The battery charge of the Toyota Rav 4 key is low, what to do?

Let's start with, perhaps, the simplest option - a car key with buttons for opening/closing doors and trunk. These are the standard devices that most domestic car owners use.

You will know that the battery in the key is dead and needs to be replaced when you try to open the door and get into the car: when you press the button, nothing will happen - the door will remain closed. Non-standard situation, isn't it?! You are unlikely to be able to quickly find the necessary working battery, but you have to go.

If you are the owner of a less than up-to-date, tech-laden car with a conventional ignition switch, you're in luck! At least you can get into the car interior without additional tricks. The same goes for starting the engine. True, this can be difficult to do in practice: due to infrequent use, the lock cylinders on the doors “sour” and cease to perform their functions. For this reason, they need to be periodically lubricated and the functionality of the locks checked.

On this topic

If there is no abnormal alarm system on your car, you will be able to use the car without any problems. The standard alarm will consider opening the door with a metal key as unauthorized entry into the car interior - the siren will go off. But there is no need to worry about this - it will turn off when you start the car.

Key fob and push button start

Owners of cars with a key fob and a push-button engine start system are a little less lucky. However, they shouldn’t worry too much about the suddenly dead battery in the key. The algorithm of actions differs slightly. The main trouble will come from the push-button engine start system.

On this topic

Manufacturers of cars with key fobs, of course, have provided for the possibility of sudden failure of the battery. To get into the car, you need to remove the key blade from the key fob and, in the same way as in the first case, mechanically open the door. Difficulties may arise, perhaps, with finding the lock cylinder (on many modern cars they are carefully hidden). But to start the engine, additional knowledge is required.

It's best to refer to your car's manual. It probably describes the algorithm of actions in the event of an emergency with the key.

The peculiarity of the key fob is that it is constantly connected to the vehicle's electronic security system. When the battery is dead, this connection is disrupted. Even if the door can be opened, the car will not be able to recognize the key: the immobilizer will not give the command to start the engine.

On this topic

On most machines this problem is easily solved. It is necessary to insert the key fob into a special connector, which, as a rule, is located in close proximity to the start-stop button. The immobilizer sensor located in the key does not require additional power. It is important to simply bring it to the reading coil.

Toyota Camry v50 key

Car enthusiasts periodically face situations when the battery is discharged. If you find that there is no charge in the battery on your Toyota Camry, it needs to either be charged or replaced. In the latter case, you should take a responsible approach to choosing a new battery.

How to choose the right battery

Types of batteries by terminal location

For Toyota Camry, Asian standard batteries are used; batteries of the following brands are mainly used: Japanese Panasonic, Yuasa, FB, Varta, including the Korean Rocket. A battery from the Turkish manufacturer Mutlu is also suitable. In some cases, it is possible to install batteries from European manufacturers.

Batteries for Camry come in two different sizes: 261x175x223 mm and 230x175x223 mm for 70 Ah and 60 Ah. The drive is located in the engine compartment at the level of the left headlight. It is worth paying attention to the fact that the car battery on Toyota has a positive polarity (reverse).

You should also choose batteries that were recently manufactured, because even when not in use, the charge weakens. You should not take a battery with a capacity less than the standard one, it is better to install one with a larger one, also with inrush current ratings.

Types of batteries

A good car battery comes with a long warranty, from 3 to 5 years, which speaks volumes about its quality. You should not choose a battery with a shorter warranty period.

What kind of battery is on the Camry XV40

The new Toyota v40 that left the factory has a standard battery from the Japanese manufacturer Panasonic 80D 26L MF.

The standard battery for a Camry 40 with an engine capacity of 2.4 liters has the following indicators: battery capacity – 65Ah, 12V, starting current – 600A, dimensions – 260/173/220.

Recommended batteries for Camry 40 with an engine capacity of 3.5 liters should have the following characteristics and dimensions: capacity - 75Ah, starting current - 650A, dimensions - 261x175x220.

When batteries with smaller battery characteristics are installed in a car, the load on the engine increases. Batteries that are not suitable for the vehicle will shorten its service life.

Akb on xv50

The Toyota Camry v50 with a 3.5 liter engine is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 75Ah and a starting current of 630A.

Good looking

Recommended car batteries for Camry V50 2.0 should have the following characteristics and dimensions: capacity – 70Ah, starting current – 630A, dimensions – 261x175x220.

