What should be the fuel consumption of the Land Cruiser Prado 120

Fuel consumption is one of the main indicators that future car owners look at when choosing a car. And not only when choosing an economy class passenger car, but also when buying an aggressive SUV, which includes the Japanese Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 series. These cars are produced with different types of engines, so their fuel costs will also vary. These indicators also depend on operating conditions. What and how affects consumption, we will look into it below.

A little history of the car

Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 series began to be produced at a Japanese plant in 2002. The history of this model begins in 1987, and the new product, like its predecessors, has gained great popularity. For the 120 model, the series has already become the third generation.

You can meet the Prado in almost any country. Everywhere there will be mostly positive reviews about the SUV. Many fans of this car at that time switched to it from the second generation, because it was built on the platform of its predecessor - the 90 series.

Reference! In turn, both of these cars are created on the Toyota 4Runner platform. This technology has proven itself to be extremely reliable, which is why it has spread to several series.

Land Cruiser Prado 120 was produced in various modifications, and differed not only in the power unit, but also in the body. Both five-door and three-door versions were presented on the market. Depending on the body, the dimensions of the car also varied. The short version was 2455 mm long, and the standard version was 2790 mm.

On the five-door version, three rows of seats appeared, and the last seats could be folded, freeing up space for a spacious luggage compartment. On the market, the Prado of the third family was supplied with 7 types of engines. However, only 4 were presented in Russia, of which 3 were gasoline and one diesel.

However, since the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 series remained only on the secondary market, now you can find a car of any configuration and engine type. Here are the engines installed on Land Cruiser Prado cars from 2002-2009. release:

  • 2TR-FE - (gasoline) 4 cylinders, in-line, 2.7 l, 163 horsepower;
  • 3RZ-FE - (gasoline) 4 cylinders, in-line, 2.7 l, 150 horsepower;
  • 5VZ-FE - (gasoline) 6 cylinders, V-shaped, 3.4 l, 185 horsepower;
  • 1GR-FE - (gasoline) 6 cylinders, V-shaped, 4 l, 249 horsepower;
  • 1KD-FTV - (diesel) 4 cylinders, in-line, 16 valves with a turbine and a battery fuel supply system, 3 l, until the end of the summer of 2004 it rolled off the assembly line with a power of 163 horsepower, in subsequent years - with a power of 166 horsepower (for the European market it came with a power of 173 horsepower);
  • 1KZ-TE - (diesel) 4 cylinders, in-line, 3 l, 8 valves with turbine and fuel injection pump in mechanical mode;
  • 5L-E - (diesel) 4 cylinders, in-line, 3 liters, 95 horsepower.

Engines such as 2TR-FE, 3RZ-FE, 5VZ-FE, 1KZ-TE and 5L-E were not supplied to the Russian and European markets. They were intended only for the domestic market and were exported to America. Moreover, the 5VZ-FE was produced only with right-hand drive and did not go beyond the Land of the Rising Sun. Motors 1KZ-TE and 5L-E were sent to Australia, the Middle East and South America.

Interesting fact! The cars were equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4- and 5-speed automatic transmission. All SUVs have all-wheel drive technology, which can be permanent or switchable. However, the latter is only possible on versions with a manual transmission, with engines that went to the Middle East. This is due to sandy areas, in which this function turned out to be indispensable.

On series where permanent all-wheel drive is installed, there is a differential in the central part, designed using the Torsen system. This mechanism divides the power supplied to the axles and distributes it across the axles in a ratio of 40 to 60 percent. Moreover, a large load falls on the rear axle. If desired, the differential is locked, which increases the vehicle's cross-country ability.

An independent shock-absorbing system is installed at the front, and a spring-dependent one at the rear axle.

Production of the Land Cruiser Prado 120 series ceased in 2009.

Prado 150 diesel 3l: engine characteristics and owners’ opinions

The 1KD-FTV brand motor has been produced by Toyota Motor Corporation since 2000. The main part of the crank mechanism is made of cast iron. Contains 4 cylinders, each with 4 valves. Engine capacity 2982 cc. see 109 hp motor. With. Diesel fuel consumption is 10.4 liters per 100 km in the city and 6.7 liters per 100 km on the highway. Engine oil content is 7.4 liters.

The diesel engine was designed for Toyota minivans and SUVs.

To improve environmental performance, an exhaust gas recirculation valve was installed.

Before the 2014 modernization, some problems were observed:

  1. Black smoke, vibration, knocking when the engine is running, loss of power. These are signs that a crack has formed in the piston.
  2. Low oil pressure and white smoke. The reason lies in problems with the copper washers. When replacing with aluminum, the problem resolves itself.

The designers’ work was not in vain and over time they managed to correct frequently occurring problems.

