The car had to turn out to be self-sufficient, and not an “under-crossover-over-universal”. In light of Venza's upcoming entry into the Russian market, we had the opportunity to find out how possible this is and whether the Americans succeeded.

In terms of market positioning, the Venza should fill the previously empty niche between the RAV4 and Highlander models. Despite the more affordable price tag, the Venza is even longer than the Highlander, but is lower than it and has a millimeter less ground clearance.

The panoramic section inside the rearview mirror may just be a cheap substitute for an electronic blind spot monitoring system, but it seemed even more convenient to me. Thanks to these mirrors, Venza has no blind spots in principle. The glove box is quite roomy. In the central tunnel there is a sliding compartment with different-sized cup holders and an oblong niche in which it is convenient to put a phone. A small monochrome screen displays on-board computer data and a few settings of Venza systems. The display of the multimedia system is small and has simple graphics, but is located at a convenient height. The climate system control unit is organized a little unclearly, and the seat heating controls located underneath it look alien, as if they were installed after purchasing the car.

For a potential Venza buyer, the interior should be an important factor, so before you hit the road, let's take a look around. The interior of the car is typically family-American. The automatic selector is located high, there are cup holders and bottle holders everywhere, and the seats are clearly designed for large riders. In trim levels with light leather interiors, there is brown or black plastic “wood” trim. To be honest, black interiors with carbon fiber inserts look simpler, but much nicer. Once you try to sharply twist the car into a turn, you will no longer want to do it forever. To begin with, Venza will seem to ignore the control impulse, then sit down on the front outer wheel, and only then will the very maneuver that you planned an eternity ago begin. Nightmare? On the one hand, yes. But don't forget - we're in a family car. She doesn’t need heightened reactions, stiffness of the suspension and the embrace of hard-stone chairs - in case her mother-in-law gets seasick!

Engineers claim that adaptation to Russian conditions does not imply changes in character - only the strength of individual chassis components will increase to repel the attacks of domestic potholes. The overall feeling should remain the same - a rather imposing, but very comfortable car.

At a steady pace, the sound of the 2.7 engine wanders on the edge of audibility, very rarely crossing it. Under full throttle, the cabin is filled with a quiet but confident bass sound, quite pleasant for a four-cylinder engine. It's a pity that the acceleration dynamics cannot match him. The power of 187 forces is enough to feel normal in a calm rhythm of movement, no matter on the highway or in the city. But if you need sharp accelerations, especially from medium speeds, you shouldn’t expect a miracle.
