Design
A comparison of the design of the Ku X 80 and the Land Cruiser involves differences in the exterior and interior. The Infiniti QX80 has impressive dimensions:
- length - 5.29 m;
- width - 2.03 m;
- height - 1.92 m;
- wheelbase - 3.08;
- trunk width 1.31 m.
The updated QX80 has a slightly raised hood with fins, a vertical grille and modern headlights. The front fenders are equipped with overlays. The steps on the sills have become wider, and the wheels have changed to 22 inches. The taillights have acquired the popular red uniform stripes, connected by a wide shiny strip.
In the interior, the door panels have been modernized and the seats have been updated with embroidery.
Stitching has appeared on the trim in the middle of the steering wheel and front panel. The center armrest box has become more spacious. The designers placed 960x540 monitors in the headrests of the front seats.
The dashboard remains from the previous model.
Slightly inferior in size to the Toyota Land Cruiser 200:
- length - 4.95 m;
- width - 1.97 m;
- height - 1.95 m;
- wheelbase - 2.85 m;
- trunk width 1.28 m.
In the exterior, after the next update, the outline of the radiator grille and bumper has changed. In the center of the hood, the designers placed a longitudinal depression.
In the interior of the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, the front seats are separated by a large tunnel, which takes away space from the driver. The rear seats are conveniently divided. In combination with a flat floor, a feeling of free space is created. The distance between the front and back rows is up to 0.47 m.
A signature feature of the Toyota SUV is the JBL audio system with 14 speakers. The monitor, on which the image from 4 cameras is transmitted, helps to cope with the controls.
The interior of both SUVs corresponds to the status of the models:
- expensive interior;
- latest generation multimedia system;
- high-quality finishing material;
- rear view cameras;
- electronic equipment.
Land Cruiser 200 and Infinity 80 have an attractive exterior and comfortable interiors. In terms of finishing materials, the Land Cruiser is characterized by simplicity.

Cadillac Escalade 6.2 AT Platinum. Price from 5,090,000 rub.
Chosen for style and charisma.
I don’t really understand why there is such a wide tunnel in the middle. But the gap between the seats needs to be filled somehow, why not. The creators probably thought: “Guys, there’s a lot of space for you, let’s eat it up...” I also don’t understand two chairs on the second row - why? It was possible to make a normal folding sofa. But there is a third row, and it will be especially good there if you remove the two seats in the middle. Any limousine will burst with envy.
The front seats in the Escalade are the best of the bunch. Wireless charging is located on the wide armrest.
Both outside and inside everything is bright and big. I would even say exaggerated. Lots of sparkling elements, which are only emphasized by this beige interior. The dark ceiling is also a nice feature. Adds twenty points to self-confidence. The driver's seat is the most comfortable of all three cars. In the “Japanese” you somehow sit tighter, but here you can lie back, relax and enjoy a successful life. We didn’t get along well with the automatic’s steering column “poker”: because of it, there is simply no right lever, everything is on the left, and you’ll have to get used to this solution.
A traditional feature for American cars is the “poker” of the machine.
Everyone who was born in the USSR will understand me: the digital dashboard is similar to the Cheburashka. It's funny. The projection of instrument readings onto the windshield is well done. It’s clear, accessible and doesn’t distract from the road. And it’s very good that the projection adjustment is located on a separate block to the left of the steering wheel with physical buttons. If it had been hidden in the depths of the settings menu, I would have spent hours looking for it.
You can get stuck with the multimedia system. She herself is not fast, and the menu is quite confusing. Or here are the sensors on the climate control unit. I understand that this was done for the sake of design, but it’s inconvenient to use. Where to click? On the chrome lip? No. On the inscription? No. As a result, you get distracted from the road. You can’t intuitively turn up the sound or adjust the climate. The whole car is like “yes, but no.” It seems thorough, but there are too... frivolous moments, or something.
There are several USB inputs near the cup holders.
