There seem to be fewer holes and bumps, although I know that this is not so. Comfort as in cars of a higher class. But it’s better to drive through rails or asphalt sections so beloved by our road workers more slowly. The suspension handles such irregularities a little rougher. Sound insulation is very good. The sand in the arches is barely noticeable, aerodynamic noise is not annoying, and the engine is almost inaudible, you just need to not turn it too much in vain. Moreover, 1.6 liters do not amaze the imagination with acceleration or any particularly sensitive connection with the driver. Therefore, we remember about inner peace, and everything falls into place. “Corolla” is not meant to excite the driver’s blood. It is for you to calmly get to your destination and humbly wait for the next trips. The sooner you understand this, the sooner you'll love the Corolla.

What will happen to a marriage if, even before the wedding, future spouses begin to think about the nuances of dividing property during a divorce? Most likely, nothing good. What if before buying a car you start thinking about selling it? Most likely, Toyota will be purchased. A test drive of the Corolla made me think this way. Thinking about the advantages of a sedan, the first thing I remember is that such a car can always be sold quickly and profitably.

Why does this come to mind? After a couple of days behind the wheel of the updated Toyota Corolla, very few details remain in my memory. Comfortable, understandable, moderately modern car. There are no serious shortcomings, so the question “how is the car?” involuntarily breaks out: “It’s good, you can sell it profitably.” But it’s true that on the secondary market, a 4-year-old Japanese sedan costs about 4 million tenge, which is more expensive than its main Korean competitors: Hyundai Elantra is quoted half a million lower, and selling a Kia Cerato, you can lose a whole million.

However, there are some things that are not encouraging: the high price and sluggish dynamics. Moreover, nothing can be done about either one or the other in Kazakhstan. Our sedan in the top version (although what top version is it without leather, big wheels and a sunroof?) costs 7.5 million tenge. That’s exactly what two 2012 Corollas cost, by the way. If we set the minimum threshold as the presence of a 1.6 engine and a variator, then the minimum is the “Comfort Plus” version for 6,710,000 tenge. Still a lot.

We don’t have cars with a 140-horsepower 1.8 engine, and the 0.9-second advantage in acceleration to hundreds is clearly not worth abandoning the CVT in favor of a manual. Moreover, the engine-gearbox pair works perfectly here. And once you accept the high price and give up dynamic driving, you begin to enjoy the car. Pleasure, of course, is not the kind when your pulse quickens and your lips involuntarily spread into a smile, but something similar to returning home in the evening and plunging into the arms of your favorite sofa. There is nothing to worry about and there is no need to rush anywhere.

Noise insulation is good until you start overtaking someone under the strained howl of the power unit. The smoothness of the ride is also not satisfactory, and the energy intensity is such that you quickly stop slowing down in front of bumps that force other cars to slow down. The spaciousness of the cabin and the size of the trunk are in order, except that some kind of net for securing luggage or an organizer is asked for in the cargo compartment - any bags fly around the large compartment.

What is a Toyota Corolla if you look at it not only as a car that can then be sold at a profit? An excellent choice for those who travel along the route home - kindergarten - school - office - home, and on weekends, instead of transporting children to places of serving their sentences, they look at bazaars and shops. But at such prices, only fans of the model will not look in the direction of crossovers, which for 7 million will have both an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive...

The characteristics of the Toyota Corolla 2012 directly depend on which engine-transmission combination is used in each specific model. Toyota engineers have prepared three gasoline units for it - the base 1NR-FE (13 liters 99 hp), the more powerful 1ZR-FE (16 liters 122 horsepower) and finally the top-end 2ZR-FE (18 liters 140 horsepower). In this case, the torque varies from 99 (Corolla 1.33 Dual VVT-i 6 manual transmission) to 173 Nm (Corolla 1.8 Dual VVT-i CVT).

The “initial” 99-horsepower 1.33-liter power unit is intended for the basic “Standard” version and only paired with a six-speed manual transmission. However, even if we take into account the relatively small weight of the Corolla, which is about 1.3 tons, the most preferable is still the version with a 1.6-liter 122-horsepower 1ZR-FE engine, which is equipped with the “lion’s share” of modifications, and both on manual transmission , and with a CVT transmission.

The most productive 140-horsepower 1.8 2ZR-FAE is available only with a continuously variable transmission. Taking into account the excellent dynamic performance of the engine, as well as its tolerable “gluttony”, this is the most appropriate option for purchase, since such a power unit is available not only in top-end versions, but also in simpler versions - starting with “Comfort Plus”.

Corolla engines are perhaps the main advantage of the Japanese brand: if maintenance is carried out on time, they can even be safely mentioned in the will. Already the fourth generation of small-volume ZR engines has two phase shifters, flexible valve lift control, and hydraulic compensators.

The Japanese have drawn conclusions from their past mistakes, eliminating, in particular, increased oil consumption. As a result, the chain is capable of working for at least 200 thousand kilometers, and few people have ever encountered any critical wear in them. The properties and parameters of the Corolla, of course, are determined largely by its gearbox: a six-speed manual was installed in tandem with 1.3- and 1.6-liter engines, and a CVT variator was already installed on the 1.6- and 1.8-liter versions models.

The appearance of a continuously variable transmission on board the Corolla is an obvious progress, especially considering the not very successful experience with the “robot” in the previous iteration of the model. The MultiDrive S V-belt variator has a so-called sports mode and can simulate a 7-band automatic transmission.

If we talk about gasoline, the costs and actual fuel consumption of the 2012 Corolla are quite moderate: for example, a 1.3 1NR-FE with manual transmission consumes 7.2 l/100 km in the city, 4.7 l/100 km outside the city, and in mixed mode - 5.6 l|100 km.

The 1.6 1ZR-FE with manual transmission 6 already consumes 8.7 l/100 km in the city, 5.3 l/100 km on the highway, and 6.3 l/100 km in the combined cycle. A 1.6 with a CVT will consume 8.2 liters per 100 km in the city, 5.3 liters outside the city, and 6.3 liters in mixed mode.

And finally, 18 2ZR-FE with a CVT “eats” 8.3|5.3|6.4 liters for every 100 kilometers, respectively.

Equipment

In Kazakhstan, Corolla is offered in several trim levels. All cars, including the base one, have ABS, daytime running lights and Isofix mounts. As part of the adaptation to our market, all Corollas are equipped with steel engine crankcase protection.

The most affordable “Comfort” version is offered only with a younger, 1.3-liter engine and a manual transmission and can only boast heated front seats, air conditioning, front electric windows and front airbags. Steel wheels, 15 inches. Such a car costs 5,640,000 tenge.

If you add side airbags and electric rear windows, you get the “Comfort Plus” version for 6,240,000 tenge.

Those who want to have only two pedals will have to fork out 6,560,000 tenge, and the Corolla will also get 16-inch wheels (but also steel), foglights and a heated leather steering wheel. The option with alloy wheels is 150,000 tenge more expensive.

The Elegance version is offered only with a CVT. The equipment is much more solid: stability control system, 6 airbags, LED headlights and taillights, heated wiper zones, an audio system with a touchscreen and Bluetooth, a rear view camera and climate control. The price tag is 7,240,000 tenge.

Our Corolla was in the top-end Prestige trim. It differs from the Elegance by the presence of parking sensors front and rear, keyless entry and an engine start button. Price - 7,510,000 tenge.

The updated Corolla is presented in 6 modifications, the basic “Standard” version includes:
