When choosing off-road tires, take into account the prevailing type of surface. In addition, soft off-road tires wear out intensively during road use.
Rubber Features:
- MT-764 BIGHORN. It performs well on various surfaces and is easy to etch. It is quiet on the road and wears out quickly. Suitable for off-season use.

I was able to find only 2 tests from the American publication “Consumer Reports” in which these tires participated. Judging by the fact that these tires are not present in European tests, they are not particularly popular in Europe.

Conclusion
Based on the assessment of the disadvantages and advantages, I believe that the choice is obvious. Goodyear and Pirelli are head and shoulders above their competitors. There is of course the dark horse Bridgestone Ecopia EP850, but I think we need to give it time to appreciate its qualities. In the meantime, my choice is among Goodyear and Pirelli.
It is worth noting that all tests have different goals and are carried out with tires of different sizes, so the test results are not always suitable for our case, namely the choice of tires on the Prado for driving on asphalt. Nevertheless, Goodyear is a leader in almost all tests. Perhaps only Continental or new Michelin models can compete with them, but they are not on our market.
When choosing between Goodyear and Pirelli, I lean towards Goodyear. A little cheaper and more popular, otherwise they are approximately equal.

Users note Dunlop 9000 Sport, Nitto Terra Grappler, Continental ContiCrossContact AT, Michelin Latitude Tour HP as the best summer tires for the Prado 120. According to the owners, with a speed index similar to asphalt tires, the second tires perform well off-road, including in sand and mud. If we want to maintain comfort, prevent noise from entering the car, and feel confident on wet and dry asphalt, then we immediately discard Chinese tires. Let's leave them to those who are in a difficult financial situation.
There are 6 brands left to choose from: Kumho, Yokohama, Bridgestone, Pirelli and Goodyear. To make a choice among these brands, I studied two dozen car tire tests. I drew most of my information from European tests by organizations such as ADAC, because they were not seen in “advertising tests”. I also studied the results of Russian tests, and one domestic one, but did not rely heavily on them, because I often noticed the advertising nature of such tests. And separately, I looked at the reviews for all candidates.
I note that all candidates are good
, all have good characteristics, and if I write that a tire has an average level of comfort, then this means average in relation to the compared models. But we still want to choose the best option!

Winter tires for Prado
All-season tires are not suitable for winter conditions in most of the CIS. In addition, in conditions of constant snow cover, studded tires are preferable:
- Dynapro i'cept (RW08). A low-noise tire with good stability and grip on snow and ice, but lacking grip in tight corners.
- i'Pike RW11 (RW11). Inexpensive, quiet and hard rubber that provides stability.
- WinterCraft SUV Ice WS31. Balanced, quiet, soft, grippy rubber with a small number of deeply recessed studs.
- NS3 Arctic Trekker. An inexpensive hard sidewall tire good for snow, mud and ice, but noisy, harsh and heavy on asphalt.

- UltraGrip Ice Arctic SUV. Provides traction on various surfaces, acceleration and braking. Good on snow, slush, ice. Remains soft in the cold. It exhibits lateral drift, noise on asphalt, and a low threshold for aquaplaning.
- GRANDTREK ICE02. Inexpensive, soft, noisy tire with good handling on asphalt, ice and snow, grip and cross-country ability.
- TR757. Inexpensive, soft rubber with decent grip and braking performance, but unbalanced and hardens in the cold.
- Bosco Nordico. Inexpensive tires with good grip on ice and compacted snow and average grip on slush. At the same time, it is noisy and exhibits lateral slip on ice.
- Winguard WinSpike SUV. Inexpensive, low-noise tire with good performance in various conditions, but with a narrow tread.
- ICE ZERO FR. Unbalanced, quiet, durable rubber that provides grip and stability.
- ICE ZERO. Inexpensive, noisy, soft tire with good grip in various conditions.
- iceGUARD Stud IG65. Inexpensive, low noise, comfortable, wear-resistant tire that exhibits lateral slip when cornering.
- HAKKAPELIITTA 9 SUV. Expensive tires with high handling, braking, and smooth ride on asphalt. Soft with firmly fixed thorns, insensitive to rutting. At the same time, it “floats” on dry asphalt and has low cross-country ability. Marriage occurs.
- NORDMAN RS2 SUV. An inexpensive tire with decent braking, acceleration and cross-country ability. Does not harden in frost.
- WR SUV 3. Provides good handling and smooth ride, but poor braking on ice.
- HAKKAPELIITTA 8 SUV. Expensive, universal tires with good braking on asphalt and combined surfaces and do not fall off when traction is lost. At the same time, it is noisy, unbalanced, wears intensively on asphalt, with low handling on ice and braking on loose surfaces.
