The new fifth generation Toyota RAV4 with the index XA50 was released in 2018 at the New York Auto Show. Afterwards the model went on sale. The model has already reached the Russian market and local production has been organized. In comparison with the previous generation, the car has changed dramatically, becoming not only better, but also changing in image.
Design
The appearance of the crossover has become much more aggressive, this was done either because of fashion trends, or to get rid of the stigma of a women's car that has haunted the model since the third generation. The car will initially attract attention with its aggression and stand out from its competitors.
At the front, the appearance is created by narrow LED head optics with outlining DRL lines. The inner corners of the headlights flow into the thin lines of what appears to be a radiator grille, connected by the company logo. The main grille is positioned lower with 4 horizontal bars in the style of the new GLE. The bumper protrudes from the optics; at its edges there are vertical inserts with PTF. Below is a huge plastic trim, emphasizing the design of the RAV4 2020-2021 and hinting at off-road capabilities.
The style of the front end in the radiator grille and the form of installation of fog lights vary depending on the configuration. The same applies to other parties. The profile looks incredibly cool due to the lines going from the bumper to the A-pillars, the lower lines emphasizing the shape of the sills. The wheel arches are framed in plastic with rough transitions. Moving higher, the already boring feature of the black spoiler support, from which the strip goes to the pillars, looks nice. On other trims, the entire top and A-pillar are made of black plastic.
Roof rails can be decorative, or you can install large real racks under an additional trunk. By the way, the rear-view mirrors are mounted on a foot; their shape is pleasant upon closer inspection.
The rear of the Toyota RAV4 XA50 crossover resembles a Jeep; this is done by narrow headlights connected to a thick chrome insert. The huge trunk lid at the top is equipped with a spoiler, which stands on black linings. The spoiler is traditionally equipped with a brake light. The large bumper at the bottom received a huge plastic trim with reflectors and two exhaust pipes under it.
The car looks beautiful, reminiscent of its dear brother Lexus. The dimensions have increased significantly:

New salon
Inside, a lot has changed for the better, except for the steering wheel. The 3-spoke steering wheel is the first thing the driver sees, but it has practically not been changed. This is the same steering wheel with many buttons, but comfortable.
The interior is upholstered in leather, the color of which is chosen by the buyer; in minimal configurations, the upholstery is fabric. The manufacturer has improved sound insulation and the quality of plastic; there are no squeaks now. Inside the new Toyota RAV4 2020-2021 there are 5 seats, front seats with light lateral support, attached high headrest and heating as standard. There is a simple sofa in the back.
Let's return to the driver's seat. Depending on the configuration, the style of the dashboard changes. The regular version has a classic analog instrument panel with a large display in the middle. The outermost sensors will remain at the top, and an informative large display will appear in the middle, simulating a speedometer.
The center console now features a 7-inch base and 8-inch Entune 3.0 touchscreen multimedia display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Multimedia is coupled with a JBL audio system with 11 speakers and a power of 800 watts. Below is a separate climate control adjustment unit with a monitor and two huge adjustment dials. Next is the button to turn off the Toyota RAV4 stabilization system and the touch buttons for heated seats.
The tunnel in the depths has a cigarette lighter, USB and AUX ports. Next you can see a stylish, massive gear lever, next to which there are buttons for selecting driving modes:

Next are niches for small items and an armrest. The trunk is large - 580 liters, and for practicality the rear bench folds in a 60:40 ratio, increasing the compartment to 1189 liters. There is a system for opening with a wave of the foot.

The crossover consists of new petrol engines of the Dynamic Force family, and a hybrid is also offered. These are weak naturally aspirated engines, the power of which is sufficient for city driving.
- The base 2-liter engine produces 175 horsepower at 6600 rpm with 208 H*m of torque available from 4300 rpm. Its dynamics and fuel consumption depend on the gearbox; see the table for detailed characteristics.
- A 2.5-liter engine with a power of 205 horses at 6600 rpm, and a torque of 250 units, available at 5000 rpm. Its minimum urban consumption is at least 9 liters.
- 2.5-liter engine with an electric motor (not sold in Russia) - 218-horsepower or 222-horsepower unit with 221 H*m of torque. The trick of the hybrid is excellent fuel economy - 4.4 liters of fuel consumption according to the passport in the city.
There are three gearboxes, which gives the buyer a good choice. The base is equipped with a classic 6-speed manual transmission; there is also a CVT variator and a new 8-speed automatic transmission in the lineup. Chassis Toyota RAV4 2020-2021
Simple configurations are front-wheel drive, but optionally the gearbox transmits torque to the rear axle through the Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD all-wheel drive system. The crossover was built on the TNGA K platform - a modular platform on which the Toyota C-HR and other company cars are built. The suspension is completely independent with MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear. The platform made it possible to lower the center of gravity, improve weight distribution, increase body rigidity by 57% and give the car better off-road geometry.
The brake system is disc, ventilated only at the front with many electronic assistants for better braking.

The car is offered to Russian buyers in 4 trim levels. The basic price tag is more expensive than the previous generation - 1,756,000 rubles for the “Standard” package, equipped with:
