You will not find a translation of the word Avensis in any dictionary. This is a specially created combination of letters that does not mean anything, but is only the name of this car.

In 1997, when this model was just born, the following phrase was heard in one reputable newspaper: “Compared with the easy-to-pronounce name Karina, the name “Evensis” seems somewhat strange...”.

Indeed, this word means absolutely nothing, but the designations of the trim levels are very eloquent: the more affordable Linea Terra (Earth Line) and the more expensive Linea Sol (Sun Line), as indicated by the nameplates on the rear panel of the body.

From the very first days, the Toyota Avensis has been a leader in sales rankings among its competitors. Each release of a new model becomes a bestseller for the Japanese company.

1997 - Toyota Avensis eclipses the popular Carina E.

Toyota Avensis was developed in such a way that its base increased by 50 percent and lost 80 mm in length. In addition, the Toyota Avensis became the proud owner of aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of 0.28.

Toyota Avensis, due to its high European design: smooth outline and surface, is very comfortable and harmonious. Due to the high build quality of the Toyota Avensis, there are no disproportions in its shape, and the lines that form the shape are not contradictory.

The second generation Toyota Avensis II was developed in France by designers at the company's design center.

The new Toyota Avensis II has displaced the Corolla from its leading position thanks to its design. Avensis II is distinguished by strict lines, clearly defined arches, huge bumpers, and modern optics. All this makes the design of this car aggressive, sporty, combative, Avensis II has become individual. The length of the new product exceeds its ancestor by 11 cm, of which 7 cm is due to the increase in the base itself. The overall longitudinal dimension of the Avensis II is 4.63 meters. In the other two overall dimensions, the car is 5 cm larger in each. An enlarged interior is one of the main advantages of the car. Even behind the driver's seat there is enough space for the passenger to feel comfortable and confident. Three people can easily fit in the back seat, although they will not be given much freedom. But if two people sit in the back, they will feel quite at ease.

The front seat is adjustable in space in all directions and will satisfy even the most discerning and demanding driver. The seats tightly hug both the driver and the passenger sitting next to him. The position of the steering wheel is also selected individually, thanks to a convenient system for adjusting its position.

The front of the car has changed in many ways. It has become more sporty thanks to a reinforced bumper. The car emblem was on the radiator grille. Due to the reflector, modern Toyota Avensis optics form the correct beams of light.

The car is complemented by a set of tail lights, as well as a chrome exhaust pipe.

Avensis bodies have the following configurations: sedan, hatchback and station wagon. All three look quite harmonious together.

Avensis Estate is a station wagon slightly reminiscent of Audi models. With its expressive appearance, it slightly overshadows the other two models. On the sedan and hatchback, the bright, eye-catching details are the huge headlights, which “hang” on the sides of the car, protruding from the rear of the body.

In terms of interior decoration, the Avensis is very similar to the latest generation Corolla. We can say that the interiors of both models are close in spirit. But this is more an advantage than a disadvantage, since the interior space in Carolla is harmonious and functional, thought out to the smallest detail by the designers. All instruments, control levers and multimedia devices are located as conveniently as possible for the driver. The speedometer and tachometer have a fairly large round screen that is easy on the eyes. Several smaller dials display fuel level, coolant temperature and other equally important details.

At any speed and on a road of any terrain, the Toyota Avensis pleasantly surprises with its smooth, silent ride. And soundproofing the windows will also protect you from extraneous external sounds. The car is equipped with a reverse air supply system, this is typical for Japanese cars, and is also often used in sports cars.

A diesel engine and three gasoline engines – this is the sum of the power unit for the Toyota Avensis. The volume of two gasoline engines, which include the VVT-i gas distribution system, is 1.6 and 1.8 liters, the power of which is 110 and 129 horsepower. The newest two-liter engine, which produces 147 horsepower, has become popular because of the diesel engine, its turbine geometry can be changed, and its power is 116 horsepower.

In 1997, multipoint fuel injection was added to Avensis engines. Old models did not have a flow meter; it appeared in later versions in 2000, in addition to the new 1.6 liter 3ZZ-FE engine. To the 2000 version, a gas distribution system with VVT-i phases was added, which can be changed. Due to the gas distribution system, the quality of the engine has improved, the speed range has become even wider. The number of horsepower remained the same, but the power became much greater.