Reviews:

Alexandra. The modernization of the old engine took place by adding the most gentle mode to the Common Rail system. The result was a durable motor, but weak. By installing TuningBox, power is increased to 204 hp. s., but then the guarantee is removed. In principle, it is easy to remove before the service station. When using the chip, the engine suffers, but will only let the second or third owner know. I think it’s a plus that the automatic transmission works well, it’s quite lively and smart. A manual shift mode is also included, but there are no paddle shifters.

Nik_le. For a car weighing 2.5 tons, the engine is weak. It rumbles like a tractor. To make life easier, I installed TuningBox and PedalBooster. In cold weather it starts without difficulty. It’s a little annoying that when overtaking at speeds over 100 km/h you need a large margin of distance. Diesel fuel consumption is 15 liters per 100 km in the city and 9 liters per 100 km on the highway. This is my first diesel car, I think the next one will also be a diesel.

What affects and how is fuel consumption calculated?

The Prado is valued by car enthusiasts for its durable frame construction, all-wheel drive, high level of comfort in the cabin and while driving, excellent cross-country ability and long service life of the main components and assemblies.

The 120 series was equipped with 4 types of engines. They all differ in volume, power and type of fuel:

  • 2.7 l (gasoline), 150 horsepower, 14.2 s to 100 km/h;
  • 3.4 l (gasoline), 185 horsepower, 10.9 s to 100 km/h;
  • 4 l (gasoline), 249 horsepower, 9.1 s to 100 km/h;
  • 3 l (diesel), 163 horsepower, 12.7 s to 100 km/h.

Based on the volume and power of the power unit, we can already say that fuel consumption will vary significantly. But driving style also plays an important role in the issue of fuel use. The more aggressive it is, the faster the tank will be depleted.

Consumption is usually measured based on expenditure per 100 kilometers. This indicator is studied in three cross-coefficients:

  • movement along the highway;
  • driving in city mode;
  • mixed cycle.

As for the engines of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 series, based on official data from the manufacturer, the consumption per 100 kilometers is as follows for a mixed driving cycle:

  • gasoline 2.7 liters - 11.5 liters;
  • gasoline 3.4 liters - 12.5 liters;
  • gasoline 4 liters - 12.6 liters;
  • diesel 3 liters - 10.5 liters.

In addition to the driving mode, the use of fuel will be influenced by the weather, time of year, the operation of various devices, and the surface on which the car moves. In winter, the car’s “appetite” increases significantly due to overcoming snow obstacles, frequent movement on loose snow, acceleration and braking on icy roads. In addition, the stove is constantly running, which also affects consumption. This figure can be up to 25 liters per 100 kilometers even when the temperature drops to just -3...+2 degrees Celsius. This fact often frightens car owners.

Attention! In summer, an increase in consumption may be due to the constant operation of the air conditioner. Sometimes drivers test their Prado for cross-country ability and durability, crossing off-road terrain, overcoming forest or mountain trails. Such sorties also increase fuel consumption.

The maximum figure recorded in a serviceable Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is 17 liters in highway mode. In the city, average consumption is 10.2 liters of gasoline and 8.1 liters of diesel fuel.

Toyota Land Cruiser owner reviews

Generation 70

  • Yaroslav, St. Petersburg, 3.0 130 l. With. I'm happy with the car, this car is not for everyone, but for real men. Powerful frame, high maneuverability and high ground clearance. Tires of any size can be supplied. This Toyota is unlikely to be suitable for the city; I keep it in the garage at the dacha. A 130-horsepower diesel engine consumes from 10 to 13 liters.
  • Kirill, Nizhny Novgorod region, 2.4 85 l. With. I bought myself an SUV purely for off-road use. A machine specifically for these tasks, the Prado has a good supply of traction at low speeds, like an electric motor. At high speeds the car turns sour, in the city it consumes 12 liters, and in deep ruts it turns out to be 14 liters.
  • Mikhail, Ryazan, 3.0 130 l. With. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 1994, current mileage 190 thousand km. Equipped with a three-liter diesel engine that delivers all its 130 horsepower. I like the car, I maintain it myself, I have my own garage. Average consumption is 12-13 liters.
  • Yaroslav, 2.4 85 l. With. diesel. I have a 1996 Prado, I bought it second hand. We needed a comfortable and inexpensive SUV with excellent cross-country ability. I found a three-door version in good condition, current mileage is under 220 thousand km. Overall I’m happy with the car, the car copes with its responsibilities with a bang. Consumes 12 liters per hundred. Under the hood is a fairly economical 85-horsepower diesel engine; in the city you can use it in 10 liters. Off-road - the highest consumption is 12 liters.
  • Dmitry, Tomsk, 3.0 130 l. With. diesel. A car for all occasions, I drive it and don’t complain. With a range of 120 thousand km, the Prado does not present any surprises off-road; it has a durable chassis and a powerful frame structure. Indestructible car. Equipped with a three-liter engine, the dynamics are quite sufficient. But the first generation Prado was not created for speed; it has a much more serious purpose. Off-road, the car consumes 15-16 liters.
  • Alexander, Yaroslavl, 2.4 90 l. With. diesel. An ideal car for off-road travel and long-distance travel. I have a 1992 Prado, and I wouldn’t mind going on a picnic, hunting, etc. with it. The Prado is a real business executive, comfortable and economical. Reliability is at a high level, especially the chassis. Average fuel consumption reaches 12 liters.
  • Karina, Sochi. 2.4 90 l. With. The car was made in 1995, bought second hand and in good condition. The previous owner is a smart guy who understands Japanese all-terrain vehicles. I got the car almost new, at least the diagnostics showed everything was normal. Consumption is 12-13 liters.

