The 2.0 3ZR-FE engine has no global problems. But there are disadvantages:

  • increased vibration when idling;
  • quick stretching of the timing chain drive;
  • difficulty starting in winter (at temperatures below -10);
  • pump leaking.

For reliable operation of the 2.0 3ZR internal combustion engine, use high-quality oil and fuel and change the lubricant in a timely manner.

Engine Toyota Rav 4 2.5 2AR-FE

Toyota Rav 4 with a 2.5 2AR engine in Russia is sold only with all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission . Characteristics of Rav 4 with 2.5 2AR-FE engine:

According to operational data, the service life of the 2.5 AR-FE Rav 4 engine is more than 300 thousand km , and the warranty period is one hundred thousand or three years . Toyota allows the Rav 4 2.5 2AR-FE engine to consume up to 1000 grams of oil per 1000 km.

The high reliability of 2.5 2AR engines is noted, subject to timely maintenance.

The disadvantages are as follows:

  • low timing chain life;
  • there are leaks from the pump;
  • decrease in compression level after driving more than one hundred thousand kilometers;
  • When starting in cold weather, an extraneous sound appears from the VVT-i couplings.

Diesel 2.2 2AD-FHV

The 4th generation Toyota Rav 4 also uses a 2AD-FHV diesel engine in combination with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive . Main characteristics of Rav4 2.2 diesel:

  • power – 150;
  • maximum torque – 340;
  • volume - 2231;
  • compression ratio - 15,7;
  • acceleration from zero to one hundred - 10;
  • speed limit – 185;
  • fuel injection – direct Common-rail, DOHC ;
  • average consumption – 6,7;
  • timing drive – chain ;
  • resource - about 300 thousand km .

2AD-FHV
The design of the 2AD-FHV internal combustion engine includes hydraulic compensators , which increase the overall level of reliability. The timing chain drive also does not cause any complaints. At the same time low fuel consumption in relation to engine power. Disadvantages:

  • low particulate filter resource;
  • Increased oil consumption is periodically observed;
  • destruction of the cylinder head gasket is often observed;
  • rapid clogging of the EGR valve.

Review of Toyota Limited V6 268 hp American (2009)

Good afternoon to everyone who has visited the site.

Currently, the family owns 4 cars: Camry, Corolla, Civic and RAV 4. I want to talk a little about the latter.

So... RAV 4 Limited edition, V6, 3.5, leather, bluetooth, dual climate control, satellite radio, MP3, 6 CDs, sunroof, rear seat recliners and much more. I didn’t consciously buy the navigation, it costs about $1,200, I already have a portable one. I took the car a week ago for my wife. Since we do not live in Russia and in mountainous areas, the choice fell on the most powerful 3.5 liter engine. 268 hp, torque 248... All this week I mostly drove the car, which prompted me to share some thoughts about this car. Of course, I don’t pretend to be objective, a week is just that: a week. This device is not sold in Russia, but there are always gray dealers...

The appearance is not bad. I strongly disagree with those who claim that RAV is for women and men look ridiculous in it. The Yaps undoubtedly shifted the exterior of the restyled RAV from feminine to at least unisex. I am pleased that the spare tire is full-size and hangs at the rear in the tradition of real Zhips. It doesn't reduce visibility at all from the rear, but it does add some charm. The trunk door opens from left to right, and the luggage loading height is low. For women of petite size and men of the same size, this is a pleasant surprise.

The interior, frankly speaking, is not for everyone. It is cooler than, for example, SRV, where the interior is strictly classical. The steering wheel is leather and small in size. It turns quite easily, about the same as in my Camry and easier than in the Corolla. Some people are bothered by the small numbers on the speedometer; they could be bigger. The solution of three wells merging into each other is not very good for me, but after traveling I got used to it. To open the car, you don’t need a key fob in the classical sense... there is an owner recognition system and the key fob, like a cell phone, just lies in your bag or pocket. When the owner simply approaches the car at a distance of one meter, the light in the cabin comes on... when he puts his hand on the door handle, the doors open.