The Cadillac Escalade drives very well. 426 forces and 621 Nm of torque! The most powerful SUV of this trio and the fastest - 6.7 seconds to hundred. The right pedal is to the floor, and the 6.2‑liter V8 howls with all eight “pots”. The hood lifted and we jumped ten meters forward. Unexpectedly brisk for such a colossus. Impressive. But he eats accordingly. However, I said that efficiency is not the most important parameter for me. But it “snorts” great. It's a pleasure to press the gas. There's no need for music here either. I want to hear that growl. Especially considering that for the last couple of years I have preferred to drive in silence, without turning on the radio.
It's nice to accelerate, but it's more difficult to maneuver - the turning radius is much larger than on the Kruzak. The Escalade's rear suspension does not work as intelligently as we would like. And, if we continue the comparison, the brake pedal is “bumpy”, short-travel, you press it, but you don’t get normal deceleration. Apparently, Brembo has different technologies, and the Escalade was not equipped with the most advanced ones.
The third row is quite capable of accommodating three passengers. Headrest displays can be connected to any source via HDMI inputs.
The electronic rear view mirror is a curious thing. But you feel like you're in a video game. I don't understand where my car starts and ends. Now, if the engineers made the exterior mirrors larger, it would be easier to feel the dimensions of the car.
The Cadillac Escalade and Infiniti QX80 in our test are presented with three rows of seats, with a seating formula of 2+2+3. Cargo space in the Escalade ranges from 431 to 2667 liters.
Black wheels and red brake calipers are original options.
The trick of the Escalade is that you can put on an important face in it and drive imposingly, with dignity. On the Land Cruiser 200 it will be less convincing: there is less pathos there.
Interior
The consensus was that the Escalade Platinum's interior came in first place in this test. Honestly, I was amazed by its quality. Just like the others. Seabo summed up what we loved so much: "The Escalade has bold, soft leather and gorgeous wood trim." Burgess: “This interior is superior to all Cadillac models. The brown leather with contrasting stitching makes it the height of luxury.” I can say that, in terms of materials, this interior is the highest quality I've seen in an American car. And yet, there's CUE with its haptic, (not so) touch controls, which aren't really good enough. Evans and Seabaugh think everything is fine, and I would be brave enough to tell Cadillac boss Joan de Nieschen to throw them in the trash.
You might expect Range Rover to pay particular attention to interior quality. And you would be wrong. Like CUE, Range Rover's infotainment solution isn't good enough either. Not for that price. Martinez confirms: “The Multimedia Center is second to last behind CUE.” The car is also inferior to Cadillac in terms of quality of materials, but the worst thing is that damn squeaking noise! Evans explains: “The driver's right-hand reclining armrest rubs against the seat and center console, making a persistent squeaking noise. The coaster lid makes a scratching sound when opening and closing, and the closed door pockets squeak when opening and closing. This is unacceptable for a car of this class.” These unpleasant sounds made us feel uneasy.
We were also impressed with the Infiniti's interior materials. Striking leather and immaculate wood are everywhere. The problem with Infiniti, like Lincoln, is that its proletarian roots (the QX80 comes from the Nissan Patrol) show through here and there. Kong: “I think the QX80 has become the cheater of this group. It looks huge, but there's not as much passenger space as you'd expect." We are talking about captain's chairs in the middle row. The seats are good, but since they are locked in place, even people who aren't very tall won't have much legroom. An excellent solution would be to provide the ability to move them back a little, but due to the attachment points this is not possible. This is bad. We also all agreed that the seats were too high.
The Mercedes-Benz GL was our SUV of the Year for 2013. Surprisingly, the 2015 cabin appears unchanged. Perhaps this is due to the outdated multimedia center screen, like in the C- and S-class. He looks small. Martinez: “The panel is not exactly modern. The configuration and layout of the controls are excellent. But the visible imperfections of black plastic should not be present in a car in this price category.” He also notes that the first thing he noticed was the hard seats. The leather is good enough, but can you imagine a Mercedes-Benz interior that would be significantly inferior to an Infiniti or Cadillac?
