Windshield wipers on Corolla vary in size depending on the generation. The brushes are electrically driven; some models use an automatic activation mechanism based on a signal from a rain sensor. The rubber elements wear out, the owner independently determines the moment of replacement, focusing on the quality of glass cleaning.
Toyota Corolla wipers are electrically driven.
Standard parameters of wipers for Toyota Corolla
Cars are equipped with a pair of asymmetrical brushes; the element on the driver’s side has an increased length. The dimensions of windshield wipers depend on the generation of Toyota Corolla and the sales market. The leads of all cars are made of steel with an impact-resistant paint coating, mounted on conical trapezoid bushings and secured with a nut.
The wipers work synchronously, the frequency of the sweeps is set by the driver using a switch under the steering wheel or automatically based on signals from the rain sensor (optional on some Corolla models).
Model E120
The cars were supplied with station wagon, sedan and hatchback body types, which had a unified windshield. A brush measuring 600 mm (24″) was installed on the driver’s side; an element 400 mm (16″) long was located in front of the passenger. When installing a cleaning system on the rear window (on station wagons and hatchbacks), a standard 350 mm wiper was used.
Model E150
The generation was offered only with a 4-door sedan body. The windshield was cleaned with wipers measuring 650 and 350 mm (on the driver's and passenger's sides, respectively). The rear window is located in an aerodynamic shadow and does not require the installation of an additional cleaner.
The E150 model is cleaned with 650mm wipers.
Model E180
The cars are distinguished by a modified windshield, which uses blades 650 and 350 mm long (for the driver and front passenger, respectively).
The elements have been carried over unchanged from the E150 generation. The rear window was not equipped with a wiper, and station wagon or hatchback versions were not offered.
Model 160/170
XI generation cars were offered in Japan under the symbol E160 (Corolla Axio sedan and Corolla Fielder station wagon); for markets with left-hand traffic, cars with the designation E170 were supplied. The manufacturer installed wipers measuring 650 mm for the driver and 350 mm for the passenger. Cars with left- and right-hand drive were distinguished by trapezoidal windshield wipers.
Toyota Corolla Verso and Toyota Verso
Verso cars with a 5-door body were produced from 2001 to 2009. and formally belonged to the Corolla family. But the cars were based on their own platform, which led to the use of the original windshield. To remove dirt, brushes 660 and 406 mm long were used (for the driver and passenger sides, respectively), and a 300 mm wiper with an original plastic housing was installed at the rear.
Toyota Verso uses brushes with lengths of 660 and 406 mm.
2008 Toyota Corolla Wiper Blades
Windshield wipers (wipers or blades) are devices that improve visibility in bad weather by removing a layer of water from the windshield.
In wet weather, your safety depends on Toyota Corolla wipers, so you should approach their purchase seriously.
For example, cheap, low-quality analogues will leave a thick layer of water on the glass, which will make visibility minimal, and their service life will be three times less than that of high-quality ones.
Selecting brush type
There are several types of wipers.
Frame
The cheapest and simplest type. The essence of its design lies in a supporting metal frame, from the bottom of which an elastic band is attached using movable rocker arms. It is these rocker arms that ensure complete adherence of the wiper to the glass.
Cons: In cold weather, these brushes lose their flexibility due to the fact that snow or ice gets into their moving parts.
Frameless
In them, the rubber band fits tightly to the glass thanks to a special flexible plate. In addition, such wipers have a special shape, thanks to which they adhere better to the glass at high speeds. Unlike the first type, such brushes are not subject to freezing.
Disadvantages: in this design it is impossible to replace the elastic band, and the whole thing changes.
Hybrid
They are frame windshield wiper blades that are devoid of disadvantages. Their rocker system is protected by a rubber box from snow and ice. This is exactly the type that comes in the original delivery to Toyota.
Important! In no case should you wipe the wiper blade before installing it, as you can damage the special graphite layer on it, which will lead to loss of the properties of the blade.
Selecting and installing wipers on Corolla
The following sizes of wipers are installed on the Corolla 120:
- Driver side length: 24 inches (60 cm).
- Passenger side - 16 inches (40 cm).
Sizes of brushes that are installed on Corolla in the body 150 (2008–2014) and 160
- Driver's side - 26 inches (65 cm).
- Passenger side - 13 inches (35 cm).
Installation
As you can see in the picture below, the original wiper blade for Toyota Corolla has a “Hook” type of fastening. Take the new windshield wiper and open its plastic cover at a 90 degree angle, as shown below.
In the folded lid you can see a hole through which you need to insert a hook.
Now we insert the hook into the latch, as shown in the photo below.
And close the plastic lid until you hear a characteristic click. Closing allowed the windshield wiper to be secured.
It is worth noting that it is not necessary to change the entire brushes if their rubber bands have become unusable. It is enough just to change the rubber bands themselves. A rubber defect can be diagnosed by the water stains it leaves after moving across the glass. The worker should not leave marks.
Replacing the windshield wiper rubber
Let's look at the example of a replacement on the 150th body of 2010. To replace the rubber, you need to remove the wiper from the holder by opening its plastic tab.
It is important to know. In frameless wipers, it is impossible to replace the rubber band, and you will have to replace the entire wiper.
To carry out this operation you do not need any tool. The elastic bands are fixed with metal guides, shown by the red arrow in the photo below. We unclench the special staples, and then tighten the elastic band. We pass the new rubber through all the guides. Trim off the remaining excess elastic.
Removing and installing the windshield wiper trapezoid
If in the Corolla E150 replacing wipers and rubber bands was elementary, then with a trapezoid everything will be more complicated. The trapezoid is a mechanism by which the brushes are driven, that is, it is a kind of lever system. In the E150 body there are no problems with this mechanism, but in the E100 such breakdowns are common.
Symptoms of a faulty trapezoid:
- The windshield wiper has stopped handling water or snow.
- Noise during operation.
- Stains on the glass.
- Brush play
How to remove a trapeze? Let's look at removing this mechanism using the 2012 Corolla as an example. You can repair this element by purchasing a repair kit, or buy a completely new one.
The first step for repair or removal is to de-energize the system: disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. After this, you should remove the wiper arms.
To do this, the brushes must be in their original position, after which we begin removal. At the base of the levers there is a plastic protection, under which a 14 nut will be located.
The plastic can be removed by picking it up with a flat screwdriver, and the lever itself can be removed using a 14mm wrench.
Now you need to remove the air supply box:
- We remove the insulation.
- Behind the insulation it will be visible that the air flow is supported by pistons. If you press their middle with a screwdriver, they will unlock.
- Remove the box (it is necessary to remove the left and right parts separately).
The next step to repair the Toyota Corolla windshield wiper trapezoid is to disconnect the wiper drive motor chip, after which you need to unscrew the two bolts securing the trapezoid itself. By detaching the rear rubber holder, you can remove the trapeze from the car.
Intermittent wiper does not work
This manifests itself in long pauses or in the fact that the windshield wiper drive may turn off completely. The most common reason that the intermittent wiper mode does not work is the relay, which counts a certain time interval before turning on.
Over time, the contacts on this device begin to oxidize or burn, preventing current from passing through them. The solution to the problem is simple: cleaning the contacts of the relay, which is located in the mounting block of the car.
Before cleaning, you must turn off the power by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery.
Main types of windshield wipers
Equipment is usually divided into categories according to design features:
- metal frame assembled on pins ensuring the mobility of parts;
- with a plastic monolithic elastic casing, which allows you to remove the frame and increase protection from freezing;
- hybrid design, representing a mixture of solutions from frame and frameless wipers;
- with modifications on your own (for example, using electric heating).
Frame
The classic version, equipped with a metal base assembled from sections. Inside the rubber element there are steel spring plates that ensure uniform contact with the glass. To reduce noise and increase the clamping force, aerodynamic flaps are introduced into the design.
The disadvantage is that the brush freezes in winter with loss of mobility of the frame parts.
Frameless
The structure includes a rubber band with steel spring plates. The cleaning element is covered on top with an elastic casing with end caps and a tip for attaching to the leash. The product is little susceptible to icing, but the lack of a rigid frame leads to uneven contact between the rubber plate and the windshield.
Frameless wipers consist of a strip with steel spring plates.
Hybrid
The brush is equipped with a metal frame of sections connected by pins. An elastic casing is installed on top, ensuring the mobility of the elements and protecting the parts from freezing. The rubber strip contains metal spring plates; the set includes replaceable fasteners for installation on different car models.
A plastic cover can be installed on the casing to reduce aerodynamic noise and increase clamping force.
Heated
In the northern regions there are homemade structures with an electric heating system. To connect, you need to lay the power cables along the leads, which are connected to the on-board network and a separate button in the cabin. When the power is turned on, the current heats up a nichrome spiral laid along the rubber cleaning element. The disadvantages are the complexity of assembly and low service life, since the cables break at the bends when the wipers operate.
