While there are dull and meaningless discussions on the site about the number of Peugeots sold, I decided to share my impressions of Toyota.

I have already driven about 8 thousand km, I have the right. Car 2021, Exclusive equipment, 2.5 engine, automatic transmission.

Let's start with the appearance. It’s a matter of taste, I really don’t like the design of Toyotas (especially TLC, Prado, etc. - it seems to me that the designer left the Toyota and the machines were drawn by a machine operator). They do better (slightly) with passenger cars. In general, many people like this Camry.

On the outside there are LED fogs, like all the fogs I know - they have a decorative function and give a subtle amount of light “under the nose.” The main headlights are xenon low beam + high beam halogen. They seem to shine brightly, but the jackdaw seems too close, the illumination range is not enough.

The design at the back is more relaxed; I don’t like that there are two holes for pipes, but only one pipe. It's not good to do that, in my opinion. Only Peugeots did worse, with imitation pipes in the bumper and a sad cigarette butt under it. The huge Exclusive nameplate should obviously drive downstream neighbors into awe.

In general, discussing appearance is a thankless task, a matter of taste.

Let's go inside. The car has keyless entry. It is assumed that the owner approaches the car with the key in his pocket/bag, grabs the handle and sits down. But in practice, you often have to squeeze the handle several times, then rub it gently for access to work. So I started using the buttons on the key fob as usual. The interior has a lot of wood-like plastic and a large multimedia screen. And here is my first disappointment. This system is simply disgusting and is a primitive cheap Android tablet. Godless brakes! When the Yandex navigator is working, it often loses contact with the satellite: “turn right!” - but I’ve already passed the turn... The design is ugly, it’s inconvenient to use. Searching for songs is difficult.

Periodically, the multimedia displays a black screen instead of the rear view camera image, then it goes away on its own. There are many glitches, it’s impossible to count them all. It’s very strange that such an expensive car (about 2 million at the time of purchase) has such cheap multimedia.

The seats are leather and have electric drive. Convenient, pleasant.

The interior lighting is blue. It’s annoying that the mirror adjustment buttons don’t light up - we saved a couple of diodes, well done! A muted blue color shines at the feet, I love little things like that, but in general they were too lazy to highlight a lot of the buttons.

The clock on the center console seems disgusting to me, a terrible primitive thing! They don’t even show the 24th format!!! I remember exactly the same ones from the 1998 Toyota Spasio.

The car has wireless phone charging (not relevant for me), and has practically no pockets or surfaces where you can put something. Here both Rio and Rapid win.

There is another terrible drawback in my opinion - the climate. How many times have I heard: “What about the climate, I turned on the desired temperature once and forgot!” I have a hard time believing this, based on my use of Toyota. He frankly fails to cope with his responsibilities. When the street is +25 and above, you have to drive in Lo mode and maximum fan speed. At the same time, at maximum fan speed, the actual blowing speed is lower than that of Rapid at speed 2! There's just not enough airflow speed. But the volume is like 3rd. Is this how it should be? The impression is that the climate simply cannot cope with the large volume of the interior. The bitterness is added by the small number of climate modes and the inconvenience of using it. Overall the car seems stuffy.

Everything is fine here, in my opinion. The motor and gearbox are well tuned and adapted to each other, I practically don’t need to switch to manual mode - and so there is a minimum of dullness. There is little vibration, and the noise is not annoying either. But it can please you with its dynamics - I tried it and the car accelerated to 100 in 9.5 seconds. Not bad that way.

There is a mysterious manual mode S. I did not understand how it works and how to use it correctly (and there are no instructions for the machine). I press manual mode and the text S4 appears. When you swing the lever back and forth, the numbers change. Then I figured out that the number after S is a restriction. Like when S3, it won’t go higher than third. The meaning of this is not clear to me, maybe you can explain.

When changing lanes at speed, I don’t like the reactions to the steering wheel. First a roll, then a jerk in the direction of turning the steering wheel, then hesitation. The feeling of a barge, I have never driven a Volga, but I immediately thought about it when I felt this effect.

In terms of unevenness, I wouldn’t call the suspension energy-intensive, it requires carefulness, sometimes longitudinal sway appears (if you go a little overboard with the speed on a speed bump), it often makes obscene sounds when driving over minor unevenness.

Brakes: they seem downright weak to me for such a car. I don’t know how to explain it correctly, there is no feeling of reserve under the pedal when braking, it seems that it is slowing down to the limit.

In general, the car hardly gives any unpleasant emotions, but I also notice a lot of shortcomings.

I purchased a Toyota Camry V70 in 2021 after driving 45,000 km. I will compare with previous generations of Camry in the V55 body and everyone’s favorite V40, which I drove for many years. In terms of fuel consumption, a 2.5-liter engine on the highway “eats” no less than the top-end 3.5 V6, because with the latter you simply enjoy driving, and the former needs to be constantly “kicked” for the car to at least somehow drive. As a result, at a speed of 140-160 km/h, both consume approximately 11.3 liters per hundred; if you keep the highway at 120 km/h, it will be 9.5 - 10.5 liters.

The 40 and 55 gearboxes did not cause any complaints at all, the Camry 70 with an automatic transmission works ideally only in the city, and when going on the highway, when there is a need to accelerate well, something crazy starts happening to the gearbox. She can drop two gears down, does not understand what is required of her. At the same time, the engine roars, but there is no acceleration.

After a run of 10,000 km, something got used to it, and driving became more comfortable - at least I got stable acceleration and speed, 160 km/h is not the limit for the Camry. But even after a significant mileage, it holds low gear for a long time, and there are gear drops.

The braking system is frankly bad, it is enough to brake sharply twice at a speed of 160 km/h and it starts to beat. It’s pointless to sharpen it - the symptoms remain, but in the city they work clearly, and on the highway I try to be extremely careful.

The suspension is optimally assembled and tuned, better than in the 55 and naturally better than in the forty. There is practically no rolliness, during sharp acceleration on the highway it does not yaw along the road, but at speed it is better not to take turns - it is very uncomfortable, on a good road there will be a roll, but on uneven surfaces it fits into turns perfectly and at very high speeds.

The Camry V70 handles better on the highway than previous models - on gravel they all drive equally so-so. Good handling is ensured by the multi-link suspension at the rear, but the front one has a short stroke and hits the stops at speed on normal waves. I didn’t observe this on previous models, so bad roads are definitely not for the 70 model.

In general, I'm half satisfied with the sedan, I don't like the unstable operation of the gearbox. There is no longer any hope that everything will stabilize - the mileage is not short. Overall, the car is not bad, but inferior to the previous generation.