Drives for Camry V50 2.5 must have the following characteristics and dimensions: capacity – 75Ah, starting current – 700A, dimensions – 260x175x220.

Pay attention to the following battery parameters:

  • The voltage should be standard and should be 12 volts. Please check this rating before purchasing, the seller can test it with a load fork.
  • The battery capacity must be no lower than that of the factory battery. For v50 the capacity should not be lower than 75Ah.
  • The starting current must also meet the requirements of this model. Camry requires a battery with at least 600A starting current.

Battery device

Choose a car battery based on the battery parameters that are optimal for your car model.

Energy storage devices with lower performance ratings will reduce the life of your vehicle. And if the characteristics are too high, then it will not only be more expensive, but may also negatively affect the performance of your car.

  • The most suitable battery for Camry v50 is Totachi 80D26L.
  • My car has a Tenax battery, what kind do you have?
  • If this and other recommended batteries are not on sale, select a battery with the seller, based on the nominal parameters required for your car.

Features of battery operation

For a long service life of a car battery, it is necessary to constantly check its condition, recharge it in time and restore the volume of distilled water. As you recharge the battery, you should periodically monitor the charge current; its value should not be higher than the required value, otherwise the active mass of the plates will collapse.

  1. Pulse battery charger
  2. Before the onset of cold weather and frost, it is necessary to charge the battery for 12 hours to prepare it for critical factors.
  3. The most dangerous factor for the energy source is starting the engine at low air temperatures. To reduce damage to your vehicle and its internals, you should:
  • Before the onset of cold weather, change summer oil to winter oil. High-quality oil will help protect your car from frost.
  • Check in advance and replace the spark plugs in your Toyota with new ones to prevent problems on a frosty winter morning.
  • During periods of severe frost, it is better to remove the battery from the car and keep it in a cool place at home.
  • Recharge the battery for more than 12 hours in anticipation of cold weather, without waiting for the first frost.
  • Check the condition of the fuses, wiring, alternator and starter. Make sure they don't need replacing.
  • During frosts, first of all, crank the engine by turning on the starter briefly, and then try to start the engine. Such measures will help lubricate the channels with oil.
  • Such actions will definitely help to start the engine during frost and maintain the condition of the battery.
  • Click on the picture to enlarge
  • If the car battery charging light on a Camry periodically lights up, this may indicate that current is not supplied from the generator to the on-board network and the battery's energy reserve is being consumed.
  • The calcium battery in a Camry may not be charged properly if there is poor contact in the negative starter wire that goes from the battery to the engine.

Rules for replacing a battery on a Toyota:

  • When removing and installing the battery, the door locks may spontaneously lock if the car has an alarm system installed. Therefore, never leave the key in the ignition at this time.
  • When removing the battery, you must first remove the negative terminal.
  • When removing the battery, all settings are deleted from the on-board computer's memory, so remove it only if necessary.

An emergency alarm has been installed

Non-standard alarms allow you to open and close doors, as well as start the engine using its own key fob, which, of course, also needs power. It is these devices that can cause much more mischief than standard keys.

After installing a non-standard alarm system, this system also begins to control the standard immobilizer. In other words, you can open the car with a regular, standard key, which remains operational, but you still won’t be able to turn off the alarm and start the car with it. Exactly until you install a new battery in the emergency signaling key fob or unlock the start using the valet button.

On this topic

There is a secret valet button on all alarms. It is important to know its location and the algorithm for disabling your particular alarm. Usually the button is located in close proximity to the interior fuse block, or even placed on the dashboard or console. In order not to listen to the heart-rending sounds of the siren, the first thing you can do is open the hood and cut off its power wires, which, as a rule, are connected directly to the battery terminals.

Selector lever sensor

In order for the car to understand what the driver wants from it, an automatic transmission selector position sensor is installed in the box. It transmits data to the box controller, is responsible for turning on the reverse signals and controls the starter drive. As a rule, it is located on the shaft of the automatic transmission lever.

A faulty automatic transmission selector sensor leads to incorrect operation of the box (it turns on emergency mode) or the car does not move at all.