The engine starts with a button. If you press it without first pressing the brake pedal, which must be done to start the car, then everything turns on except the engine. The car has a decoder that changes the frequency of the wave from the key fob several hundred times per second to prevent theft. The rear door and trunk windows are tinted, but the front windows are not. In addition to the glove box, there is a small drawer on the bottom and on top for every little thing. The quality of the leather looks okay, but not an Audi, we’ll see what happens in a year.

The rear seats have a recliner function, i.e. you can recline the backrest as far as is comfortable for you and ride reclining. There is enough space in the back for two, even healthy men, but for three it will be a bit narrow. There is enough legroom for a height of up to, according to my estimates, 185 cm. The trunk is not super huge, it won’t fit a bicycle, but it’s enough to bring a sea of groceries. The bike will fit with the rear seats folded down. There really is a lot of space then. For example, bringing a refrigerator is not a problem. Well, the mesh for all sorts of things is removable. The amount of legroom for front seat passengers is adequate. There is such a deep foot passage under the panel and, it seems, you are like a passenger, sitting close to the panel, but your legs are not cramped. Nice.

There are buttons on the steering wheel to control the CD changer and Bluetooth. My wife was especially delighted with the climate control with its function of constantly maintaining the set temperature. But there is also a downside. When the climate control is turned on at, say, 73 degrees Fahrenheit, when the engine is started, a powerful stream of cold or hot air immediately begins to blow, trying to bring the temperature inside the cabin to the specified parameters. It's not always pleasant. Dual climate control. The driver and passenger can adjust different air temperatures for themselves. The bad thing is that there are no air ducts for the rear seats. There is only a socket at the back for connecting all kinds of electrical appliances.

The engine is powerful, without a doubt. There is a problem, however. When starting off, the car jumps somewhat and begins to accelerate intensively. You need to be careful in dosing the force on the gas pedal. It scared my wife a little at first, but now she’s gotten used to it. Consumption of 95 gasoline in the city according to the computer is approximately 13 l/100 km. I don’t know about the route yet, I haven’t driven it yet. Tank volume is only 60 liters. which, frankly speaking, is not enough. Acceleration to 60 miles (96 km) according to the instructions is 7.3 seconds, I think that’s true. I was surprised by the lack of telescopic supports when opening the hood... I have such a feature in my Camry '05... but here you need to use a poker. This is a minus. The engine sound is a low-frequency growl, but not angry. Just by the sound, an experienced driver will understand that there is clearly more than 200 hp under the hood. I like it... Recommended gasoline is 95 and above.

It stands confidently on the road, although it hasn’t driven more than 120-130 km yet. This is the first SUV in the family and it’s somehow unusual to be higher than your downstream neighbors in passenger cars. The RAV is definitely tougher than the Camry, but it doesn’t cross the line where comfort ends. Here is the “Sport” package... yes... When turning, you have to remember that you are not in a passenger car, otherwise the stabilization system will immediately remind you of itself.

There are enough security systems. ABS, stabilization system, traction monitoring system, front and side airbags, assistance both when driving up and down a steep hill, automatically engaging rear-wheel drive when the front one slips, forced locking 50/50 of all wheels, when dialing at speeds above 40 km/h it turns off... but we must remember that all this is unlikely to help in real shit. This is all good in a snow-covered city, which often happens in our country even on light off-road conditions. In my memory, the height of the snow once after a three-day snowfall was equal to the roof of my car... and as for 20-40 cm of snow cover, that’s easy.

In general, this car is an excellent alternative for a not old, but already family man with a couple of kinders, who sometimes doesn’t mind driving with a twinkle and not thinking about minor road inconveniences such as curbs and minor off-road conditions. As an option, it is possible to install a third row of seats. I was sitting there... for children under 12 it will be OK, for an adult to drive a couple of kilometers, then they will throw out a white flag. But all the same, this car can be seven-seater if necessary, if this feature is available. We refused it.

That's all for now... thanks for your attention. In conclusion, a car with a 3.5 engine is completely different... you know what I'm saying, don't you...?

