Instructions for replacing lamps yourself

To get to the Camry V50 license plate light, you will need to remove part of the trunk trim, since there is no other way to get there.

Using a flat-head screwdriver with a thin blade, we pull out part of the clips that hold the trunk trim closer to the lock.

Carefully bend it, then pull out the plug with 2 wires from the lampshade.

We press the latches and just as carefully pull out the lampshade from its seat.

Now, using a screwdriver, pry up the lamp cover and remove it to the side.

We are replacing the old lamp with a new one.

When installing LED lamps, pay attention to the fact that they have polarity. In order not to disassemble the lampshades several times, install the lamps, then check whether they work, and only then reassemble.

After replacing the lamps, we reassemble in the reverse order and check the result. If the license plate light on the Camry V50 does not work after installing new bulbs, then the problem may be in the fuse.

Helpful information

LED bulbs provide better license plate illumination and last much longer than conventional incandescent bulbs.
If you want W5W incandescent lamps to last longer, I advise you to buy Ultra Life or Long life lamps. These are lamps with an extended service life.
If the lamps do not light up after replacement, the problem is most likely in the fuse. But it is responsible not only for the license plate illumination, but also for the interior lighting, check if it works.

On both versions of the car body, a W5W lamp is installed - its catalog number is 2825 or 168. The nominal voltage of the lamps is 12 volts, power consumption is 5 Watts. There are more powerful light bulbs produced in a similar form factor, but it is not recommended to use them to illuminate rear license plates - the heat emitted during their operation will eventually lead to dimming and deformation of the plastic lamp. The best option would be to purchase modern LED lamps - with a similar level of glow, their consumption is 8–10 times less than that of an incandescent lamp, and there is practically no heat generation. In addition, their service life is several times longer than the service life of an incandescent lamp, which means that replacing license plate light bulbs on a Camry 40 or 50 will be required much less frequently.

Important! According to clause 12.4 part 2 of the traffic rules, only white-yellow and yellow lamps can be used to illuminate the number. The use of blue, green or red lamps is punishable by a fine of up to 5,000 rubles.

But you cannot operate a vehicle without license plate illumination at all: this violation is punishable by a fine of 500 or a verbal warning from a traffic police inspector. A violation is either completely faulty lighting or just one non-working light bulb. The car owner's actions when replacing the lamp are as follows:

The trunk lid opens and there are plastic clips (clips) holding the lid trim.
The latches are carefully pryed off using a flat screwdriver and then pulled out. It is necessary to pull out only those clips that are installed in the immediate vicinity of the rear license plate light housing.
Part of the carpet covering the trunk is turned away.
The lamp body extends slightly from the socket. To make it easier to pull out the case, it is recommended to disconnect the backlight power connectors.
After pulling out, plastic clips will appear along the edges of the body - they must be squeezed (pressed into the main body), and then completely remove the suspension body from the trunk.
The lamp cover is then pryed up with a screwdriver and removed.
The old light bulb is pulled out and a new one is installed in its place, the cover is put on, the lampshade is installed in its place.
A similar operation is carried out to replace the lamp in the second lampshade.
The trim is installed in place and clamped with old clips.

How to install a new light bulb

To do this, you will also need a screwdriver; at the auto store you will need to purchase a set of suitable LEDs or a W5W lamp (its serial number in the Camry parts catalog is 168 or 2825).

Replacing worn-out optics is done as follows:

In the luggage compartment you need to find plastic clips that hold the mat in place.
Next, you should carefully remove the clips, which are located near the backlight lamp, using a screwdriver, and bend back the freed part of the mat.
Disconnect the power terminal and slightly release the lamp housing.
Its body is attached to the wall of the luggage compartment with black plastic clips. They must be carefully removed, after which the case will be released from its normal place.
You should not try to completely pull out the light bulb housing; to replace it, simply release its fastenings.
Remove the lamp cover by carefully prying it off with a screwdriver. You shouldn’t put a lot of effort into this, as there is a risk of simply damaging the element.
We remove the old light bulb and install a new one in its place.
We check the functionality of the license plate lighting and reassemble it in the reverse order.