If the “HOLD” indicator lights up on the dashboard, the sensor is faulty. Common reasons:

  1. The contact wires are worn out. The sensor wiring is too close to the automatic transmission selector. Constantly switching modes deforms the already thin wires.
  2. After removing the box, the sensor contact was poorly connected or not connected at all (forgot, and this happens).
  3. There is no crankcase protection - there is no protection of the sensor from dirt and water. It is enough to drive through a small puddle so that water gets on the contacts.

What caused the malfunction in a particular case will be determined by computer diagnostics and visual inspection.

How to revive a battery

Without knowing the code for the valet button, not knowing how to start a car with a start-stop button and not being able to buy a new battery, you can find yourself in a really difficult situation, the only way out of which will be to resuscitate the existing battery.

First you need to remove it from the key or key fob, understand what voltage it should produce, and only then act.

The easiest way to revive a battery is to heat it properly. This can be done in all available ways. The main thing is not to overdo it (with extreme heating, batteries explode).

You can use another “old-fashioned” method: give the battery a good tap to “invigorate” the filler and thereby intensify the chemical reactions.

On this topic

Finally, you can try to recharge the battery from another power source with a similar voltage (usually 12, 3, 1.5 or 6 volts). This can be done with a couple of wires and sleight of hand. It is important to remember that when charging from a powerful current source, the battery will heat up. The battery can only be recharged by briefly touching the contacts, and most importantly, by strictly observing the correct polarity.

Finally, if you have an alternative power source with the required voltage, the voltage can be applied directly to the key or key fob, after first removing the battery from it.

However, it is better to prepare for unexpected developments in advance. Make it a rule to carry a new battery for your key or key fob in a protective package in the glove compartment. Modern batteries have a long shelf life and can really help you out many years after purchase.

Probably, every driver has had to find himself in a situation where attempts to open the car using a key fob ended in failure. As a rule, the low battery charge of the Toyota Camry key is to blame. And here many car enthusiasts fall into a stupor, not knowing what to do in such a situation.

Someone even starts calling the nearest service station to call specialists and pay them a substantial amount. And this despite the fact that even a person who does not have special technical knowledge can perform the operation of replacing the battery. To do this, you just need to know some nuances, which will be discussed in our article.

Automatic transmission selector replacement

After cleaning, the opposite situation may occur - the box will continue to act up. If the malfunction indicator on the dashboard still lights up, you will have to go to a car service center and trust the professionals. Using computer diagnostics, the mechanic will identify and, if possible, eliminate errors.

Replacing the selector is a last resort. It is used when repairs are impossible or there are no spare parts to replace. For example, in the event of a mechanical breakdown of the lever, its mounting base (the pin is metal, but if desired, it can be bent or broken).

For older cars, you can find a used selector. Buying a new one, installing it and setting it up will cost the car owner quite a lot.

Step-by-step instruction

Now let's move on to step-by-step instructions for replacing the power supply. But taking into account the fact that the key fobs on the Toyota Camry v55 are structurally different from those used on the v50 model, replacing the battery in the key of these cars is performed differently. Therefore, we will divide our story into 2 parts.

In the above photo, the key for v55 is on the left, and the key for v50 is on the right.

Toyota Camry v50

If you turn the key fob with the logo facing you, positioning it as expected, then on the surface of the right side you can find a button with the inscription Push. You need to click on it.

If you hold it in this position, the emergency key can be easily pulled out of the housing.

Upon careful examination, you will notice that its tip has a specific shape. Thanks to this, the key fob can be disassembled without any additional tools, which means it can be done even while sitting in the car.

We insert the key into the slot made specifically for this purpose.

Now it needs to be rotated along the axis to disengage the upper and lower parts.

As a result, we get two halves of one device.

The battery is closed with an insulating cover, which is fixed with special stoppers.

To gain access to the battery, they must be disengaged. This can be done using a key. Removing the cover reveals the battery.

Sometimes the battery sits very tightly in its socket, so there is a special cutout into which a screwdriver or the same key is inserted. Using them as a lever, the battery can be easily removed.

Installation of a new element is carried out in the reverse order, and therefore we do not consider it necessary to describe this operation in detail.

Toyota Camry v55

To change the battery in the key of this model, you will have to follow a different algorithm.

On the v55 key fob, the emergency key lock is located on the back wall. It is made in the form of a toggle switch that moves horizontally.

Having changed its position, we take out the auxiliary key.

We insert it into the niche from which it was removed and make rotational movements.

This will help separate the front from the back.

We put the first one aside, and we will continue to work with the second. There is a board on it, usually green. You need to pry it off with a thin bladed screwdriver, lift it, grab it with your hands and pull it out.

Turning the board over, we will see the battery that has not yet been replaced.

To pull it out of its normal location, use the same screwdriver to pry up one edge and lift it. Then the battery is pulled out by hand.

All that remains is to unpack the new battery and put it in its rightful place. We perform assembly in reverse order. The operation is considered fully completed only after checking the functionality of the key fob.

In conclusion, I would like to say that it is not always possible, even if you know the correct sequence of actions to replace the battery, to do everything as it should. Therefore, if there are even slight doubts that everything will work out properly, it is better to ask specialists to perform the operation.

Guide to replacing the battery in a Toyota key fob.

For some reason your Toyota key fob is not working. Most likely, the battery in the key fob itself is dead and needs to be replaced. It would seem that there is nothing simpler; you need to take and replace the battery in the key. But, don’t rush, friends, as it turns out, many motorists today do not know how to change the battery (battery) in a car key fob. Friends, our online publication invites you to study a detailed guide along with photographs, which will help many drivers who do not know how to independently and easily change the battery in the key fob of your car.

The most unpleasant thing here is that if the battery in the key fob runs out, then without remote access to the car you will not be able to open its doors, and at the same time the trunk, and also, depending on the Toyota model, you will not be able to open the car door even with the one you have. you with the key, since your car is guarded at this moment. But even if you somehow open the car door with a key, you will not be able to start it in 90% of cases, since the anti-theft protection system in the car will not be disabled (not in all car models).

Friends, our guide to replacing the battery in Toyota car key fobs has been specially prepared for owners of the following Toyota car models, namely: 2003 - 2009 Toyota 4Runner (pictured as an example) and onwards, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 , 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2021 - model range of Camry, Corolla, Avalon, Solara, Celica, Cressida, Matrix, MR2, Supra, Tercel, Paseo cars , Prius, Sera, Starlet, Venza, Yaris, Echo, FJ Cruiser, Highlander, Hilux, Land Cruiser, Previa, RAV4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, T-100, Tundra, Lexus IS, GS, SC, CT 200h, HS 250h, ES, LS, RX, GX, LX.

Tools needed to replace the battery:

Small flathead screwdriver.

Note. If your Toyota key fob still does not work after replacing the battery, then you may need to reprogram (i.e. reprogram) it for your car. Sometimes when replacing batteries and (or) other batteries of electronic electrical modules, such replacement can lead to clearing the memory of electronic devices.

Well, to program the key fob in a new way, you need to contact your car’s operating manual or a car service center.

So that you can easily and independently replace the battery in the key fob, we suggest studying and viewing detailed instructions with photographs, which are shown as an example on the key fob for a Toyota 4Runner, which was produced from 2003 to 2009.

Toyota car key fob buttons

Removing the ring from the keychain

To open a Toyota key fob, you must first remove it from the metal ring on which the key is held. The key fob for the Toyota 4Runner 2003 (pictured) has: an unlock button, a lock button and a trunk release button.

Open the key fob housing.

At the bottom of the key fob there is a special small slot into which you can insert a flat-head screwdriver or a coin to open the remote control housing.

Opened key fob body

Remove the old battery from the remote control.

After you have divided the key fob body into two parts, you need to be careful, because the buttons may fall out of the remote control, since after opening the key fob there is nothing holding them.

Opening the case you will see a battery (cell), namely: CR2016 or CR2032 (coin-cell battery). It needs to be replaced. Depending on your model and year of manufacture, you can replace the CR2016 battery with a new CR2032 battery (this is not possible in all car models, as some remote controls do not allow this due to their thickness).

What is the difference between these two batteries? The CR2032 battery is twice as thick as the CR2016 battery and holds a charge twice as long and lasts twice as long. The diameter of these batteries is the same. Therefore, remember, if the remote control for your alarm allows you to install a CR2032 battery (cell), then we definitely advise you to install it instead of CR2016.

To remove the battery (cell) from the key fob, you can use a small screwdriver to slightly lift the battery on one side.

Battery (cell) CR2016 in a key fob from a Toyota car

Installing a new battery in the key fob

Keychain with a new battery installed.