Lexus is the oldest of these cars, having first been introduced in 2007. It is also slightly inferior in sales volume - about 4,000 units per year, i.e. slightly more than 3% of this segment. Its dated interior underscores the single-purpose purpose of this truck. If you want to compete in the Baja 1000 or compete in the Paris-Dakar Rally, the LX 570 is the obvious choice. But gilded luxury for a shopping trip? It too. “The leather isn't as good, the cabin materials are disappointing, the infotainment system is outdated—this Lexus has clearly outlived its usefulness,” says Seabaugh. “But at the same time, the LX 570 offers an incredibly luxurious experience. It would look equally at home in a hotel parking lot in Manhattan or in a war zone in Mogadishu. This is luxury." I can't help but agree. Others, however, have different impressions. “Wood trim is shiny and looks plastic,” says Evans. “The plastics look just as cheap as in the Infiniti, but there are a lot more of them. Today it is popular to wrap everything in leather, but this is not the case here. The multimedia center is outdated. It's terribly slow and some of the graphics wouldn't be out of place on the Sega Genesis."
That leaves Lincoln, and its interior takes last place. It's no secret that the 2021 update is nothing more than a temporary option before the release of a new version with an all-aluminum body, which is expected in 2021. Regarding this car, Burges says: “Luxury is in the details, and here Lincoln falls short. There are a few areas where the igator is great, such as the reclining seats. But it is inferior in interior quality. The shift knob is similar to that of a Super Soaker, and the exterior bodywork can be snagged by clothes. All this needs to be improved." Seabaugh adds, “I don't think Lincoln finished designing this interior. Have you seen those air conditioning grilles?” As for the third rows of seats, they are all quite passable, with the exception of the Range Rover, which does not have them. Cadillac and Infiniti have the least space in the third row, and although the QX80 has more space, the row looks worse visually. The surprise was that the respectable Lexus has a third row that is quite suitable for adults. Although the Lincoln has more space, the Mercedes came out on top in this test. Here you have the load-bearing body.
Technical characteristics of the tested cars
The first difference between all-wheel drive SUVs with gasoline power units is different technical equipment. Land Cruiser 200 is presented in Russia:
- 4.7 liter engine and V8 engine;
- 309 hp at 5500 rpm;
- maximum torque 439 Nm at 3400 rpm;
- 6-speed automatic transmission.
Acceleration to 100 m occurs in 8.6 seconds with a top speed of 205 km/h. If you arrange a competition between the Infinity QX80 and the Land Cruiser 200, the first will overtake the second by 2.1 seconds and 5 km/h, respectively. This is explained by the technical equipment:
- larger 5.6 liter V8 engine;
- power 405 hp at 5800 rpm;
- maximum torque 560 Nm at 400 rpm;
- 7-speed gearbox.
Both cars have good dynamic performance.
The slowness of the Land Cruiser prevents the brakes from overheating. There are no complaints about the Infinity's thermal balance during fast acceleration and dynamics.
According to the stated characteristics, the Land Cruiser consumes 18.2 liters of fuel per 100 km in the city and 11.4 liters on the mixed highway. QX80 according to these indicators: 20.6 and 11 liters, respectively. In practice, Infiniti and Kruzak have the same gasoline consumption, more than stated - 23 liters in the city and 18 liters off-road.

Control
A 360-degree video surveillance system helps control the large Infiniti QX80 on the track. On the road, the weight of a 3-ton car is not felt: it quickly picks up speed. Car owners highlight the high level of comfort in driving an SUV. Slight vibrations of the unsprung masses and transmission itching on the pedals are noted.
The Land Cruiser behaves on the asphalt like a large frame car: it confidently holds a straight line. When turning, there is not enough connection with the steering wheel, and you can feel the roll. Sharp braking is accompanied by guaranteed dives.
In extreme conditions, such as when sliding, electronics come to the rescue. Thanks to the good combination of the 4.7 liter petrol engine and the 6-speed gearbox, the driver can steer comfortably. Vibrations are felt on a mixed road.
