruiser is indisputable in the field of off-road vehicles. Despite the fact that today almost every large company considers it its duty to present to the public something powerful, large and all-wheel drive, on Russian roads and country roads you can find “Patrols” and “Kruzaks” even 30 years old.

Of course, the modern Toyota Land Cruiser 200 and the newest Nissan Patrol, which we are about to test today, cannot be compared with the hard workers of the last century in terms of the wealth of equipment and “dappiness”, beauty of the interior and exterior. These are no longer those uncompromising cars that were not afraid of snow, sand, or crushed stone. Today's SUVs from automotive giants are luxury land cruisers, somewhat reminiscent of expensive yachts in behavior and equipment. Of course, many people buy them to swim in waves of admiration and a sea of narcissism, but we know that these cars have not lost their driving performance. There are roads, there are no roads - what's the difference? In these cars you are unlikely to feel discomfort on any surface.

Today we are testing the newest Nissan Patrol, which appeared on our market just 2 months ago (it was officially presented at the international motor show in Moscow). Our test presented a car of the most complete configuration costing 3,060,000 rubles, which in fact is not much different from the configuration for 2,900,000 rubles, and the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, which has been sold on our market for 3 years. We also have Toyota fully equipped, and such a car on the Russian market costs the same as Nissan Patrol - 2,942,000 rubles.

Against the Nissan Patrol with the only 5.6-liter gasoline engine currently offered in Russia, we deliberately pitted the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 with a 4.5-liter turbo-diesel engine, since in terms of torque and weight these comparisons have a right to exist. Of course, you could say that we should have taken the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 with a gasoline engine. But we did not compare the Land Cruiser 200 with a 4.7-liter gasoline engine and 288 “horses” under the hood with the Patrol. The fact is that this engine, together with the 5-speed gearbox, is already obsolete, having migrated to the “two hundredth” from the Land Cruiser 100, so it is not able to compete with the new creation from Nissan. The new Nissan Patrol has 560 N/m of torque, while our Land Cruiser has 615 N/m. By the way, for the North American market, the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, like its brother Lexus LX 570, is equipped with a 5.7-liter engine (388 hp, 544 N/m). The Japanese, for their country and a number of other markets, install a more advanced 4.6-liter engine with 318 hp.

For a “simpler” version of the Nissan Patrol they will ask for 2,900,000 rubles, while the other will cost the buyer 3,060,000 rubles. What explains the price difference? The fact that the second version includes a multimedia complex with a DVD player for rear passengers, as well as a lane control system, an intelligent braking assistance system, a distance control system and smart cruise control.

The Russian consumer, as always, must be content with not the best products. But it seems that with the release of such an interesting rival from Nissan, the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 will urgently undergo modernization in the near future, because in terms of equipment it is already significantly behind. At the same time, the quality of materials and workmanship of the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 is in no way inferior to the latest Nissan Patrol, and even the touch DVD monitor in the center console is a full inch larger than that of competitors, although Russified navigation with maps of Russia is not installed on all cars. Only for the same money Nissan offers all-round cameras, albeit smaller in diameter than the camera itself.

In addition, the Nissan Patrol has DVD system monitors in the headrests of the front seats, which allows second-row passengers to enjoy watching videos while traveling. Note that this option is not possible in the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, and is not offered by dealers even for an additional fee, and it’s simply a shame not to install xenon, which is fashionable in our country, on the flagship of the brand. I was very pleased with the ergonomics of the Nissan driver's seat. It is very easy to choose the optimal seating position, even for, to put it mildly, oversized drivers. But it’s worth making a reservation that we won’t get that captain’s seat like on the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, which allows you not only to view the surroundings through the tall windows, but also, if desired, by opening the glass of the side door, you can easily control the location of the driver’s wheel. In all classic jeeps this is done intentionally, so that you can lean out of the window at any time and see the direction of movement of the wheel and its behavior, especially in “mud”. From the point of view of driver ergonomics, this is not very convenient, since the seating position is high and inconvenient for high-speed driving. But from the point of view of overcoming off-road conditions and your safety in extreme situations, this is a necessary thing.