After you have removed the battery from the key fob, you need to replace it with a new one.

Closing the key fob body

Battery replacement completed

We check the operation of the remote control.

To close the key fob in its original position, you need to place the lower part of the remote control on a flat surface, and then press its upper part on top. If you try to connect these two parts by lifting them together at the same time, the internal parts of the remote control may simply fall out of the key fob body.

After snapping the two parts of the key fob, check all the buttons at once to make sure for yourself that everything works as before.

If the key fob still does not function, then your car remote control needs to be reprogrammed. To do this, you need to contact a specialized technical center or do it yourself using the instruction manual for your vehicle.

Good afternoon everyone. There is a problem: the battery in the remote control for the car quickly runs out, the original one lasted two years. I installed the Energizer and the battery lasted for a month, then I bought the cheapest one and it lasted for a week. Does anyone think what the problem might be? I don’t know whether it was a coincidence or a coincidence, but the batteries began to fail quickly after the alarm was installed.

Replacing the key battery on a Camry

A Camry key fob is not only useful, but also a necessary addition to the car. With its help, access to the car is facilitated, protection against unauthorized persons entering the interior; in its absence, it is impossible to start the power unit of the car.

The key fob has a built-in electronic device that requires a power source, which is provided by a battery. The service life of a power supply cannot be infinite; the time comes when it will have to be replaced. Many owners turn to specialists. But the operation is quite simple, which you can easily do yourself.

How to start replacing the power source

There are owners of Toyota Camry V50, V55 (aka XV50, XV55) 2015 and other years of production who have no idea about replacing the battery in the key fob. As soon as the icon of a weak current source in the key appears on the instrument panel, or in the case when it is not possible to open or lock the car interior remotely, it is time to replace the battery in the key fob.

First of all, purchase a new CR2032 battery. In some keys it may be CR2016 at 3 Volts. The service life is approximately three years, but if the vehicle is used intensively, it must be replaced annually.

Sequence of operation

The operation of replacing the battery in the key can be performed right inside the car. To do this, you need a set of flat-head screwdrivers with different blade thicknesses and widths. To remove the battery from the Camry V50, V55 remote control, you will have to perform the following operations:

  1. Select a screwdriver blade of the required width and thickness and open the plastic case of the product. The blade is carefully inserted into the groove on the body and turned clockwise. Important! Using a large blade may damage the plastic body of the key fob.
  2. After removing half of the case, another one will be visible, which contains the power source. The lid of this case is held on by two latches that can be easily pressed out even with a fingernail.
  3. The battery is fixed in its socket by a spring mechanism, it is removed with a thin, sharp object, and then a new one is installed.

Important! The battery is installed with the “+” sign facing up, otherwise the key fob will not work.
The key is assembled in the reverse order. Upon completion of assembly of the case, check the functionality of the key fob. If everything works as normal, then replacing the battery in the Toyota Camry ignition key is complete.

If you need to “register” a new key for a Toyota Camry car

Due to various circumstances, it may be necessary to purchase a new key or make a duplicate of it. Simply picking up a new key fob, inserting it into the ignition switch and starting the engine will not work.

The new key must be adapted to the immobilizer installed on the car. To do this you will have to use a scanner programmer or laptop. The latter also requires a connecting cable to connect the car's on-board computer to the laptop. This cable is called Mini VCI J2534, the photo shows what it looks like. Perhaps others are suitable, you need to check with the sellers.

“Registering” a new key is only possible if you have a working key fob!

When using a laptop, install the Toyota Techstream program (video instructions for downloading and installation are at the end of the article), connect it to the car’s on-board computer, and turn on the ignition with a working key. The programmable key can be placed on the roof and the door left open. The monitor should show the picture shown in the photo below:

Select “Entry start” with the cursor and press “Enter”. The following picture will appear, where “Utility” is selected in the column.

The installer is presented with a menu. In it you should select “Key code registration”. After this, all items in the column are checked in the new menu.

The installer will be shown how many keys are “registered” and how many more can be added. In the right corner of the new plate there is a column “Pre-start CHK”. Click on the animated “Start” icon, which starts the stopwatch for 30 seconds.

At this time, you should bring the programmable key fob with the Toyota icon to the sound signal. When finished, click “Next” and exit the program.