Motors Rav 4 3rd generation

Toyota RAV4 3rd generation (2nd restyling)
Toyota Rav 4 3rd generation was equipped with 2.0 petrol engines of two modifications : 3ZR-FE and 1AZ-FE. The crossover was also aggregated with a petrol 2.4 2AZ.

Engine Rav 4 2.0 1AZ

The two-liter Toyota Rav 4 series 1AZ-FE engine was installed from December 2008 to April 2010 . Parameters of Rav4 2.0 1AZ with four-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive :

The 1AZ engine, in comparison with other internal combustion engines, is characterized by high reliability and efficiency. But provided that very good fuel and oil are used.

2.0 1AZ-FE under the hood of the Rav 4
But characteristic breakdowns also occur:

  • failure of the cylinder head mounting bolts (on runs far beyond 300 thousand km);
  • stretching the timing chain;
  • increased oil consumption;
  • problems with the direct injection system.

Engine 2.4 2AZ

Toyota Rav 4 3rd generation in the 2.4 AT Prestige Long configuration was equipped with a 2AZ-FE power unit in combination with a four-speed automatic transmission . The four-row internal combustion engine has the following characteristics:

  • power – 170;
  • maximum torque – 224;
  • volume - 2362;
  • compression ratio - 9,8;
  • acceleration from zero to one hundred - 10,6;
  • speed limit – 180;

  • consumption in urban, suburban and mixed cycles – 12,6; 7,9; 9,6.

With proper maintenance, the resource of the power unit will be more than 300 thousand km .

The manufacturer allows oil consumption up to 1 liter per 1000 km. Among the disadvantages of the ICE 2.4 2AZ are:

  • failure of the cylinder head mounting bolts (at very high mileages);
  • increased oil consumption;
  • short timing chain life;
  • susceptibility to overheating when sitting in traffic jams or driving at low speeds for a long time;
  • minor but unpleasant problems - pump leakage, failure of the generator overrunning clutch, breakage of the plastic balancing clutch gears, destruction of the generator mounting pads,

Review of Toyota RAV4 2.0 4WD (2016)

Well, I passed the first MOT. It cost me 10,494.25 rubles... this includes a 20% discount on work, damn 10,500 for an oil change!! Expensive, but that's the price of the guarantee.

The process took a little over two hours; they let us into the repair area and showed everything. In general, I was satisfied with the service and the quality of the work performed, I refused to replace the air filters, I will replace them myself, you can go to the maintenance with your own oil, the dealer pours 5w40 Toyota, the price of a liter is 540 rubles.

The RAV4 itself drives well. I experimented with gasoline, I didn’t feel much difference between 92 and 95, perhaps due to the quiet operation. Here are my BC readings:

This is me driving for 13 minutes at a speed of 100.

And this is speed 80:

Well, for statistics, the average consumption and speed for 24 minutes:

This is all at 92 in the month of April. After the maintenance I tried to accelerate it to maximum, the speedometer showed 190, the car begins to “float” a little and strongly “feels” the side wind. Since it happened spontaneously and did not last long, I only noticed the revs were around 5800.

In the fall I appreciated all the delights of ground clearance and AWD, I never installed the winter tires I bought, when the first snow fell, the car’s mileage was 1200 km, the purchase of wheels was not planned in the budget, but factory, brand new ones, balanced in Japan, and even with sensors tire pressure, the hand did not rise to overload. I decided to try driving a regular off-season vehicle. The winter in St. Petersburg was snowy in places, but most of the time it rained, and when ice appeared and snow fell, I drove very carefully. The wife was basically not allowed to drive in such weather. I tried across a snow-covered (not deep, 5-7 cm) field, up a hill, through a quarry, crawled everywhere, of course I didn’t try to “plant” the car. In general, I liked the standard all-season car, the car’s behavior is comparable to that of an Opel Vita with Velcro, a little noisy. I’ll still buy the wheels in the fall, but I don’t want to install spikes, I’ll try to sell them and get some Velcro.

The car’s capabilities for overcoming “off-road” are enough for me, now I drive where I used to get through in a Zhiguli, but didn’t even try to go in a Honda.