Generation 90

With 2.7 engine

  • Georgy, Stavropol region. I have a 1998 Prado with 150 thousand km on it. I like the car, I praise Toyota for its brutal, classic off-road design. The car is recognizable even from afar. Good maneuverability, high level of comfort. The cabin is surprisingly quiet, at least with the 2.7 petrol engine. I installed additional sound insulation, the engine is practically inaudible. The car is reliable and does not bother you with breakdowns. The average consumption is 16 liters in the urban cycle, the maximum is 18 liters.
  • Oleg, Nizhny Novgorod region. The best aftermarket car among its competitors. Still, the Land Cruiser Prado is a reference car. Pleases with its original brutal style and Japanese simplicity in the cabin. Under the hood is a 2.7-liter engine that produces 140 diesel power. In the city the consumption is 12 liters, on the highway – at least 9-10 liters.
  • Mikhail, Bryansk. I'm happy with the car, it's a full-fledged SUV, which is also very comfortable in the city. Of course, it is for leisurely driving, and the 2.7-liter engine is designed for quiet driving. Consumes a maximum of 18 liters, you can only save on the highway. There the consumption is at 10 liters, I fill it with 92nd gasoline. I service it myself, I buy spare parts for disassembly. I would like to note the low repair costs, which is very important in long-term operation.

With 3.0 engine

  • Leonid, Murmansk. The car suits me in all respects, I drive comfortably. The power of the three-liter engine is more than 120 horses, which is more than enough for off-road use. There the consumption is at 14 liters, after all, the Land Cruiser Prado is not the best, it has worthy competitors. For example, this is the Mitsubishi Pajero. True, to be honest, Padzherik is even more gluttonous with a similar engine. In the city, the car consumes 13 liters. Prado, produced in 1999, bought from the last batch, then the car was sold at a discount in the most top-end configuration.
  • Alexander, Arkhangelsk. It's a good car, I only service it in the garage. Spare parts are easy to get, you don’t have to wait too long. In the urban cycle, Toyota needs at least 12 liters.
  • Ruslan, Kaliningrad. The best used SUV today, I drive it and have no complaints. The car impressed me, I especially praise the powerful three-liter diesel engine with an output of 140 horsepower. Toyota also has the ability to persuade and, in my opinion, this is the most important quality in a full-fledged SUV. I mean that Prado impresses with its smooth ride and reliable handling, and due to this it has a reputation as a quality brand. Actually, that’s why I bought a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. In the bustle of the city, the SUV consumes 14 liters of 95 gasoline, I have an LPG.
  • Boris, Krasnoyarsk. The car pleases with its dynamics, and at the same time is very economical in the urban cycle. If possible, I only fill with high-quality fuel. From here I can conclude that Toyota consumes 12-14 liters per 100 km.
  • Alexander, Murmansk. I have owned a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado since 2015, I bought the car on a used market. The car has driven for about 300 thousand km, I drive purely off-road. You can still make a small upgrade, although now the consumption is a maximum of 18 liters/100 km.
  • Daniil, Bryansk. A typical city SUV, one of the most prominent representatives of SUVs. Fuel consumption is 14 liters per hundred.

With 3.4 engine

  • Nikolay, Vorkuta. The car is ideal for harsh conditions, and with a mileage of about 140 thousand km, it confidently accelerates to the first hundred. Although this Prado is intended for everything else, its dynamics are a secondary matter. In the city, consumption is a maximum of 15 liters/100 km. Large and roomy interior, comfortable driving position, length and height adjustments are sufficient. I have the option with a 3.4-liter engine that produces 180 horsepower, works with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
  • Oleg, Peter. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has traveled 170 thousand km, the actual mileage is the same. A car for all occasions. A comfortable and versatile SUV for daily trips, and it’s not for nothing that Russians fell in love with it. Now this is almost the best-selling car in the country in the premium class. Consumption in the city is 12-13 liters per 100 km, on the highway it is possible to keep within 10 liters. A three-liter diesel engine makes its way into the cabin, it is very noisy and growls like an animal, and at the same time sets you up for a dynamic game.
  • Yaroslav, Petrozavodsk. The Prado came in handy for my work; I transport local residents from the private sector to hard-to-reach areas where they don’t want buses. Under the hood is a three-liter internal combustion engine, which needs 12 l/100 km. The car is from 1999, with a mileage of 100 thousand km.
  • Denis, Irkutsk. I praise the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado for its exemplary handling on any surface. A full-fledged foreign car for every day, and this even with the ability to properly push it off-road. My Land Cruiser will confidently overcome the deep ruts soaked in the sweat of the UAZ Patriot. A large trunk and a full-fledged five-seater sofa, acceptable finishing materials and convenient controls.

