This spring, a presentation of the updated version of Avensis took place. Unfortunately, the new model will be the last, as sales of the car are very low. Toyota Avensis 2021 will last on assembly lines for only three years, after which it will cease to be produced. This modification will bring together a lot of everything that Toyota has been developing over the years - a sporty design, good interior equipment, as well as decent technical characteristics.
Appearance
The car will still have two body styles – sedan and station wagon. The machine is large in size, which has a positive effect on comfort and capacity.
The front is short, made in a slightly semicircular shape. The hood lid is inclined slightly towards the ground, but does not have any relief. A little lower is a large triangular optic, which is connected by a thin strip of air intake, where the company logo is located in the center.
The entire lower part is occupied by another air intake system - trapezoidal, which is divided into several parts. Another pair of air intakes are located right next to the wheel arches. They are necessary to cool the brakes. There are also round fog lights there.
On the side, the new body has no relief at all. The only element is the wheel arches, which protrude slightly. The car received an increased glass area with a different perimeter line, new mirrors, and a slightly modified skirt.
At the rear, restyling brought: new optics, increased in size; the lower part sticks out strongly forward, which gives the car a sportier look, and where thin strips of brake lights and a single exhaust pipe are located.
Salon
The interior of the new Toyota Avensis 2021 model year is modest, but of high quality. The finishing is not made with the most expensive materials - most elements are decorated with fabric or plastic, but sometimes metal and leather slip through.
The instrument panel begins with a small row of air vents. In the very center there is a medium-sized multimedia screen. It is surrounded on all sides by buttons and small washers.
The tunnel is narrow, but quite long. There was room here for: several connectors for small items, a gear shift knob, several cup holders, as well as a decent-sized armrest.
The steering wheel also received some functionality, as can be seen in the photo. With its help, the driver can adjust the audio system, climate control, cruise control, use the phone and much more. The instrument panel has a standard appearance, where there are round elements on the sides that display speed and revolutions in a traditional arrow form. Between them there is a vertical on-board computer screen, necessary for displaying other useful information.
Each of the chairs is made to bring maximum comfort to whoever sits in it. The finishing can be either fabric or leather. Inside there is a material of medium hardness. The front row has good lateral support, adjustments and heating. The back row is no less comfortable, but not as functional. There is room for three adult passengers.
Interior of Toyota Avensis 2017-2018
Many critics were sure that the interior of the 2017-2018 Toyota Avensis would not change much, but the manufacturer had prepared a surprise for them. The designers completely redesigned the interior and made it much more interesting.
This is a completely new interior, not just modernized with modern elements. The corporate style is clearly visible here and the highest quality materials are noticeable. In general, the interior began to look more expensive and richer than its predecessor could boast of.

The driver, sitting down in his seat, immediately picks up the updated multifunction steering wheel. Immediately behind it there is a fresh tidy with two wells, and between them there is an on-board computer screen with a bright and clear image.

The engine compartment of the Toyota Avensis 2021 is not much different from the previous modification. The engine range consists of five units, which can be either diesel or gasoline. The first include 1.6 and 2.0 liter units, the power of which is 112 and 143 horsepower. Their main advantage is consumption. It is equal to only four liters.
There are three petrol versions – 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 with capacities of 132, 147 and 152 horsepower. Such installations can produce good speeds, spending little fuel - from 5 to 6 liters.
Gasoline engines are paired with a CVT transmission, while diesel engines are equipped with a robotic gearbox with seven gears.

