The Camry 55 business class passenger car, equipped with a 4-door sedan body, began production at the end of the summer of 2014. The car was built on the basis of the XV50 generation and lasted on the assembly line for 3 years. The car features an updated design and an expanded range of functions, as well as upgraded engines.

Brief comparison with the previous model

The main differences between the improved version and the earlier XV50 generation cars:

the design of the front and rear parts of the body has been changed;
a new 3-spoke steering wheel was used;
a modernized instrument cluster with an enlarged central display was installed;
a large multimedia center screen is provided;
a modernized climate control unit was used;
support for wireless charging of mobile devices has been introduced;
a new power unit with a volume of 2 liters and a 6-speed automatic was proposed.

The car retained the dimensions of the body and interior, but the manufacturer expanded the list of available options and changed some components.
For example, the windshield received heating threads over its entire area. In early versions, only the rest area of the windshield wiper blades was electrically heated. Description of the Toyota Camry exterior

The XV55 sedan retained the outlines and dimensions of the body of its predecessor. Modified plastic bumpers made the car's silhouette "sporty", but the soft multi-link suspension is not designed for high-speed maneuvering. At the front there is a narrow radiator grille. An additional air intake is located in the central part of the bumper. On either side of the air duct are round fog lights. Daytime running lights appeared in the head optics, covered with a plastic fairing.

The doorways and glazing remain unchanged, the handles and mirror housings are painted in body color. At the rear, split optics are used; the internal sections of the lights fold down along with the luggage compartment lid. Above the registration plate area there is a chrome plate into which the Toyota logo is integrated.

The plastic shell of the bumper has a different configuration; there is a lower diffuser and red linings that reflect light.

Car modifications

The following equipment options were available on the Russian market:

"Standard". Basic version with polyurethane steering wheel and standard audio system with black and white display. The cars used 16-inch light alloy wheels with 215/60 tires. A button is used to start the motor.
"Standard Plus". It is distinguished by the presence of a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an improved radio with a 6.1″ diagonal color display.
"Classic". Equipped with leather upholstered seats. The driver and front passenger seats are electrically adjustable with position memory. The interior trim features linings that imitate carbon fiber.
"Comfort". It is distinguished by the use of a 2.5-liter engine (the first 3 versions were available with a 2-liter engine). The seats are upholstered in fabric and the front seats are manually adjustable.
"Elegance". Equipped with a headlight cleaning system. The interior is decorated with artificial leather and inserts that imitate wood.
"Elegance Plus". It is distinguished by the use of xenon headlights with automatic correction of the direction of its beam. There is heating for the rear sofa and a system for automatically switching high beam headlights to low beam when oncoming traffic appears. Starting with this version, 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/55 tires were installed.
"Prestige". It is distinguished by electrical adjustment of the rear row of seats, the presence of an additional remote control for the radio and climate control.
"Elegance Drive". Equipped with a 3.5 liter engine and manually adjustable rear seats.
"Lux". Equipped with an i-AFS adaptive lighting system and an electrically adjustable steering column. Standard equipment includes a blind spot monitoring system (BSM) and a rear cross-traffic assist (RCTA) unit. There is an electric curtain on the rear side windows, airbags for 2 rows of seats and an additional protective element for the driver’s kneecaps.

The standard equipment of the vehicles included ultrasonic parking assistant sensors installed on the front and rear bumpers. For the Russian market, cars were supplied with a full-size spare wheel with an alloy disk. The base included front and side airbags, complemented by curtains. The disc brake system features anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution. There is an emergency brake booster and TRC traction control system.

XV55 interior

The interior of the car retains a massive front panel made of foam plastic. The steering column is equipped with adjustment for reach and installation angle, and there is an analog instrument cluster with bright blue backlighting. Additional information is displayed on the LCD screen. On the steering wheel there are buttons for controlling the radio and additional functions. The climate control unit is a push-button unit; some vehicles are equipped with an air ionizer with forced switching on and off.

There are separate seats for the driver and front passenger. Between them there is a console with an adjustable armrest. The seats are manually adjusted according to the distance from the pedals, the height of the cushion and the angle of the backrest. An electric heating system is included as standard equipment, the seats are upholstered in fabric or artificial leather (the type of material depends on the configuration).

The rear sofa has a separate back and base. Some machines are equipped with electric heating.

trunk capacity (depending on the type of adjustment of the rear sofa) - 483 or 506 l (with electric and manual drive, respectively);

Depending on the engine size, the car consumes from 7.2 to 9.3 liters of gasoline per 100 km in the combined driving cycle. On the highway, average fuel consumption does not exceed 7 liters (at a speed of 110-120 km/h), with sharp acceleration and driving at speeds of more than 150 km/h, fuel consumption increases to 2-3 liters per 100 km. During urban use, efficiency depends on the rhythm of movement and ambient temperature.

For example, the declared gasoline consumption of a car with a 3.5 liter engine is 13.2 liters, but in winter traffic jams the parameter increases to 15-16 liters per 100 km.

Camry 55 engine

The XV55 generation Toyota Camry uses the following engines:

in-line 4-cylinder 6AR-FSE with a volume of 2 liters and a power of 150 hp. With.;
in-line 4-cylinder 2AR-FE - 2.5 l and 181 l. With.;
V-shaped 6-cylinder 2GR-FE with a volume of 3.5 liters and a power of 249 hp. With.

A new product is the 6AR-FSE unit, characterized by an increased compression ratio and a variable valve timing system. Gasoline with an octane rating of 92 can be used as fuel. The 2AR-FE and 2GR-FE engines are designed for fuel grade A-95 and higher.

The manufacturer used a 6-speed automatic transmission on the cars with the ability to manually change gears. No manual transmission is provided.

Camry tuning options

Car owners modify the appearance by installing plastic body kit elements and alloy wheels with a radius of up to R18. Chrome trims are glued to the external parts of the body (for example, to a decorative radiator grille). To improve technical characteristics, an upgraded engine control program is installed, increasing power by 10-15%. At the same time, it is practiced to equip it with an exhaust gas exhaust system with 2 pipes, symmetrically located under the lower edge of the bumper.

I purchased a used XV55 generation car in 2021 (3.5 liter engine). The previous owner drove 50 thousand km. After the purchase, I changed the technological fluids and installed tires with a lower profile, which increased stability at speeds of more than 150 km/h. I did not carry out additional soundproofing of the interior; there are no creaks in the panels. The disadvantage is increased fuel consumption in the city (up to 15 liters per 100 km), but the power reserve allows you to quickly overtake on the highway in the speed range of 100-170 km/h.

I bought a Toyota Camry immediately after the new model came out. I liked the car based on the photos published in various magazines and video materials. The car was used for 3 years (drove 78 thousand km). Constantly visited the official dealer for minor repairs.