Generation 120

With 2.7 engine

  • Nikolay, Leningrad region. I bought a Toyota Prado in 2005, the car was produced in 2002. At that time it was a fresh copy, and was sold at almost the price of a new one. In this regard, I had to overpay, and I didn’t really feel sorry for it, the car is in good condition to this day. Still, the Japanese are the best representatives of the world automobile industry; they know how to make high-quality cars. I have a version with a 2.7-liter naturally aspirated engine, with a mileage of 128 thousand km. I drive comfortably mainly in the city; I rarely go off-road. Although I have no doubt that the Prado is capable of driving in deep ruts and even competing with the UAZ Patriot. Average consumption is 12-13 liters.
  • Mikhail, Tomsk. The car is satisfactory, it has covered more than 170 thousand km on our roads. Impenetrable suspension, effective brakes, plenty of space in the cabin. In general, there are many advantages. Among the shortcomings, I note mediocre handling and large rolls in corners - in general, these are typical disadvantages for frame cars. Prado consumes 10-14 liters per 100 km.
  • Dmitry, St. Petersburg. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a car for all occasions, ideal for all types of roads. I am satisfied in all respects. Top-end equipment, the cabin has all the options, including all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. Consumption is no more than 15 liters.
  • Karina, Nizhny Novgorod region. I have owned the Toyota for five years, during which time I have driven 88 thousand km. Before this, the mileage was 64 thousand km, I am the second owner. I bought it second hand in 2004, it’s a great car for off-roading, the consumption there is 15 liters, in the city it’s about 13 liters.
  • Nikolay, Lipetsk. I bought a Toyota specifically for off-road driving. The car is from 2002. Naturally, I bought a supported version. Mileage under 150k, engine 2.7. All important units are working normally, you can pile on. Consumption 13-14 liters.
  • Denis, Priozersk. The best car for off-road use, in these conditions Toyota reveals all its advantages. There are only one downsides on the highway, except that I’ll note the exemplary smoothness of the ride. Consumption 13 liters per 100 km.
  • Oleg, Belgorod. The car is from 2005 and has traveled 90 thousand km. I only use it off-road; it’s cramped in the city. For normal conditions I have Focus. I need a Toyota purely for pleasure, to spend the weekend. I like the car, it doesn’t break down in combat conditions. Sturdy frame, reliable construction. The 2.7 engine consumes an average of 14-15 liters.
  • Maxim, Bryansk. Great car, I have the 2004 version. I'm the third owner. To select a suitable specimen, I called an expert. Still, this is a delicate matter - choosing the Japanese, and of this level at that. In general, I can say I was lucky with the car. The previous owners took care of the car, had it serviced at dealers and did not resort to handicraft methods. And I do the same. In the urban cycle you can keep within 13 liters, after all, the 2.7-liter naturally aspirated one loves to eat fuel.
  • Vasily, Saratov. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2003, a reliable and dynamic car. I use it every day, the car has never let me down on a long journey. The 2.7-liter engine consumes 12-14 liters, but there is an LPG installed in the trunk.