Toyota Corolla wipers: tips for selection and installation
Wipers for Toyota Corolla are made of high quality materials. Their form is perfect. The brush adheres well to the glass and cleans it perfectly. This is what contributes to maximum comfort and also makes road driving completely safe.
Windshield wiper manufacturing technologies
Cleaners are manufactured by well-known manufacturers. They are incredibly flexible, perfectly follow the shape of the windshield and efficiently remove all kinds of dirt and water.
It is also worth noting that Toyota Corolla wipers work stably and have a long service life. They are wind resistant. These qualities are important in those moments when the car is moving at maximum speed.
The working bodies of windshield wipers are made of two types of synthetic rubber. The part that is adjacent to the glass is made of hard rubber.
This allows for truly high-quality cleaning. For silent and smooth operation, the upper part must be made of soft material.
The combined material allows you to efficiently remove all dirt, while the load on the power unit is almost minimal.
Today, the latest materials and advanced technologies are being actively introduced. Manufacturers strive to use only materials of European standards and quality. This fact makes the product of the highest quality, and it can be used for a long time.
Silicone coated with Teflon is a modern material from which wipers are made. In this case, the size does not matter at all.
Cleaner brushes are specially designed for each model. In this case, specific operating conditions must be taken into account. It is important that this element fits as tightly as possible to the glass.
This will allow the wiper to work really well for a long time.
Toyota Corolla wipers perfectly clean the windshield and make virtually no noise during operation.

In the process of creating wipers, manufacturers must take into account the fact that high performance is required in any weather and speed. The size of the windshield wipers is also important, ensuring their stable operation.
Since the wiper blades of the Toyota Corolla are pressed evenly against the glass, they clean it well of various contaminants. As for the aerodynamic characteristics, they are incredibly high. Frameless type blades form less ice, but the wiper functions just fine.
Today there are many modifications of the Toyota Corolla. The length of the wiper blades varies significantly. In order not to make a mistake during installation, you need to clarify the size of wipers that is needed specifically for your car. To do this, you should consult with a specialist.
Main types of wipers for Toyota Corolla
There are several main types:
- Frame. There is a special frame made of metal or plastic with pressure points. A rubber scraper is attached to it.
- Frameless. It consists of three elements: a holder, an elastic band for cleaning, and a pressure plate. A solid metal rod presses the rubber tightly against the windshield. It is placed in the pressure plate inside. The size of the windshield wiper itself does not matter.
- Hybrid. Frame-type wipers with rubber or plastic linings that cover the frame. The brush wears out less and is practically not subject to corrosion.
Frameless wiper
Types of fastenings
To attach windshield wipers on all Corolla models, a 9x3 hook pattern is used. On the wiper body there is a counter part with a plastic lock that fits into the cavity of the hook and keeps the brush from spontaneously unfastening. The fastening mechanism is covered with a plastic cover on top (included in the lock and supplied with the windshield wiper). No other mounting schemes were used on the Corolla.
The wipers have a counter part with a plastic retainer.

Detailed instructions for DIY replacement
To perform the work you must:
- Approach from the side and carefully move the arm with the wiper away from the surface of the windshield.
- Lift the cover and turn the brush at a right angle to the guide, and then pull the wiper off the hook, overcoming the resistance of the latch. When removing, you must hold the leash with your hand, since the steel arm may break the windshield if it slips.
- Clean the mounting surface of any rust or road grime and install a new wiper blade (with hook adapter pre-installed). Make sure the latch engages and snap the lid into place.
- Remove the protective cover from the rubber strip and lower the arm with the installed windshield wiper into the working position.
- Repeat the procedure on the other side of the car and check the operation of the windshield wipers.
Rules of operation and care
During operation, dust and road reagents accumulate in the moving elements of the frame, which can limit the mobility of the elements. Contaminants are removed by pressure washing the car. Additional care (for example, treating rubber surfaces with special compounds) is not required, since the protective layer is washed off in 3-4 brushes.
Turning on the windshield wipers without supplying liquid to the glass leads to premature wear of the rubber plate. If the car was parked under a tree in the summer or autumn, then before driving you should remove the buds and leaves that have fallen under the wiper, which leave streaks on the glass when the cleaner operates. In winter, during parking, you can remove the leashes of the surface being cleaned, and use a heating system and a special scraper to remove ice from the glass.
