To prevent this, on models used to drive critical mechanisms, an electric motor vibration sensor is installed.
In addition, it is necessary to periodically measure the vibration of the electric motor. For this purpose, a special device is used - a vibration analyzer, which, unlike a vibrograph and vibrometer, not only records the magnitude and amplitude of vibrations, but also allows us to identify their source and cause of occurrence. Measurements are performed at idle and at rated load.
Electric motor vibration: causes
The occurrence of unwanted vibrations can be caused by the influence of both electromagnetic and mechanical factors.
Electromagnetic reasons:
- the appearance of cracks in the rods of the squirrel-cage rotor or their complete breakage;
- deformation of the rotor plates.
A break or crack in at least one rod of the “squirrel cage” is the cause of asymmetry in the magnetic moments acting on the rotor
Due to the deformation of the plates in the active steel, the air gap between the stator and the rotor will be uneven, which will lead to asymmetry of the magnetic fluxes.
Mechanical reasons:
- incorrect alignment of the engine and driven mechanism;
- defects in couplings;
- wear of bearings in the engine or driven mechanism;
- deformation of the electric motor shaft;
- rotor imbalance;
- loosening of fastening at the installation site;
- breakage of welding seams in the console or frame.
Vibration detection algorithm and methods for its elimination
The permissible vibration of the electric motor is determined by the requirements of GOST 16921-71 and GOST 20815-75. If it is not possible to determine its magnitude and causes using special equipment, this simple technique is used.
In normal load mode, it is necessary to inspect the engine and check the reliability of its fastening to the welded structure or foundation anchors and tighten loose threaded connections. After this, the engine is disconnected from the driven mechanism and started in idle mode. If there is no vibration of the electric motor, then the cause of its occurrence is the coupling on the side of the driven mechanism. In this case, check the alignment of the coupling halves, the condition of the rubber washers and petals, as well as the weight of the fingers of one pair (if a discrepancy is detected, fingers with the same weight are selected).
When vibration persists at idle, the cause of its occurrence lies in the engine itself. The source can be identified in the run-down mode of the electric machine (natural stop after the power supply is cut off). If the electric motor stops without shaft runout, it is necessary to check the uniformity of the gap between the rotor and stator. The damped amplitude when the voltage is removed indicates deformation of the rotor shaft, breakage of the short-circuited rods or short circuit of the wound rotor windings.
Rotor imbalance is eliminated on special machines by drilling out excess metal from the end of the shaft. If the phase rotor windings are damaged, they must be rewinded. Cracked and torn squirrel cage rods are removed and replaced with new ones.
The cause of vibration may be worn bearings, which indicate the presence of a defect by increased temperature and loud noise. This type of runout can be eliminated by simply replacing used bearings. Measuring the vibration of motor bearings using installed sensors allows you to identify problems at an early stage.
For critical mechanisms at defense enterprises, hydroelectric power plants, etc., a schedule for measuring vibration of electric motors has been established.