With 3.0 engine

  • Nikita, Stavropol region. The car is impressive, reliable and unpretentious. For all occasions. Mileage 200 thousand km, breakdowns are mostly minor. Toyota Prado is used in the city; everyone allows and respects it on the roads. With a 2.7-liter it consumes 12-13 liters.
  • Julia, Kyiv. Prado 2006, I thought for a long time about the choice - either the Land Cruiser 120 or the more compact Prado. Off-road they are approximately equal, even the latter is a little better due to its light weight. In the end, the choice fell on him, I drive comfortably. Consumption maximum 13 liters.
  • Sergey, Ekaterinoslavl. In my opinion, this is the best offer in the class in terms of quality and price ratio. The Prado impressed me from the first day of the train, I drive comfortably. Handling is excellent. I probably won’t sell Toyota just yet; after all, such cars are very rare now. Reliable naturally aspirated engine without any turbines, smooth operation of the manual transmission, comfortable and ergonomic interior. Everything is done simply and clearly, it doesn’t require getting used to. Average consumption is 13 liters per 100 km. The three-liter unit is economical and has a large reserve of traction, which is very convenient when driving uphill.
  • Yaroslav, Stavropol region. The car is ideal for everyday trips, I drive it and have no complaints. I’ve already gotten used to it, I’ve studied the car thoroughly, and I service it myself. In the city, the car consumes 12-13 liters per hundred, on the highway it is 11 liters.
  • Igor, Rostov. I have owned Toyota Prado since 2007, I bought the car in new condition. We needed a full-fledged SUV, and one that could comfortably move around the city. I think I made a good investment. I immediately put gas on, the consumption is 15 liters.
  • Mikhail, St. Petersburg. This SUV helps me out everywhere, it has good handling, and in general Toyota behaves reliably on any road surface. Fuel consumption with a 3.0 engine is 12 liters per hundred.
  • Nikita, Dnepropetrovsk. Toyota Land Cuirser Prado is a durable and hardy car for every day. I'm happy with the car, this SUV has great off-road potential. You can install tires of any size thanks to the wide wheel arches. Cons: the steering wheel is frankly empty; with every turn the car tilts, which is not very comfortable and even a little scary. In general, the scary rolls eventually scared me away, and I sold the car. Still, I am a favorite not only of off-road, but also of dynamics. That's not what Toyota is for. Its 3-liter engine consumes 13 liters per hundred.

With 4.0 engine

  • Alexander, Irkutsk. My SUV is ideal for off-road and even in the city. A decent option for family and work. I praise the full five-seater interior, the quality of materials, equipment and large trunk. I have a version with a powerful naturally aspirated 4.0 engine. The engine consumes an average of 16-17 liters per 100 km. For everyday driving, the dynamics are sufficient with reserve, acceleration to hundreds in 11 seconds, top speed under 200 km/h. The car is worth the money. In the extra-urban cycle, the Land Cruiser consumes 12-13 liters.
  • Konstantin, Ekaterinoslavl. I'm happy with the car, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado pleasantly surprised me off-road and around the city. Not bad handling for such a car, and with such and such an engine. On a straight line, the Prado holds the road well and does not wander from side to side, unlike its competitors. On the highway you can keep within 11 liters.
  • Denis, Moscow region. It's a normal car, it beats all its rivals in terms of comfort. But in terms of equipment, everything is at an extremely low level. I'm not talking about options, but about performance. The old 4-liter engine is powerful, but too power-hungry; in the city it needs more than 14 hp.
  • Igor, Stavropol region. Land Cruiser Prado is one of the best offers on the used market. In terms of geometric cross-country ability, my Toyota blows everyone away. And at the same time, the machine is reliable, with a proven design. The 4.0 engine is generally almost eternal. Consumption in the city is about 15-16 liters.
  • Dmitry, Irkutsk. I'm happy with the car, a typical SUV for city and country trips. There is nothing unusual about him, just like all Japanese. And this is a plus, you get used to the car quickly. Consumption is 15-17 liters/100 km.
  • Boris, Petrozavodsk. The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has become a worthy replacement for the Chevrolet Niva, which I bought in 2002. Prado 2008, bought in new condition. The car is worth the money; over nine years it has proven itself to be a reliable and unpretentious car. Spare parts are only original, maintenance is only scheduled, there have never been any unpredictable breakdowns. Japanese technology works like a clock. Consumption in the city is 17 liters.
  • Nikita, Zhitomir. Together with Toyota, we have experienced a lot; I am actively involved in tourism. Traveled almost all of Russia, including Siberia. Toyota Prado is a strong car, and it doesn’t matter what kind of road is underneath it, off-road or smooth surface. There is dynamics, there is energy intensity and all the options in the cabin. Consumption 15-17 l.
  • Alexey, Novosibirsk. I made sure that my Toyota is well adapted for cold climates, the car is just right for our conditions. The 4-liter engine starts with half a turn and consumes 17 liters.
  • Vitaly, Krasnoyarsk. The best SUV among competitors, I bought it in 2007. I like the car, I drive comfortably on all roads, there are no obstacles for me. The car consumes 16l.
  • Ekaterina, Sverdlovsk. Cruiser Prado is the optimal car for off-road conditions, on which it can drive quickly. I praise the energy-intensive suspension. Because of the voracious engine, I installed an LPG, and now the costs have been halved. In the city the car consumes 16-17 liters.
  • Nikolay, St. Petersburg. I have a 2004 Prado, I am the first owner. I am not going to sell, because I think that there is nothing else suitable for my needs. Or maybe I just got used to Toyota, learned all its pros and cons. Reliable and powerful car, with impenetrable suspension. Consumption in the city is 16 liters, I fill it with 95th gasoline.
  • Yuri, Kaliningrad. I have a 2005 Land Cruiser Prado with a 4-liter engine. Its power of 250 horses is enough for most needs, and the dynamics are in perfect order. The only thing I’m not happy about is the fuel consumption; in the city I get 18 liters, which is a lot for a modern car. In this regard, European cars with a turbine are more preferable. And yet, I preferred the Japanese - I love them for their reliability and adaptability to Russia. On the highway, the Prado consumes 12 liters per hundred, I use 95 gasoline.