It’s more cozy and comfortable to sit in, just like in a passenger car in the Patrol, the feeling of a trolleybus driver disappears, but the glazing is worse, since in the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 the glass is higher, and accordingly there is more visibility. But if you travel long distances, this may not be so convenient - excess glazing gives the feeling of being in an aquarium, and the ban on tinting the front windows makes you think about side insolation on sunny days. But let us emphasize once again that for jeep/off-road conditions this is still better.

Let's compare the appearance. First of all, despite all the similarities, there was a feeling that the Nissan Patrol in some way copies the appearance of the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, this can be seen both in the body lines and in the rear lights, which have something in common. In Russia they somehow don’t write about this, but in the West journalists have already emphasized this similarity several times. But this is normal following the leader. Nissan is trying to catch up with the undisputed leader Toyota Land Cruiser 200 in sales volumes, since sales of the previous generation Nissan Patrol were simply ridiculous. The fight ahead is serious - Toyota is the leader, but Nissan has also improved a lot. For normal competition, we recommend that the Nissan Patrol get a diesel version.

The Land Cruiser is still a successor to the breed of classic thoroughbred SUVs, although more convenient and comfortable, but less utilitarian than the ancestors of the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 or 80. But the Patrol has become even closer to large American crossovers, apparently due to the success of sales in the USA giant Nissan Armada. A large car with off-road qualities, which it partially lost, as it acquired more qualities of a fast, controllable and comfortable car, becoming less noisy. A sort of law of preserving off-road qualities in a larger station wagon - you want more cross-country ability, capacity, comfort and reliability. This fashion is dictated by the USA, the largest car market in the world, but we, with our native open spaces and largeness of soul, want the same thing. Be prepared to sacrifice some comfort when parking and maneuvering in the city. But it’s worth noting that these cars require minimal sacrifices. After all, not every crossover can dash dashingly along curbs and park on any lawn, and respect from fellow drivers on the road is guaranteed. Whether it is good or bad - everyone chooses for themselves. For some, convenience is more important, for others, highway capability and serious claims for cross-country ability.

“The style of the new PATROL is not as sharp and brutal as its predecessor. The softer body shapes look great and make the design more modern, but the car remains masculine and still commands respect on the road.” Taiji Toyota, chief designer of the PATROL model

The interior of the Nissan Patrol, compared to the latest versions, has added luxury. Look - there are a huge number of buttons and adjustments with a memory seat. True, a more informative on-board computer is missing and I would like a normal touchscreen display. There is a lot of space in the back, which is enough for all passengers. In a car for that kind of money, it’s time to start thinking about heating the seats and rear passengers, which is not here, but there is climate control.

The trunk opens with a button. There is a remote control so you don't have to touch the trunk doors at all, which can be useful if the car has been tumbling around in the mud all day and you have the necessary cargo in the back. The trunk is simply huge.

There are no complaints about sound insulation for both cars. It’s immediately clear that a decent amount of work was done on this component and the engine, even at close to maximum speeds, is practically inaudible.

In the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 we are distinguished by its powerful locomotive traction and, despite the same dimensions and weight of 2.7 tons, when we switch to the Patrol we feel that the car feels lighter and steers more accurately. In terms of speed capabilities, the Nissan Patrol matches its stated ambitions (acceleration to 100 in less than 7 seconds). Yes, of course, such a huge SUV will not have the handling characteristics of the BMW X5. But, nevertheless, for such a large car, the handling is intelligible. Nissan engineers managed to avoid the “weakness” of the steering, which is facilitated by 20-size wheels (low-profile tires) and a fully independent suspension. On the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, the rear axle is a beam that does not have a very positive effect on steering accuracy. The high-speed snake and “moose test” are clearly not his strong point, although, according to Toyota engineers, this scheme is more reliable. The situation can be partially corrected by installing 20-22 size wheels; you will have to pay for this not only in the literal sense, but also in comfort on the broken Ural roads. In spite of everything, the owner of the “cruiser” will not be left with the feeling of moving on a real tank, and popular rumor ascribes “indestructibility” to the suspensions of the Land Cruiser family, quite deservedly.