They close the laptop, disconnect it from the car’s on-board computer and check the results of their work.

I disabled the tag for myself. And sometimes I put the key on key lock. You need to hold down the lock button and press the open button twice.

The car was three years old and the battery in the key was dead, so I removed the battery from the second key.

The key and tag are in my pocket together, I change the tag once every three months, the battery is cheap from a fixed price.

But it doesn’t sit in my mark, but it does in the native key

Not the key to normal after heart replacement, the mark was tormented. I bent the contacts, glued the gasket so that it would press, everything was wrong.

Try temporarily using a second set of keys, then at least it will become clear what exactly the problem is: in the key or in the car. If the second set works for a long time and correctly, then you can replace the batteries from it into the problematic key...

Also, after 2-2.5 years, I started getting an error and the battery was low... haven’t changed it yet. But I read that people install a battery from the dealer and it works. How it differs from a store-bought energizer or others I can’t imagine.

But it doesn’t write to me. Simply pulling the handle does not open the car and the car does not start until you bring the key fob to the button. Where does he write?

On the screen the BC writes: “low battery charge of the key” something like this. It may also become stiff when opening. The trunk does not react from afar, you need to come closer.

But it doesn’t write to me. Simply pulling the handle does not open the car and the car does not start until you bring the key fob to the button. Where does he write?

You need to enable the function about a dead battery in the machine settings, and it will write on the device.

Tell me where to turn it on. Didn't see it on the menu

There is no menu in the car, it needs to be done through diagnostics. There are a lot of things you can configure there if you wish, I configured them using Carista

Also, after 2-2.5 years, I started getting an error and the battery was low... haven’t changed it yet. But I read that people install a battery from the dealer and it works. How it differs from a store-bought energizer or others I can’t imagine.

Yes, it’s no different - the same tablet only from Panasonic. If the author, after replacing the batteries, quickly discharges, then the problem is not with them. I think you need to either go to the dealer, or contact a key locksmith. By the way, maybe there is some kind of interference with the key? (something like a gate/barrier remote control or some other radio devices)

The device body is made of plastic and is available in 3 styles:

  1. The electronic device is standardly dark in color and rectangular in shape, equipped with control buttons and a system for extending the key for the ignition switch using a lever.
  2. The smart key is black and rectangular in shape with rounded edges. The remote control contains buttons for manipulating the locks.
  3. Metal car key from the ignition switch, an electronic chip with buttons is built into the head.

The car is supplied with a plate with an identification number for restoring the opening devices at an authorized dealer in case of loss or damage to the key, as well as 2 mechanical ones:

  1. The main one is black and matches all locks. A transponder is integrated into the head - a transceiver, which, through a special code, interacts with the memory of the immobilizer - the electronic unit of the car's anti-theft system. In this regard, a duplicate cannot be made outside the service center of the car dealership, otherwise the locking system will not be canceled and the engine will not be able to start.
  2. Additional - with red insert, training master key.

Add. The mechanical device has the following list of functions:

  • disarming;
  • activation of the electronic anti-theft system at the beginning of use;
  • training 2 new working keys.

There are several features in the use of the main and auxiliary devices in vehicle operation:

  1. While the car enthusiast is starting the car, the key fob ring must not be allowed to come into contact with the key. This will make it impossible to start the engine or stop immediately after starting up.
  2. When starting, contact with devices of similar technological content should be avoided.
  3. If, due to failure to comply with these rules, the car stalls, you must remove the key, take appropriate precautions, and then start the engine again.

Signs of breakdown

The vehicle may be completely immobilized as a result of sensor failure. Since it stops receiving data from the components associated with it, in order not to cause harm, the automation turns off all electronics. But this rarely happens.

Most often, if the automatic transmission selector position device breaks down, the following error information appears on the panel screen:

  • "Check Engine". This type of error may indicate problems not only with the selector sensor, but also with the engine. The car will work properly for a long time. Only the light will bore the driver with its blinking. I do not recommend correcting the error by resetting it by removing the left terminal of the battery. After some time the error will appear again. Ignoring it will lead to the next error arising from the previous one;
  • “Hold” lights up on the monitor. The automatic transmission goes into emergency mode. The engine stops running. The car doesn't move. On a busy highway, this can cause an emergency.

Read

That’s why I advise new car enthusiasts to promptly contact experienced mechanics when this “Check Engine” error appears.