Generation 150

With 2.7 engine

  • Maxim, Lipetsk. I have been using Prado since 2010, I am satisfied with the car in all respects. With a 2.7 engine, power 163 hp. With. Basic equipment, with manual transmission. Average fuel consumption is 14 liters per hundred. Good elasticity of the motor, which is almost inaudible in the cabin. I liked the smooth ride, impenetrable suspension and effective brakes. I'm happy with the car, the car inspires respect. On the roads everyone is respected and let through. Reliable and unpretentious car, serviced by dealers.
  • Nikolay, Lipetsk. I have a 2009 Prado Cruiser, I bought it on pre-order, and became one of the first Russian buyers of this car. I still use it, because I think that this car has no analogues. At least in terms of price and quality. I have a 2.7-liter version with manual transmission, consumption in the city is 13-14 liters.
  • Alexander, Tomsk. A car for all occasions, it pleases with its dynamics and ordinary abilities off ordinary roads. I have the three-door version. With such a car it is very convenient in the city, especially in traffic jams. In general, the Prado is worth the money - compact and versatile, it can accommodate five tall passengers. Average consumption is 13-14 liters.
  • Sergey, Kursk. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is worth the money, I bought it and don’t regret it. The 2.7-liter engine does not impress with its dynamics and efficiency, so it was installed with an LPG system. As for the speaker, that's not what the car was made for. Consumes 12-14 liters. Dmitry, Belgorod. I'm happy with the car, this is my first Japanese SUV, I drive comfortably and don't complain, I don't know any obstacles. The cruiser is capable of driving on roads of any quality, it has an impenetrable chassis. Consumption maximum 15 liters per hundred.
  • Oleg, Kirovsk. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a cool thing, it combines a lot of advantages, such as comfort and maneuverability, roominess and reliability, prestige and speed. In my opinion, the Prado has no minus. Well, except for the gluttonous engine. In the city it turns out to be 13-14 liters.
  • Yuri, Petrozavodsk. I praise Toyota for its stylish brutal design, good handling and exemplary geometric cross-country ability; the Prado is capable of performing miracles off-road. It has long suspension travel and high ground clearance, and thanks to the wide wheel arches it can accommodate tires of any size. In general, Toyota is the ideal solution for those who need versatility regardless of the quality of the road surface. Under the hood of my Prado there is a 2.7-liter gasoline engine that consumes 13-14 liters per hundred. Impenetrable suspension, comfortable and informative gas and brake pedals.

With 2.8 engine

  • Ekaterina, Nizhny Novgorod. I have a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, with a powerful 2.8 diesel engine. I think that diesel is necessary for such cars; it combines high traction and efficiency. These are precisely the qualities that large gasoline SUVs lack. My Toyota is the complete opposite. Comfortable, high-torque when driving uphill, and consumes only 10 liters per hundred.
  • Karina, Leningrad region. Toyota Prado Cruiser is the best solution as a compromise between convenience in the city and unlimited off-road capabilities. A Prado with a 2.8 engine consumes 10-12 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km.
  • Tatyana, Moscow region. I bought a Cruiser second hand and found a copy in good condition, with a mileage of 80 thousand km. The car is from 2005, no major damage was found, it is serviced at the dealer, of course. I drive around the city, the diesel engine consumes 10-11 liters.
  • Vladimir, Arkhangelsk. Cruiser Prado in 2021 became my most successful purchase. I was so glad I bought it for New Years. The car is 2015, bought at a discount at a car dealership. New, traveled 50 thousand km in a year. Consider it has been run-in, so far no problems. Consumption is 10 liters in the city.
  • Maxim, Pyatigorsk. The Prado Cruiser is an indispensable off-road vehicle, especially in my diesel version. The car pulls already from low speeds, this is very convenient, since you can avoid slipping if you engage a higher gear. In this way you can easily get out of a deep rut, which was created, for example, by some UAZ Hunter. But for more serious off-road conditions, where the Ural Mountains ride, you need large tires with a high profile. This is supported by Toyota, although you have to buy it additionally. I haven't tried it yet, but I really want to. In combat conditions, the engine consumes up to 14 liters, in the city it turns out to be only 10 liters, this is an excellent result for such a colossus.
  • Vladislav, Irkutsk. With such a car you can go shopping, go on a long journey, or even go to some kind of rally raid. This is a universal car that can delight you regardless of the type of road. And yet, Toyota feels better off-road, where it is in its element. It is far from passenger crossovers. After all, this is still a frame SUV with outdated features. Diesel is economical, consumes 10 liters per hundred.
  • Vitaly, Sochi. The car suits most parameters, drives smoothly and brakes effectively. Handling leaves much to be desired, as does the weak dynamics of the 2.8-liter diesel engine. The main advantage, in addition to cross-country ability, is, of course, efficiency - only 10 l/100 km.