The Nissan Patrol has been equipped with a lot of premium elements. It’s not for nothing that the world premiere of this SUV took place in the capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi, in February 2010. Much of what this Japanese has will appeal to residents of the Urals who willingly buy powerful SUVs. What exactly? These and the much-loved xenon headlights are already in the “base”. Although we do not live in the desert conditions and sweltering heat of the UAE, we note that the car seats are not only heated, but also ventilated. Remember last summer - we could have used them! There is a very decent sounding radio from BOSE with many speakers. Let's note the interior, which can be transformed into a flat floor, turning this giant into an apartment or camping on wheels. Despite the fact that the steering column is not equipped with wood-effect inserts, which are so fashionable nowadays and which are found in the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, the steering wheel on the Nissan Patrol has special sporty “bumps”, but is very functional and fits perfectly in the hands. I don’t want to let go of this steering wheel even for a second. I didn’t really like the clumsy playful red button (Start/Stop) - the keyless entry button. And the climate system, a la Nissan Almera, smacks of cheapness, does not fit into the overall expensive concept of the front panel. Most likely, these are echoes of unification and the desire to save money on everything, which even the best representatives of the Nissan automobile family are still guilty of.

The Land Cruiser 200 turbodiesel provides locomotive traction literally from 1.5-2 thousand revolutions, which is an absolute advantage of modern diesel engines. It’s a pity that this agility subsides somewhat when the car accelerates over 110 km/h. This is inherent in cars sold in Russia: the power of cars with diesel engines offered by our dealers was underestimated from 286 to 235 horsepower, due to the Japanese fear of Russian diesel fuel. They reduced the pressure on the injectors, and installed the injectors themselves with wider nozzles. Due to this, the power has decreased, and yet it plays the main role at high speeds. Torque remained virtually unchanged. At low and medium speeds, the cars behave the same. And at high levels, the Russian version of the Land Cruiser 200 loses significantly, and you feel a lack of power. We don’t see this on the Patrol; it pulls quite smoothly, thanks to the 7-speed automatic transmission and a fairly large engine capacity. Excellent traction already from 2 thousand. rpm, elastic and very predictable acceleration without failures.

Most likely, after the inevitable modernization, spurred on by Nissan, Toyota will offer decent gasoline power units, which will improve acceleration characteristics. Acceleration of the Land Cruiser 200 with a 4.7-liter gasoline engine is 9.5 seconds to hundreds. With a 4.5-liter turbodiesel – 8.2 seconds to 100 kilometers per hour. Nissan Patrol accelerates to hundreds in 6.6 seconds.

Toyota will probably have to improve the braking system at the same time, which, in our opinion, is insufficient for such a heavy and powerful car. Let's be honest - with the same weight, Nissan's brainchild has more grippy brakes. This is confirmed by the dimensions of the effective working surfaces of the brake discs of the compared cars.

All systems and electronic gadgets are similar in many ways - ABS and EBF. Plus a new product - the kinetic stabilization system (KDSS). Both the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 and the Nissan Patrol have it. It protects body roll and works perfectly on both cars, the system is certainly useful, a huge improvement compared to cars of previous generations.

I was pleasantly surprised by the fuel consumption of the Nissan Patrol, which is moderate for such a ship, slightly more than the stated passport 20 liters per 100 km in mixed operating mode; the heavy fuel consumption of the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 engine was simply pleasing, about 15 liters per 100 km in the same mixed mode. The obvious savings in operating costs are spoiled only by the policy of Toyota dealers; to maintain the maintenance guarantee, you need to stop by every 5 thousand. kilometers, at Nissan every 15 thousand km.

Plus, the Nissan Patrol is equipped with a hydraulic roll suppression system HBMC (Hydraulic Body Motion Control System), which minimizes body sway and tilt when maneuvering, changing lanes on the highway, and also ensures the stability of the car off-road; the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 is also equipped with a similar system.

Interesting mechanics: - Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) - VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) - KDSS (Kinetic Suspension Stabilization System)

When operating the Nissan Patrol on severe off-road conditions, the electronic all-wheel drive system is very different from the system on the Toyota Land Cruiser 200. Nissan has an upgraded intelligent all-wheel drive system with a choice of one of 4 driving modes:

1. with front-wheel drive disconnected 2. automatic connection of all-wheel drive through an electronically controlled center coupling. 3. with rigid connection of all wheels 4. rigid connection of all wheels with downshift engaged.

