The fourth generation of the legendary mid-size Japanese SUV Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J150, having debuted in 2009, is produced by the famous automaker to this day. As for the automatic transmission, this model range received a completely new 6-speed automatic transmission, which joined the 4 and 5-speed automatic transmissions installed on previous generations of this line. Accordingly, next we will talk about the automatic transmission oil of the Prado 150, consider its factory specifications, and also give examples of original and analog products.
Automatic transmission oils for Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J150
About approvals
The Japanese automaker equipped the fourth generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J150 line with:
- 4-speed automatic transmission A340F/A340
- 5-speed automatic transmission A750/TB-50LS
- 6-speed automatic A760/TB-60SN
These automatic transmissions must be filled with Type WS approved transmission fluid as oil.
Full or partial replacement
The manufacturer recommends changing the oil in the box completely (through a device using the displacement method). The full replacement interval is 40,000 km, or based on your considerations.
In the event that the local service station does not have a special device, or the availability of specialists wants to be the best, it is possible to carry out a partial oil change yourself. During a partial replacement, 5 liters of old oil are drained from the gearbox and 5 liters of new oil are added. The partial replacement option is not as effective as a complete replacement, so if possible, it is better to replace it completely.

Why does the air suspension compressor on the Prado 120 not turn on?
The pneumatic compressor is the main component of the suspension. The operating principle is to supply compressed air to the receiver. Failure to function is a common problem on the Prado 120. In this case, the car does not react in any way to the lowering and raising button, the car sways a little, the body “fell” and became as if it were wobbly, all the holes and speed bumps are felt. If the Prado 120 air suspension compressor does not turn on, the reasons may be the following:
- the sealing gasket has become leaky;
- the integrity of the piston ring is compromised;
- the cylinder has failed;
- tubes broke.
Problems may also be due to incorrect operation of the collection valve or dryer unit.
Transmission oil automatic transmission Prado 150 A750/TB-50LS (5 gears)
On the 2009-2017 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J150 model, in addition to the 4-speed automatic transmission described above, a 5-speed hydromechanical Aisin Warner A750 automatic transmission, also called TB-50LS, was also installed. This automatic transmission works with a 3-liter diesel and 4-liter gasoline engine. And when servicing the transmission oil, it is also selected according to the Type WS specification described above. It is worth recommending both original (Toyota Type WS) and analogue (Neste ATF Multi and ZIC ATF MULTI LF) products.

Oil filter selection
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 150 cars are produced with an engine running on gasoline or diesel. Volumes are 2.7 (163 hp) and 4 (282 hp) liters for the first option. Volume 3.0 l (173 hp) - second type.
The choice of oil filter depends on the modification of the crossover. The Land Cruiser Prado 150 SUV with automatic transmission is equipped with an original filter or an analogue (which is suitable for the transmission). Toyota spare part numbers:
- 04152-31050;
- 04152-38010;
- 04152-26010;
- 04152-31030;
- 04152-31060;
- 04152-YZZA5.
The manufacturer may have changed the numbers. The search for the required element is carried out using the vehicle's VIN code.
The function of the spare part is to collect debris (metal filings, dust, etc.) and clean the oil fluid. The filter changes along with the ATP.
Automatic transmission oil Prado 150 A760/TB-60SN (6 gears)
As a result of restyling in 2013 and 2021, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J150 line acquired a 6-speed hydromechanical Aisin Warner A760 automatic transmission, which was also installed on cars of other automakers under the TB-60SN nomenclature. As for the transmission fluid, the Prado 150 automatic transmission oil is also selected in this case according to the Type WS approval. Accordingly, all that remains to do to the original Toyota Type WS oil is to add a few more substitutes. For example, Petro-Canada DuraDrive MV Synthetic ATF and Idemitsu ATF Type TLS-LV.

When to change
An erroneous opinion arises from the manufacturer’s statement that the gearbox is filled with oil at the factory for the entire period of operation. On the one hand, this statement is true, and the gearbox will serve “faithfully and truly” throughout the warranty period, but this only applies to those owners who do not use the car longer than the warranty. Those happy owners of Toyota Prado who purchase a car for a year are recommended to do differently - take care of the car and provide high-quality service, which of course it deserves.
The more often the oil is changed, the longer the gearbox parts will last. And given the cost of spare parts for the Toyota Prado 150, quality service for a manual transmission/automatic transmission will cost less than a complete transmission replacement.
What is the replacement interval? If the car is mostly used in urban environments, or is subjected to more extreme use and experiences heavy loads, it is recommended to replace it every 40,000 km.
If the car is more often used on country roads with high-quality surfaces, when the average speed is 2-3 times higher than the average speed in city traffic, then an oil change can be done after 60-80,000 km.
The oil filter is changed with every second oil change or every 80,000 km.
The service life of the Prado gearbox is 150 - 300,000 km, and this is only possible thanks to high-quality maintenance and moderate loads. Also, by the way, it is worth noting one important fact, which was mentioned at one of the presentations by a representative of the manufacturer of transmissions for Toyota vehicles, that the company, as a manufacturer of Aisin transmissions, recommends changing the oil in the gearbox after 20,000 km, or every second maintenance.
When to replace it depends, of course, on how dear the car is to you, but changing it every 40,000 km is a more humane solution in modern realities.
What kind of automatic transmission oil Toyota Prado 150 diesel
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J150 diesel units are powered by the above-described 5-speed automatic transmission A750/TB-50LS and 6-speed automatic transmission A760/TB-60SN. Accordingly, guided by the Type WS approval, we make a choice in favor of higher quality gear oil. Both the original Toyota Type WS and analog RAVENOL ATF T-WS Lifetime, Redline D6 ATF.