Safety
All six competitors have a built-in safety feature - jumbo size. As our friends at rmed For Life said, “Larger, heavier vehicles provide better protection for their occupants. A larger, heavier vehicle provides better crash protection than a smaller, lighter vehicle, all other things being equal. Size and weight determine the forces that affect passengers during a collision. The magnitude of these forces is directly proportional to the risk of injury.”
But longer braking distances and greater weight lower the active safety threshold of every SUV. None of the vehicles in question meet IIHS Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick Plus criteria. Please note that the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class (renamed GLE) is a close relative of the GL and is ranked in the 1% safest passenger cars according to rmed for life.
Performance indicators
Despite the engine power of its rival, the Land Cruiser 200 outperforms the Infiniti 80 off-road. The quality of the suspension settings played a role, allowing the Toyota SUV to be more comfortable for passengers when driving fast on bumpy roads. The smooth ride of both cars can only be achieved on asphalt.
Having a comfortable and energy-intensive suspension, the Land Cruiser 200 confidently accelerates on any surface. On slippery roads, the driver may lose control of the car at speeds over 60 km/h. To tame the 3-ton vehicle, VSC is provided. The QX80 is no stranger to handling problems on slippery surfaces.
Infinity is inferior to Land Cruiser in cross-country ability.
The latter easily overcomes embankments and ditches. The Infiniti QX56, which has impressive dimensions, is a dynamic, vibrant car for city streets.
My choice
I like the Infiniti QX80, and that’s all! For me it is correct, beautiful, comfortable. And my soul lies with him. Now I’ll jump behind the wheel, put on a cocked hat and set sail to my concerts in different cities. And even if they tell me “you’re the most pathetic Infiniti driver we’ve ever heard of,” I’ll think “yeah, after all, you’ve heard of me!” The Cadillac Escalade is too bright for me, but you can’t take away its charisma, of course. Here it would be appropriate to compare with age, probably. I've outgrown the Escalade, but haven't gotten old enough to the Land Cruiser 200 yet. Although in terms of handling, Toyota had the fewest questions.
EDITOR'S CHOICE
All three SUVs have their own army of fans. All three with charisma. All three are among the main sources of profit for their companies. The editors were unable to reach a consensus. But the main fight was between the Land Cruiser 200 and Escalade. By the way, you're probably wondering why Toyota is here and not Lexus LX. In a comparable configuration, Lexus goes far beyond the budget of 7 million.

Ride and handling
Ride and handling are usually given equal weight in testing. But with these big guys, we think ride quality is the more important feature. Therefore, we exclude controllability from this formula. These are not sports cars. Cadillac, Infiniti, Lexus and Lincoln all have body-on-frame construction. In other words, these are practically trucks, and three of them weigh more than 3 tons, and the Caddy is approaching this mark - 2663 kg. The GL has a monocoque body but is fitted with partial side members and weighs 2524kg. The five-seater Range Rover is the lightest of the SUVs presented - 2426 kg. However, five of these guys ran our figure eight in the region of 27 seconds. The fastest is GL with a result of 27.3 s. The QX80 was slightly behind the main group - 28.3 s. For comparison, the Mazda6 did it in 27.3 seconds, and the Kia Optima took 28.3 seconds. So, of course, they are not athletes, but you can’t call them clumsy hippos either.
As far as ride quality goes, it's a happy story. The generous width and relatively long wheelbase allow the entire six to generally ride very smoothly. Only igator made an insufficiently good impression. “Who put the previous generation F-150 into this test?” one tester asked. Hard? Certainly. But this is how Lincoln looks only compared to the others. The igator looks more like a pickup truck than others. Now - good news. Associate Editor Scot Evans says of the Infiniti: “What impressed me the most was the overall comfort. Ride quality is very good despite the 22-inch wheels. The car eats up big and small bumps with equal confidence.” But Kong cautions that you'll "probably find the handling lacking if you're used to European driving."