In addition, for the most problematic areas, the rear differential can be locked. The driver has at his disposal the electronic all-wheel drive programs “highway, snow, stones, sand-mud” that are now fashionable and used on many premium SUVs.

At Toyota we see classic permanent all-wheel drive. The usual symmetrical center differential used on previous models has been replaced by a self-locking TORSEN with a 40x60 torque distribution between the axles with the ability to connect a de-multiplier on severe off-road conditions and “hard center locking”.

Comparing these 2 systems, we note that knowing about the operation of similar systems in Nissan of other models, we assume that on heavy off-road conditions electronic gadgets will certainly help, but in the event of a prolonged assault, overheating of the systems will most likely not be avoided. Protecting the expensive and complex drive, the electronic systems will fail (at the most necessary moment according to the law of inevitability) and save faster than the units of the Land Cruiser 200. The price of this is increased fuel consumption (especially on cars with a gasoline power unit), but who thinks about such trifles buying a cruiser.

Land Cruiser 200 is an SUV with a time-tested all-wheel drive system. On the Patrol it is more modern and advanced, but is more suitable for public roads, while the Land Cruiser 200 suspension is adapted to situations where the road is bad or completely absent. But this is also a minus - a more reliable and classic suspension design allows you to feel more confident off-road, but on public roads it does not allow you to boast of ideal handling (“moose test”, snake movement). In such tests, the Land Cruiser exhibits rather weak control and a reluctance to make sudden movements, so it is difficult for the driver to control the implementation of some complex elements. The new Nissan Patrol is more driver-oriented.

We drove it a bit in off-road-like conditions. The suspension absorbs bumps well, and even at high speed you don’t feel them. The car does not throw around when turning, and it stands quite firmly. But still, there is swaying on longitudinal and transverse bumps, so it is better to reduce speed before them.

Due to the fact that the new Nissan Patrol is more driver-friendly and more manageable, dynamic, electronically rich, it is more of a road car (the old Patrol was a classic SUV), and now it is more of a large comfortable off-road vehicle (to please the American and Arab markets, where the company sees the implementation of the Nissan Patrol).

But the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 still remained a classic rogue and SUV. It was created specifically for comfortable and fast off-road travel, which is still preferable for most of Russia. Look at the sales - so far, the Land Cruiser is favored by its popularity among Russians and residents of the Middle East.

In the end, we note that both competitors showed themselves in all their glory. Of course, today both cars are leaders in their class and leave competitors in their segment far behind. If a few years ago Toyota’s dominance did not raise any questions, today Nissan has come as close as possible to the leader by making a comfortable SUV. But, as often happens, in pursuit of comfort and visual flashiness, the company sacrificed some of its off-road qualities, which makes the Land Cruiser the segment leader in off-road driving. On the other hand, if Nissan equips its car with a diesel engine, then Toyota will have to work hard to keep its competitor from taking first place. We should probably wait for the release of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300. For us, motorists, such competition is only good - it will force manufacturers to more actively introduce new products and not raise prices. Well, if you ask us which car you should choose now, we will answer - listen to yourself. If you need to frequently travel off-road, storm mountains and forests, swamps and gravel, then the Land Cruiser 200 will certainly be more suitable for you. If off-roading for you means mud after the rain, and you spend all your time on the highway, then the Nissan Patrol should attract your attention. In any case, both cars deserve to be among those cars that are commonly called market leaders.

How is Toyota different?

Before you find out which is better: Nissan Patrol or Land Cruiser 200, it is worth assessing the features of each vehicle. And we will begin our description with a representative of the Toyota automaker. We can say with confidence that almost everyone has a dream of purchasing just such a car. Especially if we are talking about the presentable Land Cruiser 200, or at least the RAV4.

It will also be interesting to read: Scoda Yeti: technical specifications and photos of the crossover

Until now, manufacturers are proud of their brainchild, and for good reason. After all, both the exterior and interior of the car are simply perfect; any changes can damage the decor.

This car model is in an aura of mysticism - probably, if you improve the vehicle by adding a little handling and comfort, as well as equipping it with independent suspension and a number of other fashionable elements, it may lose its charm.