Feelings after 10k km:

-noise insulation is still better than in the Civic, and in principle better than in other cars that were or are owned

-the plastic in the interior is so-so, it scratches and rubs easily, while it behaves quietly

-the seats are comfortable, in my configuration there is no adjustable lumbar support, well, it seems that I don’t need it, I drove a 2010 XC90, the passenger one seemed worse to me, the seat is shorter than mine

-as before, I don’t like the lack of backlighting for all the buttons, in the dark you can’t adjust the mirrors, for example, I don’t seem to need the “board” backlight, on the other hand, it’s quite easy and cheap to install

— I figured out how to turn off the radio screen, I have to go into the menu, it’s not very convenient. By the way, you can buy a Chinese Navi module for this radio, it costs 30 thousand rubles. (original 60) navigation + video viewing will appear, or you can install a completely Chinese head on Android for the same money. I'm leaning towards the first option for now.

-excellent protection of thresholds from dirt, but it is necessary to glue the protection to the inside of the threshold, it will quickly be scratched by feet

- the moldings need to be glued in a circle, the “neighbors” have already left 6 (six!!!) door marks in a circle, what kind of “people” are they?

-The paintwork is normal, so far there is only one small chip on the hood, but the car also works in a gentle mode.

-the engine is poorly protected from dirt, it seems that there are seals. Here it’s time for the Japanese to learn from the Koreans, at least from their neighbor’s Cerato, the engine compartment after 3 years and 70t.km. looks cleaner.

-I like driving a CVT, the car is always ready to accelerate, and the acceleration process itself, sometimes the speed drops, but the speed increases, unusual + efficiency. You need to drive off-road carefully, the gearbox must be warmed up and in manual mode in the first conditional gear, and try not to allow long slips. If you don’t force the box, then up to 150t.km. There should be no problems, then replace the chain and another 150t.km. If you don’t change it, it’s a lottery, maybe 200 will pass, or maybe 250, but in any case, the cost of repairs will be much higher.

-heating the windshield left a mixed feeling; during heavy snowfall it helps, but in severe frost (below -20) it warms up for quite a long time after the night; in the same service Ford it warms up faster.

-heating the injectors is not a reason to use bad washer fluid)) at the first frost, they sprayed it with steam for the first time and that’s it... I stood in the underground parking lot for more than an hour, waiting for everything to thaw.

- the climate was still disappointing, in winter my feet were frozen, I had to install forced airflow, and in May, after standing in the sun for a long time, cold air came only after 3-4 minutes, in the Honda it comes almost immediately, but this moment still needs to be observed, because with this spring for now we mostly use the stove)) In winter, the interior quickly warms up.

-Of course you feel more confident on the road, the seating position is high, the hood is quite massive, there are a lot of different systems and airbags

-If the appearance didn’t “catch” you when you bought it, now you still like it.

I won’t write about reliability yet, I’ll keep it in mind. In general, no matter who you talk to, everyone approves of the purchase, the Toyota brand... let’s see what “drive your dream” is made of!

Overall, I like the car, the family is happy!

Thank you for spending your time reading, I hope someone found it interesting, and maybe even useful!

Engine Rav 4 1st generation 2.0 3S-FE

The first generation Toyota Rav 4 was equipped with a 3S-FE internal combustion engine with automatic transmission 4 or manual transmission . The Toyota Rav 4 2.0 engine has the following characteristics:

  • power – 128;
  • maximum torque – 178;
  • volume - 1998;
  • compression ratio - 9,5;
  • acceleration from zero to one hundred - 12,1;
  • speed limit – 166;
  • fuel injection – distributed ;
  • timing drive - a belt that needs to be changed every 100 thousand km ;
  • consumption in urban, suburban and mixed cycles – 12,6; 8,1; 9,8.

The Toyota Rav 4 2.0 3S-FE engine is easy to maintain and reliable. Among the problems, one can note an increase in oil consumption after two hundred thousand kilometers. The timing belt drive rotates the pump and oil pump.

There are no hydraulic compensators, so check valve clearances regularly.