Air suspension compressor repair
If you receive a disappointing verdict at the inspection “replacement of the air suspension compressor”, do not rush to pay a lot of money for a new unit. It is quite possible to do the repairs yourself and with a much smaller budget than buying a new one.
However, it is worth considering that it is possible to “revive” the compressor only if the integrity of the pipelines and valve is not compromised, and there are no leaks in the system.
In order to carry out repairs, it is necessary to first remove the air suspension compressor of the Prado 120. The mechanism is located in the lower part of the rear left wing of the car, under plastic protection. The compressor is attached to a metal casing, and the latter is attached to the housing. You can remove everything together or separately. In order to dismantle the compressor, you need to disconnect:
- air intake tubes;
- “trick” for the main supply of the compressor and adjustment of the main valve;
- tubes going from the heater to the receiver.
After the unit has been removed, it is necessary to wash it, because after long use it becomes an incomprehensible substance of dirt and corrosion elements. To do this, you can take it to an automatic car wash and wash it with foam.
Next, we immediately check the work by attaching a plus and a minus to the “chip”. The compressor should crank at least a little.
Then we perform the following procedure:
- Disassemble the dryer (plastic tank on top).
- Shake out all the garbage from it.
- Rinse thoroughly, clean and set to dry.
- Remove three filters from the solenoid valve block and soak in a strong detergent solution.
- Remove all dirt and deposits from the jet and chambers inside.
- Clean the solenoid valve itself.
- When everything is dry, reassemble in reverse order.
- Cover the block cover with sealant.
- We check the operation by connecting to the battery.
- We put the unit in its original place.
We start the engine: the compressor should run silently. You will have to wait a while for the car to rise to normal height. This happens because the system is completely empty and it takes time for it to fill with air.
Automatic transmission oil level Prado 150
The transmission fluid level in the A340F/A340 and A750/TB-50LS Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J150 automatic transmissions is checked with a dipstick, which can be found under the hood of the car. But in the A760/TB-60SN automatic transmission, this procedure is performed through the control plug:
- The transmission fluid is heated to 70 degrees
- The machine is placed on a flat area without slopes
- move the automatic transmission selector to neutral
- unscrew the control plug from the bottom of the machine

How to change the oil and check its level
Changing the oil in a Prado 150 automatic transmission is not the simplest or easiest thing, but this can be done not only in a specialized auto repair shop, where there is all the necessary equipment for this, but also in a garage, but for this you will have to try and spend a lot of time.
It is worth knowing some of the structural features of the Prado 50 automatic transmission. The fact is that the automatic transmission pan is equipped with special magnets, which are needed to attract the largest particles of metal debris. If small chips come out along with the used oil, then large particles or even broken gears should be looked for in the pan.
It is important to drain the old oil completely, since the new one will have a different density, and when mixing such liquids, the division inside the box will be disrupted, which will lead to its malfunction. For the same reason, oils of different types and manufacturers should not be mixed.
The oil change in the Prado 150 automatic transmission must be completed completely: for this you will need to purchase about 8 liters of fluid.
Only 4 liters can be drained. If the car has low mileage, the system can be flushed. If the mileage is high, it is better to leave everything as is and replace only the oil that was removed.
In order to change the oil, you will need a container to receive the used fluid. The oil is drained hot, so be careful with your hands and use a metal bucket. You will also need 14, 24 and 10 sockets. Arm yourself with a 6 hex and prepare in advance the oil filter, seal ring for the transmission filter, gasket for the drain plug and a new gasket for the pan. Don't be alarmed if it's rubber and the factory one is metal: that's how it should be.
Before you start working, you need to warm up the oil: this will ensure better fluidity. Simply warming up the engine is useless, so it's best to drive the car a few blocks
Place the car over the hole and secure it. Using a 14mm socket, unscrew the drain plug and collect the old oil in a bucket. After the oil has drained, take a 10mm socket and unscrew the bolts that secure the automatic transmission pan, after which you can remove the filter. The oil from the pan must also be poured out and, if necessary, the pan must be cleaned with gasoline.
Removing the automatic transmission filter
Before installing a new filter, its O-ring is lubricated with fresh oil: this is done to prevent the rubber from drying out. The filter must be installed carefully. The clean pan is then put back in place, replacing the gasket on it. You need to tighten the central bolts first, then those at the edges.
Before adding new oil, you need to check how much has been drained. If you don’t know how to check the oil level of a Prado 150 automatic transmission, proceed as follows: using a 24mm socket, you need to press out the drain plug. This will make it possible to see how much oil has been drained.
After this, you can begin to pour liquid into the filler hole until its level reaches its maximum again. Changing the Prado automatic transmission oil requires the following procedure: after it is filled and the plug is tightened, you need to start the car and switch all gearbox modes. After this, you need to unscrew the check plug with a 6-point head: if everything is done correctly, the oil will flow out in a thin stream. If this does not happen, you need to add more fluid. After this, the filler plug can be clamped. You can check the level more accurately at a service station using a scanner. Changing the oil in a Toyota Prado 150 automatic transmission is a relatively complex procedure, so if you have doubts that you can do it correctly, it is better to contact a service station.
Non-original compressor in Prado 120
If the integrity of parts of the air suspension system is damaged, repairs will no longer be possible. You'll have to change the part. The price of the original one is high. This leads to a solution: the ability to take a non-original unit. Another option is to rework the Prado 120 air suspension compressor. However, in both cases it is necessary to take into account a number of factors:
- Be sure to check the current consumption of a non-original compressor. Not every “original” wiring can withstand a power of 30A or more.
- In case of replacement of standard electrics, it is necessary to have a diagram of the original electrical system.
- It is imperative to select the correct pressure switch.
By following these rules, replacing a standard unit with a non-original one will not be very difficult.