On the other hand, even now the car behaves just fine. The car turned out to be strong, reliable, it can easily overcome almost any off-road conditions. This is confirmed by a lot of ratings, where Toyota has practically no worthy competitors among other SUVs.

A few words about Nissan

But not only the second car has strengths in the battle between Nissan Patrol and Land Cruiser 200. In general, the process of creating the model itself is most likely due to the fact that the automaker did not have a worthy competitor to the LC 200.

As a result, the new Patrol is larger and more massive than its previous counterparts. The car is distinguished by its monumental interior. At the same time, all design decisions related to the design of the body do not in any way affect the spaciousness of the cabin.

Technical Tricks

Do not forget that every SUV has to spend a lot of time within the city limits, where the driver will be assisted by systems that help him drive in these conditions. For example, the Nissan Patrol equipment includes a very useful feature in the form of an overhead view of the street, which is displayed on the control panel monitor. This upgrade is possible thanks to the installation of 4 surveillance cameras around the perimeter, offering views from all sides. This quality becomes very useful when driving a large vehicle in heavy traffic on busy city streets. This quality is also very convenient when parking in limited spaces.

The Land Cruiser is equipped with four-season climate control, which has a lot of convenient adjustments that allow you to create a comfortable microclimate. The additional option of heated seats also seems to be a very useful feature, especially in winter.

Interior features

It is difficult to choose between the Nissan Patrol or Toyota Land Cruiser 200 in terms of roominess and spaciousness inside. At first glance it may seem that the LC 200 is smaller, as it is more compact in appearance. At the same time, both according to experts and reviews from owners, the driver and passengers feel comfortable in both cars.

In the Nissan Patrol, the rear seats are slightly higher than the Cruiser seats. At the same time, there is a full-fledged third row that can be folded, which significantly increases the capacity. At the same time, in the Kruzak the seats are moved to the sides. In fact, the LC 200 lags behind when it comes to luggage space. But he covers this card with the fact that it is better to sleep in a Toyota. This is especially true for fishermen and hunters. You won’t have to curl up there when you sleep; there’s plenty of space. In addition, the Cruiser's trunk is equipped with a hinged door, which allows you to transport long items such as skis.

Whatever model the future car owner chooses, the vehicle will be equipped with a spacious refrigerator between the front seats. But in Nissan, the lid of the device is bi-directional, so even passengers sitting in the back can use the refrigerator.

Continuing to choose: Nissan Patrol or Toyota Land Cruiser 200, it is worth emphasizing that the latter car is equipped with a number of newfangled features, including:

  • ventilation of the front seats;
  • heated steering wheel;
  • four-zone climate control.

It will also be interesting to read: Ford Ecosport or Hyundai Creta, which is better?

At the same time, passengers can also control such climate control. Rival Nissan is not far behind. Among the advantages of the model are adaptive cruise control, as well as monitors built into the headrests.

In fact, it is impossible to objectively assess which is better: Patrol or Land Cruiser . True, for lovers of conservatism, a second car is suitable, and there is more comfort and coziness there. But Nissan is distinguished by its elaborate curves and massive trim, which adds originality to it.

Differences in configuration

The latest version of the Nissan Patrol was created by the developers with the goal of surpassing the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 in most of the available SUV characteristics. As a result, the car was created with superior dimensions in order to look more impressive than its competitor at the start. In addition, it has a large mass of 160 extra kilograms, and its engine power exceeds its opponent by 96 horsepower. As a result, the Land Cruiser turned out to be a smaller model compared to the new Nissan model.

The situation was somewhat corrected by a new wave of restyling, as a result of which the updated Toyota acquired new bumpers, as well as a different shape of the radiator grille. In addition, changes affected the turn signal indicators, as well as rear-view mirrors. More chrome elements appeared in the body decoration, and the front and rear optics acquired LED elements. Although the general appearance of the car has retained its outline, after restyling the model received a more modern appearance.

The off-road equipment of the updated Land Cruiser has also acquired new qualities thanks to the Crawl Control system, which has the ability to maintain a set speed without driver intervention. Now the SUV has 5 speed modes, and cameras have also appeared that allow all-round visibility. This quality not only allows you to better control the situation on the road while driving, but can also provide assistance during parking.

