Land Cruiser 200 Excalibur – equipment and specifications

Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Excalibur is the richest model of the 2021 - 2021 model year. Excalibur means the sword of King Arthur , which, according to legend, had magical properties, and only chosen and worthy people could wield it. The configuration in question replaced Executive Black and White .

The basic modification for the new Land Cruiser is the Executive package with adaptive hydropneumatic suspension, a choice of five driving modes, unique bumper trims and twenty-inch wheels.

The same name was used for American branded replicars, which were manufactured between 1965 and 1999 .

Distinctive features of the model

Land Cruiser 200 Excalibur was released in 2021 as a replacement for the previous premium versions of the SUV, Executive Black and Executive White. The technical characteristics of the car have not changed, but the design has undergone serious revision.

The “face” of the LC has become much more stylish. Instead of the usual silver chrome, there is darkened metal on the radiator grille, 20-inch wheels and body moldings. The headlights are surrounded by a black frame. The flashy red color of the headlights is also muted so as not to stand out from the general concept, but this does not in any way affect the brightness of the xenon.

The interior now looks more expensive. The interior is decorated in black leather stitched with a diamond-shaped seam. The seats are wide enough for a person of any size to sit comfortably on them; there is enough space even in the second row. By the way, both the seats and the steering wheel are heated. The seating position is quite high to provide the driver and passengers with a good view of the road. The instrument panel has not undergone major changes.

A description of Excalibur would not be complete without the main highlight, emphasizing the premium quality of the car: when you open the driver's door, the interior lighting projects the SUV logo onto the ground in the landing area.

In technical terms, the LC 200 Excalibur is not much different from the rest of the 5th generation: the same passive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, standard navigation, assistance when starting uphill or downhill. Low gearing and ride height control allow you to overcome any obstacles. The motor is started by a button.

Differences from the Executive package

Land Cruiser 200 Excalibur is different:

  1. Aggressive bumper design.
  2. Dimmable LED optics.

  3. Updated radiator grille.
  4. Wheels with twenty-inch size and dark chrome color.
  5. The rear pillars are equipped two special nameplates.

  6. Used as finishing material for seats and door cards Semi-Aniline - a combination of synthetic and natural leather, the seams are made in a diamond shape.

  7. Heating of everything is provided.
  8. Toyota Safety Sense active safety system .

Buyers are given the opportunity to choose body color . The following options are available:

  • white;
  • black;
  • silver;
  • Navy blue;
  • red-brown;
  • dark grey.

Metallic or pearlescent body paint is an option.
The designers also provided for the light projection of the Toyota Excalibur sign on the ground when the driver’s door is open. There is a raised seating position for the driver, which provides a good view of the road surface. The width of the seats is suitable for people of various sizes. There is also enough space in the cabin for rear seat passengers.

The technical equipment of the Excalibur is completely identical to the Toyota Land Cruiser Executive version.

Toyota introduced the top version of the Land Cruiser 200 Excalibur

Introducing the new Land Cruiser 200 Excalibur series, Toyota tells us: "It's only for the elite." It sounds, of course, fascinating, but isn’t it an empty phrase? Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but lately I've been hearing a lot of similar statements and I want there to be at least something real behind them. Otherwise, by golly, it’s a shame and a pity for the time spent on the test drive...

The Toyota LC 200 does not have a body, like other cars, but a body, and when moving it shifts from foot to foot

DON'T FALL ASLEEP

A special series of “two hundred” – Excalibur – will replace the old premium versions of Executive Black and Executive White. I doubt anyone else remembers what this set of letters means. However, one thing can be said with confidence: the beautiful word “Excalibur”, in contrast to the old “Executive White”, smeared like porridge on the tablecloth, is in itself of considerable value. I immediately want to break it down into syllables and start juggling them. So even if you don’t enjoy the ride, there will be something to occupy your jaws while pronouncing the name of the series as you go. So, what do Toyota marketers, who are greedy for effects, offer us? In general, no surprises! “A unique bumper design, dark chrome trim on the exterior elements, darkened headlights, an interior made of high-quality Semi-aniline perforated leather with diamond stitching and a special series emblem on the body and in a light projection in the landing area,” - by the time you read it, you’ll probably get a few minutes just look at your smartphone for some entertainment.