With 3.0 engine

  • Vasily, Orenburg. Land Cruiser Prado 2009, now has 120 thousand km on the odometer. I think that the car is still relevant, there is no point in selling it yet. Moreover, Toyota has not yet released the next generation. In general, I'm happy with the car. Reliability at a high level. The design is complex, there is a lot to break, but I am pleasantly surprised - no serious damage was found. Consumption in the city is about 14 liters, with a 3.0 engine and automatic transmission.
  • Margarita, Vorkuta. I bought a real all-terrain vehicle, I enjoy driving it every day, especially when I drive off-road and in snowdrifts. All-wheel drive works efficiently, average consumption is 12 liters.
  • Mityai, Kaliningrad. A comfortable and reliable SUV for every day, it makes me and my whole family happy. Under the hood is a 3.0 engine with a consumption of 12-13 liters.
  • Nikolay, Bryansk. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a profitable investment if you have plenty of money. This car is unlikely to disappoint anyone, except perhaps those who love dynamics and handling. The Prado has other, much more serious abilities - of course, first of all, cross-country ability. In my opinion, the Prado is still a relevant car. I'm happy with the car, and in terms of handling the car is not so mediocre. Sort of average, but off-road there are only advantages. I have a version with a 3.0 engine, it consumes 12-13 liters.
  • Alexander, Tomsk. The ideal SUV, I'm happy with everything about it. Equipped with a time-tested 3-liter naturally aspirated engine. It consumes an average of 14 liters in the city, I drive comfortably.
  • Karina, St. Petersburg. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a car from a bygone era. An outdated frame design, an old three-liter naturally aspirated engine that barely pulls, high consumption of 13-15 liters. I was convinced of these and other shortcomings from my own experience. And I regret that I had to buy a Land Cruiser for this; besides, it is not cheap, even more expensive than some more modern competitors. I was hoping for a Japanese brand, prestige, etc. In general, I regretted what I did and will sell.
  • Oleg, Moscow region. The car is ideal in all respects, I bought it purely for myself, for my needs. Prestige and image, reliability and maneuverability - my Cruiser has it all. The car is equipped with a 3.0 engine and automatic transmission, consumes 14 l/100 km.
  • Denis, Stavropol region. I have owned the Land Cruiser Prado for three years, and over the last year I have been actively using the car off-road. I was convinced that this was a full-fledged SUV. It has high maintenance costs, but you have to pay for the pleasure - either one way or nothing, or just drive around the city, but then you could already think about a passenger car. And I want to use my product to its fullest extent. The average consumption of my Prado is 13-14 liters with a 3.0 engine and an automatic transmission.
  • Dmitry, Minsk. I'm happy with the car, a car for all occasions. Comfortable in the city and fast on the highway, capable of off-roading. Under the hood is a 3.0 engine and automatic transmission, consumption is 12-14 liters.
  • Alexey, Novosibirsk. My Prado is 2009, I have driven 190 thousand km, I still drive comfortably, I have no complaints about reliability. I only install original spare parts and fill only with high-quality fuel. Consumption 13 l.
  • Katerina, Taganrog. I liked the car, it makes me feel like I’m on top of a mountain. I am not afraid of any obstacles. I sit high, I look far away as we speak. Everyone respects me on the road; reputation and brand are everything to us. A three-liter engine consumes 14 liters.
  • Maxim, Yaroslavl. I bought the Prado second hand, 2010 version, in good condition. I bought it at a car dealership, everything is official there, without any intermediaries. I'm happy with the car, I haven't changed anything for the last three months, I haven't visited a service station. Probably, soon I will have to - now the mileage is 70 thousand, the front suspension has started to knock. The best car for your money, consumption is 12 liters per 100 km.