  • New 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 – Luxury in the details

The latest Nissan Patrol model has not yet been restyled, retaining the same features acquired back in 2010. However, the model occupies a more attractive position in pricing, having a cost of 2,995 thousand rubles versus 3,325 thousand rubles for the updated version of the Land Cruiser.

Features of power units

We have already compared: Nissan Patrol or Land Cruiser 100 in terms of technical characteristics, but now we will dwell on this in more detail . Powerful engines allow Nissan to stand alongside modern sports cars, because even they do not always reach a hundred in 6.6 seconds.

In principle, you can’t want more from such an engine. In the case of the Cruiser, everything is somewhat simpler, because the engine volume is almost a liter smaller, and the horsepower is a hundred percent lower. On the other hand, we have two options:

  • Nissan is more powerful, faster, faster;
  • The LC 200 is more economical (for example, to feed the Patrol you will need about 25-30 liters of gasoline when driving around the city).

The engine is paired exclusively with an automatic gearbox, while the transmission also has a manual mode.

True, it is important to say that Toyota is equipped with a much more effective braking system. Despite this, when braking, the car leans forward, and in the case of the Patrol, it also tilts to the side.

For many car enthusiasts, the choice between Toyota Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol is obvious, since the latter option has an independent suspension. But in practice, driving both vehicles is not so easy, although you can completely forget about various road irregularities - even large holes and potholes are easily absorbed by the suspension.

The steering is also somewhat superior to the Toyota. It completely allows you to forget about all vibrations, and the feedback with directional stability is at the same level. The Nissan Patrol has its own trump card - it has practically no lateral roll, even on fairly sharp turns.

Passability level

If we were talking about the conditions of Africa, where everything is covered with sand, then there could be no doubt about the leader - Nissan would have overtaken its competitor in 10 minutes. At the same time, in Russia it is unlikely to find a track entirely made of sand. The main problem is mud, swampy areas, and snow. However, the Patrol does not have a “dirt” program, although there are many others designed for off-road driving.

It will also be interesting to read: Mercedes Benz ML 63 AMG accelerates to hundreds in 4.8 seconds

Multifunctionality of the device system

But here it’s easy to compare cars. Although the Land Cruiser 200 has great functionality that allows you to overcome off-road conditions, it is not so easy for the driver to reach the control system. Switching buttons quickly is difficult, especially if you rarely have to do it. But Nissan’s two-stage washer, which is responsible for all the Off-Road systems present, is very convenient to use.

Even though the ground clearance of the Toyota is lower, it copes better with the corners of the road. On the other hand, even if the bottom of the Patrol crosses out the road surface, it is almost impossible to damage the car in this way, since all systems are hidden and located much higher than the frame.

Among the main disadvantages of vehicles, it is worth noting poor cross-country ability on soft ground. The cars are massive, so they sag easily. An inexperienced driver may drive the vehicle so far that he will have to use a powerful tractor to get it out.

Exterior

Both cars are large, like the entire crossover segment. If you compare the Japanese Patrol and Land Cruiser, it becomes clear that the first car is larger than its competitor:

  1. Body length is 5140 mm, the rival’s is 4950 mm.
  2. The wheelbase is 3075 mm, the other car is 2850 mm.
  3. Because of this, the mass of SUVs differs. The Nissan is heavier – 2750 kg, the Toyota is smaller – 2415 kg.

There are also differences in appearance. The Land Cruiser uses chrome in the body. LEDs are installed in the headlights. The bumper has a light grille. The body is more inclined (height 1950 mm) than the Nissan (1934 mm). It's almost vertical. Tires differ from car to car. Land Cruiser has 285/60 R18. Patrol – 275/60 R20.

What do we have as a result?

So, if you want to choose a Patrol or Land Cruiser 100 (or the 200th model), then it’s difficult to come up with an unambiguous result. After a thorough assessment of the cars, we can say that the Patrol is the spiritual successor of Toyota, but it surpasses its counterpart solely in terms of dynamics and cross-country ability. But in terms of comfort and controllability, the cars are on the same level.

As a rule, the Toyota LC 200 is preferred by people who value classics and a smooth ride more, but the Nissan is an excellent choice for those who love fast driving, fast acceleration and original decor.