Internal view
The interior of the Toyota Avensis 2021 is not very impressive, but the finishing is at a high level. Mainly high-quality plastic and fabric are used, interspersed with metal and leather. Additional buttons appeared on the steering wheel - which means additional functions: control of air conditioning, audio system, cruise control. The front seats are heated. The back row of seats can comfortably accommodate 3 passengers. The spacious trunk is impressive.
Separately, it is worth noting the high level of noise insulation in the new model. Even at speeds over 100 km/h, the cabin is quiet.
Even the basic package includes air conditioning and a good audio and multimedia system. For an additional fee, it will be possible to add light and rain sensors, safety options, and a motion stabilizer. In “rich” trim levels, the car pleases with a panoramic roof and leather interior.
Competitors
The main competitor of the new product is Ford Mondeo. It is in its favor that residents of many countries make their choice, since it is more comfortable, has a brighter design and approximately the same technical characteristics. But the American has much more reliability than the Japanese, and it costs less both in itself and for maintenance. There are several other competitors - some models from Kia, Hyundai, and also the Mazda 6. All of them also sell better than the Avensis.
Last spring brought several bright discoveries made by Japanese automakers. One of them was the presentation of the 2021 Toyota Avensis. The update of this model, which has been in production for twenty years, was expected by many, and, unfortunately, it was the last. The drop in demand forced Toyota managers to bring the new model to the market for literally three years, after which it will become history. It is not surprising that in the end the Japanese decided to please fans with all the developments over many years of working on the car: a sporty appearance, a comfortable and functional interior, as well as decent technical data.
Exterior
As before, the Toyota Avensis 2021 will be produced in sedan and station wagon form factors. Its dimensions remain quite impressive, which means that driving in a car will still be as comfortable and at ease.
The front part is made completely within the framework of the concept of the model. It is quite short, noticeably rounded, with the hood lid slightly inclined towards the ground without the slightest sign of relief. Under its side parts there are streamlined triangular-shaped headlights, visually connected by a narrow stylish strip of the radiator grille, right in the center of which there is a large chrome “Toyota” sign.
The bumper contains another volumetric air intake in the shape of an irregular trapezoid. This element is divided into sectors by vertical stripes. On the sides of the body kit there are a couple more slots for supplying air to the brakes. These air ducts contain stylish round “eyes” for the fog lights.
In profile, the car looks completely reliefless. However, in the photo you can see smooth thickening of the doors closer to the center and noticeably protruding wheel arches. The area of the side glazing has slightly increased and the shape of the glass has changed. To maintain a unified style, the mirrors and skirt were also slightly redesigned.
The stern of the new body has acquired noticeably larger optics, different glazing, as well as an inflated body kit, adding sportiness and style to the appearance.
Interior
The interior of the new Toyota Avensis 2021 model year is quite simple, but the finishing materials and build quality are at a quite decent level. A significant part of the interior is finished with plastic and fabric, but there are leather and even metal inserts.
Design of the driver's seat
The upper part of the dashboard is occupied by several air ducts. Just below there is a small display of the multimedia system. To the right, left and below it are all sorts of physical buttons, switches and a couple of washers.
Restyling has also taken place in the central tunnel. It became a little narrower, but retained the same length. In this space we managed to place several ports for connecting mobile devices, a couple of very small glove compartments, a handle for operating the transmission and a parking brake, stands for round containers and a comfortable armrest.
The steering wheel has acquired several additional buttons, which has expanded its functionality: in addition to the audio system and telephone, you can now control the operation of the air conditioner and cruise control, as well as a number of less significant options, from the steering wheel. On the instrument panel, which is quite ordinary in appearance, there are two easily readable roundels for the tachometer and speedometer; a vertically oriented on-board computer is literally squeezed between them, capable of providing all the relevant information about the state of the car.
Seats and luggage compartment
Whatever seat of the new Toyota Avensis the passenger finds himself in, he will feel quite comfortable. Depending on the configuration, the seats can be upholstered in fabric or leather, but everything else about them is the same: medium-hard filling, good lateral support, adjustments and heating for the front row.
There is no less space in the back; three adults can easily fit here, but riders will be provided with fewer amenities. The luggage compartment will please both those who like to travel and those who from time to time have to transport large items: in both the sedan and the station wagon it is larger than in cars of the same class.
Second generation - T250
In October 2003, production of the second generation Toyota Avensis station wagon began. It was developed by European employees of Toyota. Starting from the creation of the design, ending with the launch of the assembly line in England. At the same time, the all-wheel drive Toyota Avensis 4WD model was offered directly to the Japanese market. In terms of safety, this model showed one of the best results in the world.

Specifications
Under the hood, the new 2021 Toyota Avensis has not received a major update. Here, as before, there will be gasoline or diesel power units. Toyota Avensis 2018 is the latest version of one of the popular at the time, but already obsolete Japanese sedans and station wagons. The decline in demand for the car led the manufacturing company to the decision to discontinue Avensis. Almost all copies of the model have already been sold out in 2017-2018 at prices ranging from 24-29 thousand dollars. The exterior of the car has changed the most - from the appearance of the sedan and station wagon, you might think that the company has released not a restyling, but a new generation. The car can hardly be compared with the previous version - especially when viewed from the front. Narrowed front optics, a powerful bumper with large air intake openings and original sockets for fog lights make the Avensis design more modern and solid.
There are fewer changes to the side of the car. Here the main attention should be paid to changes in the color scheme and new alloy wheels. At the rear, the main differences from the previous version are new side lights with LEDs, a powerful bumper and an unusual trunk lid.
The car is available in two body styles, which are almost the same in size. Both versions have a width of 181 cm, a height of 148 cm, a wheelbase of 2700 mm and a ground clearance of 140 mm. The difference is noticeable only in the length - in the station wagon it is 30 mm longer (4.75 m versus 4.72 m). The low ground clearance allows you to travel in this car only on smooth city roads.
Technical specifications of Toyota Avensis 2021
Due to the lack of a car on the domestic market, Russians who want to buy a Toyota Avensis can try to bring it from abroad - or wait until the car appears on the secondary market. In Japanese showrooms, the 2021 model was offered only as a station wagon with a 2-liter power unit producing 152 hp. In combined mode, this engine consumes 6.8 liters of gasoline and accelerates the vehicle to a speed of 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.
Motorists in Europe are luckier. For them, the company has released several modifications with the following engines:
petrol 1.6-liter with a performance of 112 hp. (consumption 6.2 l in mixed mode);
another 1.8 liter gasoline engine with a power of 147 hp. (6.4 l);
1.6-liter diesel power unit with a performance of 132 hp. and fuel consumption 4.6 l;
2.0-liter diesel engine with a power of 143 hp (4.6 liters of fuel per 100 km).
The volume of the luggage compartment of the car also depends on the version. The trunk of a European sedan can accommodate 509 liters of cargo. In station wagon models, the compartment already holds 543 liters, and when folding the second row of seats, you can increase the space by more than 2 times.
The car's safety level is quite high. Although the 2018 model was not tested in NCAP tests. But according to the results of past inspections, it received 5 stars out of 5. The restyled and latest version will be protected by modern driver assistance and safety systems.
Cost of the new item
Unfortunately, this car will not be sold on our automobile market. Moreover, it is not yet clear whether the manufacturer will change its decision or not. But this Japanese project will be successfully implemented in neighboring Ukraine.
In addition, it turned out that the official price tags for the 2017-2018 Toyota Avensis model in the new body (photos, configurations and prices) have not yet been established. For now, we can rely solely on the cost of the previous generation. So, a sedan costs from 920,000 rubles, and a station wagon costs 970,000 rubles.
It is logical to assume that installing such a rich list of equipment on a new product will entail an increase in the cost of the car. It is assumed that the price will start from 1,000,000 rubles.
Competitors of Toyota Avensis 2021
The main competitors of the car are Ford Mondeo and Renault Laguna. This list also includes the Hyundai i40 and some Kia models that are more affordable. According to experts, it was high competition that led to a decrease in the popularity of Toyota, the cost of which turned out to be higher compared to competitors with similar parameters.
When comparing Avensis with Renault Laguna, it is worth noting that the car of the French brand looks more attractive in appearance. Another advantage of Renault is better fuel consumption. Reliability and equipment speak in favor of Avensis, although Laguna also has many useful options. A common feature of the car is its absence from the Russian market and discontinuation of production.
A more serious competitor for the Avensis is the Ford Mondeo. Moreover, it continues to be produced and is available in Russian showrooms. The cost of this sedan is slightly higher than that of Toyota, but it outperforms the discontinued Japanese model in almost all respects. With similar dimensions, Ford is distinguished by greater reliability, high quality materials and better handling. Other advantages of the American car include more powerful power units, although only three are offered for the latest generation Mondeo.
First generation - T220
The production of Toyota Avensis, including station wagon, started in 1997. It became the successor to the Carina E model. In 2000, the model underwent a restyling, which significantly expanded the functionality of the car. At the same time, practically no external changes occurred. Until the moment of restyling, the differences in the configurations consisted only in the modification of the installed engine. After updating the model, Terra and Sol trim levels became available. Maximum equipment included heated leather seats. Production of the first generation Toyota Avensis station wagon continued until 2003.

The first generation Toyota Avensis wagon was equipped with various modifications of power units. They will be discussed further. The first Toyota Avensis station wagon models were equipped with the following gasoline engines:
- 2.0 3S-FE with manual transmission 5, 128 horsepower. Sixteen-valve in-line engine with four cylinders and multipoint fuel injection;
- 2.0 liter 3S-FE with four-speed automatic transmission. AI-92 gasoline is used as fuel. Its consumption per hundred kilometers is: 11.5 liters in the urban cycle and 6.8 liters when driving in suburban mode;
- 1.6 4A-FE with manual transmission 5 (110 hp). Four-cylinder in-line engine with four valves per cylinder. This power unit also used distributed fuel injection. Maximum torque is achieved at 4800 rpm and is equal to 145 N*m.
The Toyota T220 station wagon, updated in 2000, was equipped with only a 2.0-liter engine on the Russian market. In Europe, diesel engines were also installed on the T220: V 2.0 l 2C-TE (power 90 hp) and V 2.0 l 1CD-FTV (110 hp).