The beginning of 2004 was marked by the expansion of the engine line for the Toyota Avensis. A new petrol engine with a volume of 2.4 liters (161 hp) has appeared, which is currently the most powerful component of this car. The engine is equipped with a 5-speed automatic or semi-automatic transmission and allows you to reach speeds of up to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds. The second new product is a 2-liter diesel engine with reduced emissions. Engines with a volume exceeding 2 liters are coupled with a 5-speed gearbox, and engines with a smaller volume are equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The sensations during sharp acceleration, as well as when you start the car, are perhaps the only drawbacks of the Avensis. The motor reacts strongly to braking. The VVT-i engine has a new cylinder head that is wider. The engine also has smooth valve timing. The engine has become more economical and environmentally friendly. In the skillful hands of the driver, Avensis can work wonders, reacting to subtle vibrations of the steering wheel, which instantly tries to return to its original position and even on small turns you can feel its resistance. The car has proven itself to be a reliable vehicle and does not contain any unpleasant surprises. The MacPherson independent suspension ensures a calm and smooth ride on the most unpleasant sections of the road with the most pronounced defects. During sharp turns, the car changes direction so smoothly that those sitting in the cabin do not even feel the change in the trajectory of movement. If we compare the dynamic characteristics of Avensis and Carina, the latter clearly loses in this debate.

Toyota Avensis offers 2 ways of finishing the car: Linea Terra or “Earth Line”, which is the basic trim of the car and the luxury Linea Sol or “Sun Line”, which includes fog lights mounted in the bumper.

A crash test that took place in the spring of 2003 recognized the Toyota Avensis as the safest car in the entire history of testing. The Toyota Avensis has 9 airbags alone, and pretensioners have been added to the seat belts. Electronic equipment with braking and directional stability systems provides the car with active safety.

The Toyota Carina, the predecessor to the Toyota Avensis, was a phenomenally reliable car. They said that it was easier to sell a Carina than to “torture” it.

After such a successful model, buyers expected something even more outstanding - and in the fall of 1997 they waited for the Avensis. The new model has improved in terms of safety, ride quality, sound insulation and smoothness. Avensis was produced only in England.

The Comfort Plus package includes a carefully arranged set of equipment: manual air conditioning, electric front windows and an audio system with a radio and CD/MP3 player with six speakers and AUX audio output. The center section of the instrument panel and console are available in metallic black. 16-inch wheels are standard on this trim.

Already in the basic configuration, the car is equipped with seven airbags, including an airbag to protect the driver's knees, two front airbags for the driver and front passenger, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags for the front and rear.

There is a hatch in the central part of the rear seatbacks that makes it easier to transport long cargo, such as skis. This configuration includes cars with a 1.8-liter engine with a 6-speed manual transmission or the new Multidrive S variator, body type - sedan or station wagon.

Toyota Avensis "Elegance Plus"

This package includes a keyless entry system with the ability to start the engine using a button on the dashboard. It recognizes the presence of an electronic key within a radius of one meter from the car. A tactile sensor on the rear surface of the driver's door handle allows you to open the door and start the engine by pressing the "START" button. To lock your car, simply swipe your finger over the built-in contact sensor on the top of the door handle.

Toyota Avensis "Prestige"

In the Luxury package, the center console is finished with an original texture, the source of inspiration for which was Takesumi - Japanese charcoal made from bamboo. This package includes luxury equipment, including a combination of genuine and artificial leather in the seats and doors and electronic steering wheel adjustment for height and reach. Also standard equipment includes bi-xenon high-intensity headlights (HID) with Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS), rear parking sensors, rear sunshades and rear side window sunshades. Adaptive Front Lighting (AFS) adjusts the headlight beam angle according to the direction of travel. The touchscreen navigation system comes with a full complement of maps and a suite of multimedia equipment that includes Bluetooth connectivity, an 11-speaker audio system, a 10GB music server hard drive, a rearview camera and parking sensors. The rear view camera can be compared to an extra pair of eyes. When reverse gear is engaged, the rear view camera begins to transmit a real-time image of the area behind the vehicle to the touch display. This device will be especially useful in tight parking spaces. Halogen headlight bulbs have been replaced with energy-saving xenon bulbs that have a longer service life. The light from them is twice as bright as standard headlights. To avoid disturbing other drivers, it can be focused into a precisely directed beam.
