If you do not do this, the damper will begin to stick, and because of this, starting the engine may be difficult, and the speed will fluctuate.
Therefore, if you have already traveled more than tens of thousands of kilometers, then it is worth, at least for the sake of interest, to trust the master and clean the throttle. In most cases, the effect of cleaning is immediately felt.
How to clean
Every specialist in a specialized car service knows how to properly clean the throttle valve, but not every car owner. But it is recommended to perform this procedure at least 30–50 thousand km, depending on the quality of the fuel used, the condition of the filters and systems.
You can clean the throttle valve without removing the valve or by removing the part. In the first case, an intake valve cleaner is used. First, the air duct is dismantled, after which, with the damper closed, the product, which is usually released in the form of an aerosol, is applied to the surface of the part. Dirt and oil accumulations are removed with a soft cloth. Next, you need to open the damper (press the gas pedal all the way) and remove dirt from the side surfaces and channels. The procedure is performed several times.
Please note that partial cleaning, as well as washing the injectors without removing them, will not completely remove all contaminants from the part. Therefore, it is better to carry out the procedure with removing the throttle.
Complete cleaning
Complete cleaning of dirt and carbon deposits is only possible when the device is removed. The correct way to dismantle the unit is as follows:
- Disconnect the air duct.
- Remove the damper by unscrewing the bolts and disconnecting the connectors.
- Using a carburetor cleaner or a special compound for throttle valves, use a soft cloth to thoroughly wipe the part inside and out.

- After cleaning the throttle, reassemble the entire air supply system assembly in the reverse order.
- “Train” the damper after installation by setting the idle speed to the required (factory) value.
How to clean the throttle position sensor
Contamination can also get onto the position sensor. Due to malfunction of the sensor, loss or poor contact, the information received by the vehicle's ECU about the position of the part will be incorrect. As a result, the engine will not gain speed - or, more dangerously, the throttle will open completely while driving, which will lead to an increase in speed instead of braking.
Use a liquid and a soft cloth to remove dirt and oil deposits from the sensor without using excessive force.

- Remove the air system pipe leading from the air filter to the throttle body.

But! Do not use any abrasive materials when cleaning the valve and generally do not overdo it with friction force. This way, you risk removing useful deposits and losing the tightness of the system or disrupting the smooth operation, causing the damper to move jerkily.
After the procedures are completed, install everything in reverse order.
Removing the throttle body 1NZ-FE
The throttle body is located in the engine compartment between the power unit, battery and cooling radiator. To dismantle it you will need to perform the following steps:
Unscrew the air filter housing and disconnect the pipe
- We find the BDZ under the air and cooling pipes, we begin operations to obtain the necessary space for access to the device;
- Initially, a thin hose is disconnected directly from the unit being dismantled;
- Next, remove the large air pipe. To do this, you will need to loosen the two fastening clamps using a ten-point socket and remove the hose coming from the breather;
- The 1NZ-FE throttle valve changes position due to the connected gas pedal cable. To disconnect it, you will need to unscrew two nuts with a 12 mm spanner and remove it from the seat;
- Unclip the two latches and remove the top cover of the air filter, moving it to the side. To obtain a larger stroke, it is necessary to disconnect the power cables from the two air vent sensors;
- Next, dismantle the lower half of the air filter housing. It is secured with three bolts. We unscrew them using a ten-point socket and an extension;
- Subsequently, we remove the lower part along with the connected inlet pipe. It will be more convenient to disconnect it from the fastener located on the headlight unit. You will need to use a ten key. It is enough to unscrew one of the two bolts on the fixing bar;
- We take out the dipstick from the gearbox, disconnect the power connector for the throttle position sensor and the idle air valve motor;
- We remove the fastening strip of the gas pedal cable by unscrewing two nuts with a 12 mm wrench. It is moved to the side without disconnecting the wiring;
- To gain full access to the BDZ, it remains to disconnect the tube for inserting the dipstick into the gearbox. It is fixed with two 10mm bolts. After unscrewing them, the tube is pulled out by slightly lifting it up. You don’t have to do this step, but getting access to the remote sensing block will be problematic;
- The final step is to unscrew the last 12 bolt that secures the throttle unit. After this, nothing will prevent you from removing the unit from the power unit.
We disconnect the wire connectors, finally unscrew the gas pedal cable.
If you have any problems with unscrewing the bolts and nuts, you should use WD-40. The liquid is applied to bolts or nuts that cannot be unscrewed.

- For cleaning, you can use a regular brush; especially heavy dirt is best removed with a soft-bristled cloth. Metal brushes and coarse rags cannot be used, as they can damage the molybdenum layer on the surface of the assembly.
- Ideally, you need to apply the product for 10-15 minutes, then use a brush to remove it along with the carbon deposits. After rinsing, you should repeat the operation - apply the cleaning agent again, wait a while and remove it along with the dirt.
- After removing deposits, the assembly can be reassembled in the reverse order. First, you need to return all the rubber elements of the throttle assembly to their place, then install the idle speed regulator, then mount the assembly in place using a fixing bracket. Finally, install the air filter housing, then connect the air duct pipe.
Ideally, in addition to the cleaning agent, you can use a can of compressed air. It can be used to blow through all the channels and holes of the unit, which are difficult to access with a brush. Also, before installing the throttle assembly, it is advisable to replace the damper gasket with a new one, fortunately, it is inexpensive.