Here's what deputy editor Christian Seabaugh says about Land Rover: “I like the Range Rover's air suspension. It confidently provides excellent smoothness.” I can't help but agree. Mercedes-Benz also boasts air suspension. Online editor Nate Martinez simply states, "The air suspension ride is great." Speaking of unusual suspensions, we note that Cadillac uses magnetic shock absorbers. “As experience with other GM SUVs in this particular series has shown,” says Kong, “magnetorheological shock absorbers are much more geared toward sport models (even in Tour mode) than luxury ones.” But of course, the Escalade's giant 22-inch wheels and rubber-banded tires aren't going to cut it. “When you're in a car, it's hard to tell if something's wrong with the wheels/tires or the suspension,” Kong continues. Still, this Caddy drives quite well. The air suspension and magnetorheological dampers are quite unusual, but the Lexus has hydraulic adjustment, a bit like the Citroën of yore. The LX 570's similarity to trucks leaves judges divided. Evans doesn't care how the car drives, but here's what Scott Burgess says about this powerful Lexus: “It feels more like a Mercedes than a Lexus. The ride is very relaxed and great for long trips.” I agree with Scott. Is there a clear winner for ride quality? No. Four - QX80, Range Rover HSE, LX 570 and GL450 - are very good.
Infinity QX 56 vs TOYOTA LC 200. Sybarite party card. Second part
A frantic catch with a pause from the guttural bubbling engine first makes the stern sit down, raises a huge beak, and then emerges with the whole body with such acceleration that for the first five seconds you just want to scream.
At the moment the Infinity QX automatic transmission smoothly switched to the second stage, the speedometer needle almost reached a hundred km/h. Just 7.8 seconds - and you win the sprint battle against the Toyota LC 200 with a petrol V8. You are separated by one and a half seconds from the first hundred. The engine feels incredible and the transmission works great, distributing torque depending on the selected mode. All-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive plus low gear with electronic locking center differential. Just. It's clear. Quite effective, but no match for the 21st century technical potential of the Land Cruiser 200 - too complex to manage off-road, and incredibly easy to take part in it.
Let's talk about the details The Crawl Control system allows the driver to leave such “unnecessary” controls as pedals and climb at one of three speeds (1, 3 or 5 km/h) forward or backward through places that an Infiniti QX 56 driver can only dream of in your worst nightmare.
Of course, the Land Cruiser shines off-road. But now we are more concerned with the question of how painful its passengers will be during the afternoon journey from the restaurant to the office. We are striving to join an elite club, aren’t we? And here it is the smoothness of the ride and well-functioning suspension that will play a devastating role. Sharp maneuvers are contraindicated for both - this is an unconditional fact. And yet, if you compare the movement of these two cars in the city at medium and low speeds, the Land Cruiser driver has a better chance of maintaining his job. Its suspension swallows everything that they didn’t have time to tidy up, forgot to bury or cover with a road sign. But if the boss refuses to buckle up, as they say, options are possible...
What's inside? The body of the “200” is subject to impressive longitudinal and lateral rolls, the seats are slippery, and the steering wheel is not clear and is too “loose” at low speeds. You have to actively twist it, unlike the sports rim of the Infiniti QX, which inexplicably ended up inside. Through the thin leather edges of the QX, all (or almost all) joints of the road surface, small irregularities are transmitted, and if you’ve already driven onto the ground, you’ve had lunch in vain. The rigid body plus the short travel of the suspension can turn even the most hardened stomach inside out. So, if anyone claims to play a role in the garage of a nomadic party of sybarites, it is certainly not Infinity QX.
On the autobahn they keep pace, on the off-road only one Land Cruiser crawls, and at the front façade there is an Infiniti. There is some mysterious, standard-muscular echo in him, inherited from his American ancestors. Let's call it charm, devoid of any sensuality, but, nevertheless, ready to turn your wallet. It has more space for passengers and a more comfortable interior, not to mention an abundance of multimedia devices. And it doesn’t cost that much by the club’s current standards: only $92 thousand. However, these facts and figures alone cannot add up to our common story, of which only one will be the hero. Most practical in the city and equally desirable in the desert. An active missionary and an upstart from the lower world. And more recently, also a carrier of white collar workers.

Chosen for its appearance and interior.
I open the door and the first thing that catches my eye is the diamond-shaped stitching on the chairs and doors. Humanly! Expensive, rich. This beauty really attracts me. I sat down and had lateral support. Good, like in a business jet. Or on a yacht... yes, perhaps the comparison with a yacht is more appropriate, because you have to turn the steering wheel a lot. Staying the course, or rather, changing it quickly is not as convenient as we would like. That’s how it looks: a steering wheel, a captain’s cocked hat on his head, a foul-mouthed parrot on his shoulder and - Give up the mooring lines! Left hand drive! Full speed ahead, your way!
The QX80's interior feels like an expensive item, but something needs to be done with the multimedia.
In terms of management, I would like to compare it with a yacht. On the QX80 you don't turn, you change course. The response to the gas pedal is blurry. There's no need to rush. An atmospheric 5.6‑liter V8 with 405 horsepower smoothly teleports this colossus weighing under 2.8 tons. Although 7.5 seconds to a hundred, if you think about it, it’s not so smooth. The QX80 doesn't have the low-end exhaust burble of the Escalade. The assertive roar of the engine creeps into the cabin only when accelerating with the pedal to the floor. The eighty's engine cannot shut off half the cylinders, like Cadillac's, but the average consumption is the same - 20 liters.
The instruments are readable, but unpretentious. The monochrome display looks archaic in 2021. You can display the image from the additional rear view camera on the interior mirror.
The Infiniti QX80 is very soft, and rightfully so. On the QX80 you don't drive, you swim. You so impressively go around everyone. I braked and the wave started... Passengers, of course, have a good time - soft, spacious. When you manage a staff of two thousand people, it’s probably nice to get into such a car and understand that you are also managing all this hardware.
Like the Escalade, the QX80 is available with a third row of seats, but there is less space there than in the American. The climate control unit for the second row is simple and clear.
The QX80 also has a digital mirror mode, like the Escalade. I know that the family will enjoy the two displays built into the headrests of the front seats. ABOUT! You can display different content on them. But the main screen - multimedia - leaves much to be desired. Better graphics, better functionality, better performance. There are many different connectors for charging gadgets in the cabin. However, it must be said that there are a lot of them in the 200 with Escalade.
I love with my eyes. And in terms of design, I like the QX80 the most, both outside and inside. But if suddenly my wife gives birth and I need to go quickly, what should I do? How to rebuild? It’s clear that you can get used to it, but it seems to me that a “sharper” steering wheel would suit him. But the brakes are adequate. Not like in a Toyota, of course, but much better than in a Cadillac.
The trunk of the QX80 ranges from 470 to 2693 liters.
Infiniti QX80 or Toyota Land Cruiser 200, which is better?
Despite the similarities in the exterior of SUVs, there is a clear difference in approach.
Toyota Land Cruiser 200 will comfortably take the driver to his destination off-road. Thanks to the tuned suspension, the car is well prepared for rough terrain. It is suitable for the city and active recreation in the vastness of Russia. This is the right choice for those who value the balance between equipment, handling and comfort.
Infiniti 80 is created for connoisseurs of luxury. The driver can comfortably drive an all-wheel drive SUV with good suspension and soft response to the brakes and steering wheel. The spacious interior (7-8 seats) is equipped with new electronics and additional equipment.
Price
The least expensive SUV in terms of cost of ownership over a 5-year period is the Lincoln igator. But Lincoln has the lowest price. When examining the figures over a 5-year period, it becomes clear that, taking into account depreciation, the igator is the only car whose maintenance costs exceed its value. You can notice a few more interesting numbers. The average repair cost for Range Rover and Mercedes is more than three times higher than others. The leader in depreciation is the Range Rover, it loses almost $55,000 in price. At the other end of this spectrum is the Lexus LX 570, which holds its value well. After five years, it will be 57% of what was paid at the beginning. Thus, all these cars are premium and expensive. Here the cost of ownership is not as important as in segment B.
