The popular compact crossover from RAV4 has been in production for 23 years, and is now in its fourth generation. It appeared in 2013, and this year a restyled version of this car was released. The updated Japanese SUV has acquired more stylish shapes and has become more aggressive and dynamic than its predecessor. The main novelty was the appearance of a hybrid version of the car, which began going on sale at the end of 2021, and already at the start of this year, gasoline and diesel versions of this fashionable SUV car were released.

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 is not much different from the previous generation, released four years earlier. The same angular optics at the front and a miniature upper radiator grille.

The body at the front still protrudes, forming an oval shape. The rear lights continue the line that runs from the front fender to the rear.

Fans of the brand did not see any serious changes in the design of the crossover, which is why the model received the CA40 index with the postscript “restyling”. Representatives of the Japanese company initially positioned the car as a modified version of the previous generation.

If we compare the dimensions with the pre-restyling version, the length has increased slightly - by 35 millimeters. The rest of the indicators remained the same.

The ground clearance of the 2021 RAV 4 is 197 millimeters. This figure is sufficient for a crossover, which is positioned as a car for city use.

The Land Cruiser Prado model has a ground clearance of only 220 millimeters, that is, 3 centimeters more. But many car enthusiasts call the Kruzak the “king of off-road vehicles.”

The vehicle's ground clearance depends on the configuration. In the “Prestige Black” version with automatic transmission, this figure is reduced to 165 millimeters. A similar modification with a diesel power unit has the same 197 millimeters as the base one with a gasoline engine.

The trunk volume of the 2021 edition is 577 liters with the standard arrangement of the rear row of seats. If we compare it with the performance of the version before restyling, the updated car received an additional 71 liters.

The second generation model was introduced in 2000. The crossover has noticeably grown in size and become more solid than its predecessor. Two versions were available - with a three- and five-door body. In the basic version, there was a 1.8-liter 125-horsepower engine under the hood, and the advanced version received a 2-liter unit (155-155 hp). The drive was front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, depending on the version.

In 2003, restyling took place. The updated crossover received an expanded engine range with a 2.2-liter engine (161 hp).

The interior of the Rav 4 is made of leather materials that are soft to the touch. The interior of the vehicle in the restyled version did not receive any major changes.

Car enthusiasts note that not all buttons are located in convenient places. To turn on the heated seats, the driver has to reach down to the bottom of the center console, which is very inconvenient while driving. There you can activate the heated rear window and switch the box to another operating mode.

Otherwise, Japanese quality is felt both for the driver and passengers. The seats are soft and comfortable, and the rear row has an additional armrest with two sections.

Rear passengers have plenty of space, and the flat floor allows three to move comfortably.

The restyled RAV4 model has its advantages and disadvantages.

Strengths of the vehicle:

• Reliability. Ravchik owners rarely talk about problems that interfere with the operation of a car whose mileage has not exceeded 100,000 kilometers.
• Space in the cabin. You don't have to sit in the back row of the fourth-generation RAV4 to understand how much space there is, you can see it even from the photos.
• Price. You can buy a reliable Japanese crossover for 1.6 million. At the time of release, the vehicle was even cheaper.
• There is no tunnel at the back. The passenger sitting in the middle on the rear sofa is quite comfortable, since he does not have to spread or bend his legs.
• Availability of a hybrid. Those motorists who are accustomed to saving fuel highly appreciated the performance of the version with two engines.
• All-round viewing system. Parking this car is quite easy, even in a parking lot crowded with other cars.
• The doors protect the threshold from dirt. Passengers do not have to worry about getting their clothes dirty when they get into the vehicle, since there is no dirt at the points of contact with wardrobe elements.

Separately, car enthusiasts note the convenient multimedia system and its customizability; the owners of the Ravchik also like its cross-country ability and fuel efficiency.

But there are also weaknesses of the 2021 RAV4:

• Increasing braking distance. Drivers complain about the rapid wear of the pads, which forces them to be changed every 20-30 thousand if it is original, and more often when purchasing a Chinese analogue.
• Button layout. Some of them are difficult to find by touch while driving, even for an experienced driver.
• Noise in the cabin. At high speeds, noise appears inside the car.

Some car enthusiasts separately report the disadvantages of the version with a two-liter engine. Such models are difficult to accelerate and lack dynamics.

The CA40 version, released in 2012, became the most popular in the RAV4 series based on the results of 2013, so for the premiere of its restyling, the leaders of the Japanese brand decided to localize the assembly of the vehicle in Russia for sale within the country and in the CIS.

The company, as expected, appeared in 2016.

To do this, it was necessary to invest about 10 billion rubles, but the final capacity of the plant is 100,000 vehicles every year.

Production of the restyled model continued until October 2019, when the CA40 model was replaced by a more modern one, the XA50.