If the selector lever position sensor breaks down, the following errors will be easier:

  • switching to first speed only;
  • lack of switching all speeds when driving.

If these problems arise on the road, you must call a tow truck and transport the car to a service center for diagnostics.

If you notice a problem in the garage, you can independently diagnose the problem in the automatic transmission.

What battery is used

In the electronic remote control of Toyota Camry V50 and V55, you need to install a battery with number CR 2032. For Toyota Camry V40 and Toyota Corolla E150 you will need CR 2021.

Information about the required CR model is located on the battery itself and on its protective cover.

Analogues by characteristics

CR 2021 and CR 2032 batteries are optimal for many keys due to their size and characteristics. They are used to power systems that require a small element with maximum energy efficiency. They are not batteries and cannot be charged.

When is it time to change your CR 2021 battery?

With regular use, the service life of the CR 2016 button battery is an average of one and a half years. The device does not turn off unexpectedly; until the battery charge is completely depleted, the device shows signs of the need to replace it, for example:

  1. The car stops responding to a one-time signal, you have to press the desired button again.
  2. Increases the force when pressing the button.
  3. The operating range between the car and the owner for the remote control to operate is reduced - you have to come close.
  4. The security alarm is triggered after an attempt to unlock the doors with the device.

Does the generation and model of Camry matter?

Depending on the model and year of your vehicle, your remote control may require different types of batteries. In some models, it is possible to replace the CR 2016 with a new CR 2032, if the capacity of the device allows its thickness. Thanks to this, the car owner will change the battery less often, because CR 2032 holds a charge longer.

In previous generations of Toyota Camry, a key was included in the package, to disassemble it you need to unscrew the bolts in the body.

In newer cars of the brand, disassembling the device to replace the battery occurs without these manipulations.

Instructions

So, how do you replace the battery in your key?

To carry out the procedure, you will need a car ignition key, a new battery, a screwdriver, and a paper clip.

  1. At the very beginning, you should open the key using a suitable screwdriver. It is best to choose the right size, as otherwise the plastic key may become deformed.
  2. The key fob is best opened carefully, moving clockwise. With the right approach, the case will definitely open.
  3. Another building will be visible inside. This is where the battery is hidden. After the housing is opened, the main replacement stage can be carried out. In this case, the fastening of the two parts of the second body is held on by two latches, so they need to be opened using a paper clip or fingernails.
  4. Now you need to pry the battery up and pull it out. A spring mechanism is used to secure it. Now the battery can be changed.
  5. The assembly process is carried out in reverse order.

Automatic transmission

The most common and reliable are hydromechanical “automatic machines”. They were invented in the USA back in the early 30s. Main components of the box:

  • planetary gears;
  • hydraulic unit;
  • torque converter (clutch).

Not everyone goes into detail - what happens there when the accelerator or brake pedal is pressed. The driver is guided by the dashboard readings:

  1. In the neutral position of the automatic transmission selector, the “N” indicator lights up.
  2. Reverse is engaged, “R” is on.
  3. Forward movement - "D".

General instructions for changing the battery in the key

To prevent negative consequences when working with the remote control device, the following rules should be observed:

  1. Hands must be dry. Moisture will cause corrosion of metal elements.
  2. Do not move or touch other components inside the device.
  3. Do not bend the contacts leading to the battery.

With electronic chip

Cars with push button start function:

  1. Unlock the latch and remove the metal key.
  2. Insert it into the special groove, turn clockwise until a characteristic click is heard, and remove the housing cover.
  3. Use a screwdriver to lift one edge of the protective cover for the battery, then the other.
  4. Use a coin or paper clip to remove the dead battery.
  5. Insert the new one, observing the polarity: + should point up.
  6. Install the parts in reverse order.
  7. Make sure that the device is working properly by pressing the buttons to lock and unlock the doors.

Without smart electronics

Vehicles without push-button start:

  1. Remove the housing cover, taking precautions to avoid deformation of the plastic - cover the end of the screwdriver with a soft cloth.
  2. Separate the battery from the protective case.
  3. Remove the discharged battery. Insert the new one so that the “+” contact points upward.
  4. Install the battery cover with the protrusion facing up. Press into grooves.
  5. Bury the housing tightly until you hear a characteristic click.
  6. When pressing the buttons, make sure that the car door locks respond to the signal from the remote control.

Sometimes replacing the battery in electronic device modules completely clears their memory.

Reprogramming may be required for the instrument to perform its intended functions effectively.

What to do

The most unpleasant moment is the complete discharge of the battery. If the battery is completely discharged, remote control of the Toyota Camry is no longer possible. Using the key fob you will not be able to open the doors or the tailgate in a timely manner. In addition, there will be serious problems with starting the car, because the anti-theft system will still work. It is not surprising that replacing the batteries in the Toyota Camry key becomes an important and urgent task. To replace it, a small flat screwdriver is traditionally used, with which you can complete the task in the shortest possible time.

You need to be prepared for the fact that replacing the battery in the Toyota Camry key will not lead to a quick solution to the problem.

If the vehicle key fob still does not work successfully, it will need to be re-programmed to suit the vehicle's requirements.

This is due to the fact that when replacing the battery, the memory of electronic devices may be completely cleared, after which they are temporarily unable to successfully perform their tasks. For further successful use of the key fob, it is advisable to contact the car service employees, because they will be the ones who will be able to re-program it in order to resume the previous functions.

It should be noted that many Toyota Camry owners try to replace all batteries when cold weather sets in, so a new battery is also selected for the key fob. At the same time, contacting the service center employees to install a new battery is an impractical step, because the payment for their services promises to be excessively high. It is best to carry out the planned event yourself, because it does not involve particularly complex processes.

Automatic transmission selector position sensor

The machine contains several types of devices that monitor the parameters of the gearbox so that deviations do not occur. When any part breaks or the device fails, it sends a signal to the control panel monitor.

Automatic transmission sensors:

  • device for determining speed. Determines the rotation speed of the input and output shafts;
  • lubricant pressure and automatic transmission temperature sensors;
  • ECU. The electronic control unit is the brain of the vehicle system;
  • and, finally, the automatic transmission inhibitor we need or the selector position sensor.

The position sensor consists of resistive plates and a slider that moves.

Attention! The automatic transmission selector position device is a sealed device, which is better not to disassemble, but to replace completely. Since disassembly and reassembly can lead to subsequent system failures. And a hacked inhibitor is difficult to configure to function adequately.

Operating principle of the sensor

The operating principle of the sensor is as follows:

Review of the best automatic transmission additives

  1. You change the position of the selector lever.
  2. The position taken by the curtain is recorded in an electronic device. At the same second, it transmits this data to the electronic control unit of the machine.
  3. The program is launched in the on-board computer.
  4. According to the given signal, the hydraulic system begins to work. The necessary valves open, the brake band clamps the friction discs, and the desired gear is engaged.

This is how the gear selector position device works. But in addition to its main function, it is responsible for some components of the car. More on this in the next block.

What is the sensor responsible for?

The selector lever position sensor is a multifunctional device. The signal from it turns on the reversing lamps. The inhibitor controls the operation of the starter drive in the “P” and “N” positions. That is why the serviceability of the device is important.

The driving mode is determined using a potentiometer. The resistance of the device depends on the position of the slider. At the same time, the output voltage also changes. And the voltage directly works with the valve body valves, opening or closing them.

Where is it located?

It can be found on the device selector shaft. In most cases it is connected to the spool valve actuator in the hydraulic plate.

Attention! The sensor is opened by drilling out rivets.

Now you know what the device is and how to find it. Next, I will talk about common causes of device malfunctions and point out signs of failure.

In the meantime, write in the comments whether you have already disassembled the automatic transmission selector position sensor or replaced it?

How to get a new key and how much it will cost

In order to obtain a Camry unlocking device, the owner should contact a Toyota dealer or a service center offering a car key restoration service, where they will help make and program the device correctly.

The car owner must decide, based on the technical equipment of his car, which type of key will be suitable: smart, transponder or without a chip. Many of them are similar, but have different characteristics in terms of the list of capabilities and structure.

Information that should be provided to the technician when recreating the car key:

  1. Year, make and model of the vehicle, for example: 2012 Toyota Camry.
  2. VIN number of 17 characters to determine the type of device being requested.
  3. Documents on car ownership.

The price for making a key at a service center depends on its type and year of manufacture of the Toyota Camry. The average cost of restoration is between $90 and $400.
