The first Camry in which the Japanese brand installed a 3.5-liter engine was the XV40 model. This car is considered international. Not only Japanese engineers, but also specialists from the USA and Australia worked on its creation. The car, introduced in 2006, acquired a number of interesting characteristics. For example, full power accessories, keyless entry, cruise control function, electrically adjustable driver's seat in 8 directions.

Depending on the supply market, the Toyota Camry XV40 differed in its power plant. In Japan, the car was sold with a 2.4-liter engine. In Russia and the USA, it was possible to buy a more expensive version with a six-speed automatic transmission (not hydromechanical) and a 3.5-liter engine. This engine had a factory designation of 2GR-FE and operated on a patented VVT-i gas distribution system. The result - XV40 began to be distinguished by excellent dynamic characteristics.

The updated list of equipment packages for the 2021 Toyota Camry includes a GR Sport option. It is intended to replace the previous S-Edition sport version, so it essentially offers the same improvements: emblems, bumper trims, moldings, rear spoiler, special wheel design, black roof, black side mirror housings and original taillights.

This version is equipped with either a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine or the most powerful V6 engine. The transmission in both cases is an 8-speed automatic. The equipment also includes an expanded version of the Safety Sense complex with dynamic cruise control, a light sensor, a lane keeping system and a traffic sign recognition function.

The cost of the 2021 Toyota Camry GR Sport, depending on the selected engine, ranges from 2,405,500 to 2,775,500 rubles. For comparison, the initial configuration with a basic 2-liter engine is estimated at 1,930,000 rubles, the most expensive (Executive Safety) – at 2,988,500 rubles.

The next Toyota Camry 3.5 was the XV50, introduced in 2011. This generation, first of all, surprised car enthusiasts with its interior. Compared to its predecessor, it has become much more spacious, and engineers have also improved the hood and suspension. Toyota Camry XV50, like previous models, was produced in several modifications. The top version of the business sedan was equipped with a 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine.

However, the XV50 is slightly less powerful than the XV40. Since 2012, in Russia, a 3.5-liter power unit began to be installed on the Toyota Camry, but it was derated to 249 horsepower, which is why the car became less sporty. The reason is the increased transport tax in Russia. Subsequently, Toyota began installing the same engine on the restyled XV55 model, which is why its price did not increase much. But, despite this fact, the dynamic characteristics of the sedan remained at a high level.

The Toyota Camry XV 50 generation, which appeared in 2011, amazed car enthusiasts with increased interior space compared to its predecessor. The suspension became more collected, which made it possible to get rid of excessive imposingness.

As for engines, this model also boasts the top-end 3.5 engine among the presented naturally aspirated gasoline engines. However, if in the previous generation identical power units were supplied to the American and Russian markets, since 2012 the Camry XV50 (55) in Russia has been equipped with a 3.5 engine derated to 249 horsepower. The reason for this was the increase in transport tax. This engine was also installed on the restyled Camry XV55.

Despite the reduction in power of the 2GR-FE engine, the dynamic characteristics of the sedan, now produced in Russia, remained high: acceleration to 100 kilometers per hour dropped to 7.1 seconds, but the speedometer needle cannot exceed the 210 kilometer mark.

A pleasant bonus for Russian car owners will be fuel consumption from 7 liters in suburban mode to 13.2 on city streets. As before, only a six-speed automatic transmission is installed on the Camry 3.5 in the 50 body. Ground clearance increased by 2 cm, but trunk volume increased to 506 liters.

An interesting point is the maintenance regulations: according to the recommendations of the dealer in Russia, the oil should be changed every 10 thousand kilometers, a similar procedure in the USA is carried out once every 16 thousand.

The oil volume for this V6 engine is the same - 6.1 liters.

Toyota Camry XV70, 3.5, 2021

The Camry XV70, released in 2021, has a longer and wider body and trunk. The design of the model acquired an even more expressive appearance, and began to look especially beautiful when installing a body kit. In some trim levels, the rear and front seats began to be trimmed with genuine leather. Decorative trims and valves appeared in the cabin. If we talk about the power plant, then on the Russian market you can buy the XV70 with an engine capacity of 2.0, 2.5 and 3.5 liters.

The engine, in 3.5-liter models, received a new index 2GR-FKS and combined injection D-4S. Power remained the same - 249 horsepower. But a new eight-speed automatic transmission was installed, from the same proven manufacturer Aisin. Toyota Camry XV70 compared to the XV50 began to weigh 75 kilograms more, which slightly affected its acceleration. But in this model it was possible to reduce fuel consumption, thanks to innovative combined injection.