The LC 200 will never achieve the status of a car with a capital C. Of course, after all, the Kruzak is a bumpkin

VISUALS AND AUDIOS

So let's get straight to the point. We all perceive the world differently. Some through the body, others through hearing, others through the eyes, stomach, and so on. This can be easily understood by the verbs that a person usually uses. If words such as “probed”, “strained”, “grinded”, etc. are often found in speech, then he thinks in bodily categories. If he uses “overlooked”, “foresaw”, “looked out”, then, accordingly, visual. Considering that in specialized teams, which include the design bureaus of automakers, they select people with the same type of thinking (otherwise they won’t get along), then they also produce cars with an emphasis on “physicality”, “visuality”, etc., etc.... Examples ? Yes, as much as you like! The recently unveiled Range Rover Velar is a car made for contemplation. You can ride it for a long time looking for something that will invigorate your body or ears, but believe me, your eyes will always be satisfied. Do you know what I mean?

This interior was definitely created by muscular hands

The number of buttons can be confusing if you're not used to it.

BODY, NOT BODY

In general, this is all a preface to calling the Toyota LC 200 an absolutely “physical” mechanism. Toyota communicates with the world and the driver at the muscle level. Moreover, from the first minutes of meeting you understand that the LC 200 has a body, and not a body, like other cars. It is alive and even shifts from foot to foot when moving. It is clear that not everyone likes this character. Among the snobs who consider themselves adherents of true car culture and often inappropriately flaunt terms like “understeer” and other pseudo-expert crap, the LC 200 will never achieve the status of a car with a capital “C”. Of course, after all, the “Kruzak” is a lump. However, it has its own dedicated audience, and it is unlikely that these people are attracted to anything negative. I doubt any of them are saying, “I can’t wait until the nausea creeps up in my throat.” I am sure that the secret of the popularity of this archaic design is that its customers have a special bodily type of perception of the world, which makes them buy Toyota again and again. Whatever one may say, this brand is the leader in the number of loyal customers who remain faithful to one model all their lives. As many as 63% of owners take the “two hundred” again and again. And I think the data is even underestimated. After all, statistics do not take into account the transition to its glamorous clone - Lexus LX. In fact, it’s not because they clung to it so much that it has longitudinal and lateral rocking and insufficient directional stability.

The double tailgate has its own special flavor - some use it as a table, others as a bench

JUST NOT TO DYATLOV

I was lucky enough to take part in two events where the Toyota LC 200 was subjected to the toughest conditions imaginable. In one, the Japanese SUV simply disgraced itself, and in the other, it showed its best side. The first took place at the Dyatlov Pass. We gathered in this nice place in a convoy of a dozen LC 200, but, having traveled only six kilometers out of the one hundred and twenty planned, we returned home, having spent eight hours on everything. This suggests that no matter how cool your device is, the brain is still much more important and efficient. There was quite passable snow pellets under the wheels, and it would not have been difficult for the LC 200 to cope with it. But the road kept going up. It was barely noticeable to the eye, but it was precisely these insignificant degrees that ruined the enterprise. I was upset, but then, when they explained to me why the Dyatlov Pass is famous, I breathed a sigh of relief. If I had known the history of this damned place in advance, I would have stayed at home. So, no matter how bad the heavy LC 200 was on a snowy climb, it turned out to be so beautiful in the Kazakh sands of the Caspian coast. This is the true element of the Japanese fat man! When it comes to sand, you can be sure. No matter where you have to go - uphill or downhill - it will be excellent everywhere. And, in general, it’s clear why. The wealthiest and most widespread consumer of the LC 200 lives not in Surgut, but in the desert. If you remember, Grandpa Clarkson wrote in one of his columns: “In the desert it’s like this: if your SUV breaks down, you die. That’s why locals prefer Toyota Land Cruiser.”

The suspension travel is fantastic! Those who like to walk along the terrain will appreciate this

THREE ROADS

Again, snow is an extremely treacherous substance. Much more complex than sand. And there are many times more types of snow in nature. But is this of interest to consumers on urban and suburban roads? Is it purely theoretical... But advertisers who are trying to show off the product don’t give a damn about it. They think completely differently. For them, the exclusivity of the Excalibur is emphasized by the light projection of the special edition emblem in the boarding area when the door is opened. I must admit, I didn’t even remember this detail after the test drive. The marketing wizards are also pushing the luxury of perforated Semi-aniline leather with elegant diamond stitching. She, as you understand, is also not too deposited in consciousness. What else do the masters of presenting delights have in store? More dynamic and aggressive design of the front and rear bumpers, radiator grille and fog lamp surrounds. Hmmm, it’s like attaching a flag to a steam locomotive for greater dynamics and aggressiveness. But what the wizards from Toyota are right about is the price. The version with top-end equipment and a diesel engine, which I drove, costs 5,616,000 rubles. Beautiful numbers! You remember them easily and for a long time.

WHO ARE YOU WITH?

Well, let's sum it up. Before you buy the LC 200, you have to decide who are you with? If you like the role of the "angry townsman", then you will be greatly disappointed. “Dvuhsotka” is a unique, original car and, from a utilitarian point of view, absolutely ridiculous if you consider it exclusively on the asphalt. By the way, it consumes at least 15 liters of diesel per hundred. At the same time, directional stability on highways leaves much to be desired. After all, a frame SUV, and even one with a short wheelbase (it is 150 mm shorter than its competitors), is much more pleasant to operate in rural areas. Although not everything will be smooth there. In particular, vertical swing on bumps and uneven surfaces quickly leads to a collision between the front end and the ground, which is not very pleasant. But if, when describing the past day to a friend, you use signal expressions that you were quite “loaded” at work, then “squeezed” in the parking lot, then, finally, you managed to “relieve” the tension in the gym and “fall” to sleep, then LC 200 for you. And, to be honest, I envy you. Once you find yourself behind the wheel of a 200, you immediately understand that the usual criteria applicable to ordinary cars do not work here. This model is loved for something else... In addition, owning a Toyota LC 200 means joining one of the oldest and most successful SUVs in the world!

Peculiarities

There is nothing new in the operation of the TLC 200 Excalibur: only the design has changed. You will have to adapt to the location of the buttons hidden behind the steering wheel: “all-round camera”, “trunk opening”, “marking control”, “washer” are the same to the touch, so you will have to remember their order if you don’t want to be distracted from the road. True, this is a “disease” not only of premium equipment, but also of Lexuses and Prados produced by Toyota.

The dashboard is replete with icons that light up when their corresponding functions are disabled. You also need to get used to such “illumination”.

The car feels more confident off-road, but also on asphalt, even with cruise control, it shows excellent handling. Thanks to the powerful suspension, uneven roads are not felt, and the ride can be made even softer by replacing the factory 20-inch wheels with smaller ones. Excalibur does not suffer from rolliness, but it can throw an emergency braking driver forward.

Surprisingly, drivers consider the Sport S mode to be the most optimal: the car with it reacts faster to the gas pedal and saves fuel (compared to Comfort), but the suspension does not feel as stiff as in Sport S+.

Prices

In Russia, Excalibur is sold in gasoline and diesel versions. To withstand the Russian winter, it is equipped with automatic engine warming and interior heating functions.

The average price of diesel is 5.6 million rubles, gasoline - 5.5. At official dealers the cost reaches 6 million. This package cannot be called the most expensive in its family: the new Executive Lounge and Safety Suite are unlikely to cost less. There are not so many used Excaliburs yet, but you can buy them from 4.3 million.