With 4.0 engine

  • Konstantin, Kaliningrad. A worthwhile SUV, and perhaps one of the most expensive among its competitors. I have a top version with a four-liter gasoline engine, it consumes an average of 15-17 liters per hundred. A time-tested aspirated engine, there can be no complaints about it in terms of reliability. And so that there would be no questions at all, I installed HBO.
  • Igor, Nikolaev. The Cruiser Prado is a good investment, a decent car for the money. Almost premium. I have the top version with the 4.0 engine. In the cabin, all options, including automatic and separate climate control, everything works as expected. Consumption is 16-17 liters in the city.
  • Yaroslav, Saratov. I like the car, I appreciated it from the first day of the trip - that’s when I realized that the Prado was created specifically for my tastes. In addition, the Cruiser is universal in the family and is perfect for household needs. The 4-liter engine consumes 18 liters when driving fast.
  • Oleg, Tambov. My Prado is perfect in everything, except that it can’t drive fast. But the family is happy, the car is suitable for long journeys. The salon is large, there is a lot of space, and many options. High-quality interior and expensive finishing materials. The 4-liter engine impresses with power, but the chassis does not allow it to open up to its full potential. In the city I get around 16 liters per 100 km.
  • Dmitry, Moscow. I bought the Prado on the secondary market. 2009 version. The car is still capable of surprising off-road, and amazes with its acceleration potential on a straight road. The 4.0 engine consumes up to 18 l/100 km.
  • Mikhail, Petrozavodsk. Toyota Cruiser Prado is definitely a profitable purchase. It is comfortable in the city and on the highway, and the handling is more or less reliable. I drive with a consumption of 17 liters.
  • Svetlana, Smolensk. The Prado is a real SUV, of which there are few left. But I decided to be original in order to stand out from the rest. The powerful 4.0 engine consumes 16-18 liters.
  • Ruslan, Perm. Prado 2009, current mileage is 120 thousand. During this run the car never broke down in a major way, and I was pleasantly impressed. And judging by the high reliability, I decided to postpone the sale of the Cruiser. But I’m sure that I’ll still have to sell it when the new generation comes out; after all, this model has been on the assembly line for nine years now. A 4-liter gasoline engine consumes 17 liters per hundred, I fill it with 95-grade gasoline.

Which engine is the most economical?

All Japanese engines are good in their own way. However, today the most popular is the 3-liter diesel engine with 163 horsepower. It has good torque of about 400 Nm and quick heating. In addition, diesel is quite economical in terms of consumption, and its “appetite” is about 8.1 liters per 100 kilometers in mixed mode.

If a motorist wants to further protect the car from wear and tear when starting in the cold season, it is recommended to install a pre-heating system.

Results: which engine to buy a car with

Diesel engines 1KD-FTV and 1KZ-TE are highly complex mechanisms. The first-born of the new series of engines, released in 2000, was 1KD-FTV. Over the years it has been constantly modernized. Designers tried to increase efficiency and reduce power losses.

Thus a completely new, unique engine was born. Every detail is made specifically for him.

Strength and traction have increased, economic and environmental characteristics have improved.

If you compare the Prado 150 diesel 3L versus the Prado 150 2.8 diesel and which engine will be better, the answer is obvious. This is a 2.8 turbodiesel, which takes into account all the wishes of the owners of the previous version of the SUV.

Increased fuel consumption and the reasons for its occurrence

Losing fuel efficiency is always unpleasant. The problem is complicated by the fact that it can be caused by a variety of reasons: from engine damage to failure of a small sensor, for example, due to intake air or a clogged system. Motorists consider low-quality gasoline at gas stations to be the most common reason why their “appetite” has increased. However, the problem may often not be in the gas station, but in the technical condition of the car.

Untimely replacement of engine and transmission oil can lead to loss of fuel. When frictional resistance increases, the system has to work harder to maintain power. This leads not only to increased “appetite”, but also to rapid wear of parts. Therefore, you need to monitor the oil level and change it regularly.

Air ducts clogged with dust and dirt also cause the system to “strain” unnecessarily, so you need to monitor the filters. A filled cleaning element will have poor air flow, which means a poor fuel-air mixture will enter the combustion chamber. As a result, part of it will burn out idle and be thrown directly out of the exhaust pipe. The car’s computer will record a drop in air pressure in the fuel rail and begin to compensate for the shortage with a larger supply of fuel.

Fuel will also be wasted when driving on flat tires or due to improper wheel alignment. The car will have to overcome greater frictional resistance and, accordingly, throw in more fuel.

What engine problems lead to increased fuel consumption?

When there is a suspicion that the “appetite” has grown due to problems in the operation of the power unit, the ignition system is first checked. Plugs with signs of oil deposits or an altered gap between the electrodes lead to misfires. This causes an increase in consumption. The same applies to conditions when the fuel in the combustion chamber does not burn out completely. The latter occurs due to a violation of the ignition timing adjustment.

If the fuel supply system is disrupted, the amount of fuel used will also increase. The injectors supply a certain calibrated portion of fuel. But if they are coked, the flow is disrupted. In this case, the system voltage will also quickly empty the tank.

If the engine cooling system is damaged, problems begin with the “appetites” of the motor. When the thermostat is faulty, part of the thermal energy that is released during combustion is used to heat the engine. And since the coolant does not flow through the system correctly, the car will have to “throw in” more gasoline to maintain the specified parameters.

During normal operation of all systems in the car, the consumption will be equal to the indicators declared by the manufacturer. There are many reasons for violation of quantitative standards for fuel used, and their consideration deserves a separate article. How high or low the fuel consumption of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 series cars is, each car enthusiast decides for himself. However, many experts note that for a machine of this size this is one of the most modest indicators.
